Your Jaguar key fob comes with an electronic chip that allows it to communicate with the Jaguar's system to unlock doors control the windows, open and close the sunroof and even remotely start your engine. The key fob has rubber seals that protect it from water damage. However, it's essential to remove it from the holder to clean any exposed electronic components with isopropyl, or electronic cleaner and a paper towel. Dealerships may also be able to cut these however, they typically cost a significant amount.
The lock itself is quite interesting, since it is made up of 6 or 8 rotary discs that must be aligned correctly in order for the sidebars to fall into position and open the door or trunk lock. This is accomplished using a special-looking pick/decoder tool that appears like a drill bit, and it can be a bit challenging. This tool is only to be used on the DOOR lock, not the ignition or trunk lock.
There are only a handful of locksmiths that are experts in Tibbe keys and their costs are based on many factors including time, effort, consumables, equipment, etc. The adapter kit needed to use these keys could cost hundreds of dollars. Each one must be programmed manually for each new key.
Key Fob Battery Replacement
It is essential to keep a spare battery on hand. If the key fob stops responding to buttons or ceases to respond to them, it's probably time to replace it. Your Message Center may also alert you that the battery is low.
The good news is that replacing the battery in your Jaguar key fob is easy and can be done in just a few minutes in your home garage. The first step is to pry the fob's door open with either a flat-headed screwdriver or your fingernail. There are usually 2 seams where the fob's halves meet, and you will be able to gently pull them apart to expose the emergency key blade.
Once the fob is open then you can slide the key blade backwards to take off the cover to reveal the old battery. It'll appear as a small coin with the battery's dimensions and a plus and minus signs embossed on one side. Be careful when inserting a brand new battery of the same type and make sure that it's properly oriented.
Make sure you only touch the battery from the sides. If you touch it from the top and bottom could cause moisture to be transferred which can reduce battery life. Reassemble the fob and test the remote's buttons to determine whether they're working. If not, contact your local Jaguar Annapolis service pros for assistance.
