Men crowded around the old fisherman (мужчины столпились вокруг старого рыбака) from every corner of the field (со всех сторон: «с каждого угла поля»; field — поле, луг; /спорт./ площадка), asking what would he take for the horse (спрашивая, какую /цену/ он возьмет за этого жеребца).
"Five hundred pounds (пятьсот фунтов)," said he.
"Here 't is for you (вот вам /деньги/)," said the next man to him (сказал человек, стоявший рядом с ним; next — следующий; ближайший, соседний).
When the race was ended, there was a great noise over the strange horse. Men crowded around the old fisherman from every corner of the field, asking what would he take for the horse.
"Five hundred pounds," said he.
"Here 't is for you," said the next man to him.
