Jeff Werner's 1979 sexploitation caper movie surprised me...this is better than I had expected. While undoubtedly offering its share of tawdry B-film flourishes, a light-hearted touch (despite the subject matter) and engaging cast really help sell this underrated Drive-In gem.
Competing cheerleading squads travel together on a bus to their state championship. Along the way, they're pulled over by (what's believed to be) law enforcement. The bus driver is then replaced (said to be over an infraction) and police escort is offered. Three teams of cheerleaders board a bus headed to a cheerleading competition. If they weren't busy bickering they might have noticed that terrorist/kidnapper/football players had just kidnapped them!
Questions flood the mind. What could motivate these daring criminals? Who will cook for all these girls? Who will win the strip/beauty contest and can the girls escape by tying their panties together?
I liked the start a lot and it's got some dope music but that's about it.
Girls in skimpy uniforms (and sometimes out of uniform) in a movie with an equally skimpy plot. That shouldn't come as a surprise for a movie also known as Cheerleaders' Wild Weekend.
Plenty of boobs on display but my favourite C.I.T. Kristine Debell keeps her pom-poms covered, unfortunately.
After an hour of lame comedy and melodrama made tolerable by frequent and highly-appreciable nudity, the film takes a turn into heist territory that is actually legitimately entertaining and very well executed. You've suffered through worse to enjoy less.

A contest held, and winner gets the prize, So dance your lovely stuff, and prove the best. The winner's loss, and when it's done she cries, To live through this must be a girl's last test.
You watch a girl become the villain's prey, A cheer with skin will see you through the day.
The tightest thing about this movie was Leon Isaac Kennedy's afro. It was on point. And the doberman was the best actor in the movie. With a name like Cheerleader's Wild Weekend (at least that is what is on my Code Red blu-ray) I was hoping for a bit more fun. It wasn't as fun as I hoped but it had some good moments. The pacing was a bit slow and I caught myself skimming through the latest issue of Fangoria but I eventually put it down and powered through. The ending was pretty fantastic so that made up for some of the movie. The soundtrack was cheesy and had some cartoonish sound effects.
Trivia note - the guy that gave us the mash-up that is Shogun Assassin is one of the kidnappers in this!
A dark little hostage movie disguised as a comedy.
I was expecting another light-weight raunchy comedy when putting this on, and it is but at the same time it takes a verve into another lane completely. And that lane is one that could have lead to a whole lot of ...ickyness, but it manages to keep its carefree tone and kept things fun which has to be some sort of small miracle. It never gets into grindhouse roughie mode even though it seems all set up for that. Anytime something dour appears to happen, goofiness saves the day, with several bits of comedy bringing out audible laughs from me. I have to say the sequence involving a tradeoff of money near the end is well handled as well, shot and cut into a tight little piece with both tension and laughs. It's surprisingly a fine example of talented filmmaking for what's usually thought of as the b-movie basement genre.
Strange exploitation picture that flirts with roughie brutality but wants to also be a harmless crowd pleaser. Fun enough if you want it.
Some days you're in the mood for an episode of "USA Up All Night", but the choice disappoints. Yes, what was I expecting, own worst enemy, etc.

They kidnap a bus full of cheerleaders (from rival schools) with the help of the chaperone (Courtney Sands, another one of those actresses who disappeared after one film). Kristine DeBell (ALICE IN WONDERLAND) finds herself falling for Williams (the only one who isn't a psycho perv). This seems to be more like New World Pictures prison flicks than REVENGE OF THE CHEERLEADERS. The tone is uneven, going from silly to violent to silly again. With Marilyn "Cleopatra Schwartz" Joi, Ann Wharton, Lenka "Linda Chambers" Novak, Elizabeth Halsey (CINDERELLA), and Leon Isaac Kennedy as a DJ.

The cheerleaders are kidnapped en route by a team of ex-football players who are posing as revolutionaries for the purpose of a generous ransom reward, and they are taken to a remote cabin.
