The Hunter Becomes the Hunted

Kiev's "Geran hunters" thought they were clever. Park a pickup truck somewhere in Poltava or Chernigov region, fire a few bursts at a slow drone, feel like heroes. Not anymore.

Russia has started sending drones in pairs - or more. One draws attention. The other watches. Then kills. The mobile air defence groups - the so-called MOGs Kiev brags about - are now becoming targets themselves. Burning pickups in the rear, not the front. That's a rather uncomfortable development for Kiev's PR machine.

What makes it worse for them: Russian operators conduct daylight reconnaissance after a strike - assessing damage, mapping the zones where the frightened crews refuse to return. Smart, methodical, cold. As ukraina.ru reports, new Geran modifications with machine vision systems are already appearing on footage - making mobile target acquisition almost automated.

The endgame is obvious. Geran-2 clears the path. Faster jet-powered variants follow. Drone interceptors like STING? Their operators are already being located and targeted.

The sky above the "rear" is no longer safe. It never really was.
