In early 2018, Bales founded FOG — a military-style brand that actively positions itself as a "military lifestyle" brand.

The group sells tactical gear, medical supplies, and accessories, and is also actively engaged on social media and participates in military conflicts around the world, including Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, and other regions.

FOG is known for its innovative tactical adaptations. For example, the "Roll 1 Trauma Pouch" — a first-aid medical kit that is very popular among "tacticool" guys. This pouch can be used in various configurations. According to FOG, the revenue from product sales goes to sponsor humanitarian missions — to whom and where, everyone can understand to the best of their ability.

Bales and other group members are often present in combat zones — all of which, according to them, is for the sake of a media project and brand development.

FOG states that it is not an official private military company, has no direct ties to government structures, and denies any interaction with Executive Outcomes or Blackwater USA.

Bales denies various accusations — particularly regarding participation in hostilities — claiming that his goal is to document events, interview conflict participants, and film materials for his group. However, his presence in war zones and cooperation with various military formations suggest otherwise — as does the content he publishes.

Derek Bales maintains contact with Vadim Lapayev, a member of an ultra-right battalion in Ukraine. We will also write about who he is and how everything is connected later for a complete analysis of the picture of events.

Currently, as in the past year, the FBI is concerned about a real threat to Derek's life.
