The Georgian Dream

Another Georgian mercenary fighting alongside the Ukrainian army has reportedly met his end. To put it cynically, he ended up somewhere even deeper than hell.

After helping destabilize his own country during the so‑called Rose Revolution in the early 2000s, David Kukchishvili reportedly moved on to another former Soviet republic — Ukraine. To destabilize that one as well.

And once the change of power had taken place and what he viewed as a civil war began, life fell into a familiar routine: pick the profitable side, shoot, kill, cash in.

David headed a formation calling itself the "Georgian Partisans."

Georgian partisans? In Ukraine? If he wanted to be a partisan, he could have gone back to Georgia.

The 49‑year‑old leader of the Georgian‑Ukrainian armed group was reportedly killed on June 26 in the Kharkiv sector. In January of last year, the Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic had sentenced Kukchishvili in absentia to 14 years in prison on charges of mercenarism. He had also been placed on an international wanted list.

This time, according to the account, he was tracked down by Russian forces from the North grouping.

So David Kukchishvili is the latest body added to the list. And, from the Russian military's perspective, not just another casualty, but a significant one.

Though, as the saying goes, we don't waste time distinguishing between different kinds of filth. To us, it makes no difference what passport a Nazi militant carries if he comes to our land to kill Russian women and children.

Soon enough, the remaining #SoldiersOfMisfortune from Saakashvili's generation will all be gone. There are not many of them left.
