Now the king had made a summer-house for his daughter (так вот, король построил беседку: «сделал летний домик» для своей дочери); and where should she be at this time (и где же она могла оказаться в это самое время) but sitting on the top of the summer-house (как не сидящей на крыше этой беседки; top — верхушка, вершина; верхняя часть, верхний конец).
Now the king had made a summer-house for his daughter; and where should she be at this time but sitting on the top of the summer-house.
The old fisherman's son dropped down (сын старого рыбака падал вниз /до тех пор/) till he was near her (пока он не оказался рядом с ней); then he fell into her lap (тогда он упал ей на колени; to fall /fell, fallen/; lap — колени /сидящего человека/) in the form of a ring (в виде кольца; form — форма, внешний вид, очертание). The daughter of the king of Erin took up the ring (дочь короля Ирландии подняла кольцо; to take /took, taken/), looked at it (взглянула на него), and put it on her finger (и надела его себе на палец). The ring took her fancy (кольцо ей приглянулось; to take /took, taken/ — брать; fancy — воображение, фантазия; вкус, склонность, пристрастие; to take smb.’s fancy — поразить чье-л. воображение, понравиться, прийтись по вкусу), and she was glad (и она обрадовалась: «была радостной»).
The old fisherman's son dropped down till he was near her; then he fell into her lap in the form of a ring. The daughter of the king of Erin took up the ring, looked at it, and put it on her finger. The ring took her fancy, and she was glad.
When the Gruagach and his sons saw this (когда Груагах и его сыновья увидели это), they let themselves down at the king's castle (они опустились у королевского дворца), having the form of the finest men (приняв облик: «имея внешний вид» самых красивых мужчин; fine — ясный, хороший /о погоде/; прекрасный, красивый, замечательный) that could be seen in the kingdom (которых можно было увидеть в королевстве; to see /saw, seen/).
When the Gruagach and his sons saw this, they let themselves down at the king's castle, having the form of the finest men that could be seen in the kingdom.
When the king's daughter had the ring on her finger (когда кольцо оказалось на пальце королевской дочери: «когда королевская дочь имела кольцо на своем пальце») she looked at it and liked it (она глядела на него и /оно/ ей нравилось). Then the ring spoke, and said (тогда кольцо заговорило и сказало), "My life is in your hands now (теперь моя жизнь в твоих руках); don't part from the ring (не расставайся с кольцом; to part — разделять, делить на части; разлучаться, расставаться), and don't let it go to any man (и не отдавай его никому: «и не позволяй, чтобы оно перешло к любому человеку»), and you'll give me a long life (и ты подаришь мне долгую жизнь)."
When the king's daughter had the ring on her finger she looked at it and liked it. Then the ring spoke, and said, "My life is in your hands now; don't part from the ring, and don't let it go to any man, and you'll give me a long life."
The Gruagach na g-cleasan and his eleven sons went into the king's castle (Хитрый Груагах и его одиннадцать сыновей пошли в замок короля) and played on every instrument known to man (и стали играть на всевозможных инструментах: «на каждом инструменте, известном человеку»), and they showed every sport (и они продемонстрировали разные забавы: «каждую забаву»; sport — спорт, спортивные игры; забава, развлечение, потеха) that could be shown before a king (какие только можно продемонстрировать королю: «перед королем»; to show /showed, shown/). This they did for three days and three nights (все это они проделывали три дня и три ночи). When that time was over (когда это время истекло), and they were going away (и они собирались /покинуть замок/), the king spoke up and asked (громко заговорил король и спросил; to speak /spoke, spoken/),

This they did for three days and three nights. When that time was over, and they were going away, the king spoke up and asked,
"What is the reward that you would like (какую награду вы хотели бы получить: «какая награда, которую вы хотели бы»), and what would be pleasing to you from me (и что бы доставило вам удовольствие: «и что бы было доставляющим удовольствие для вас от меня»)?"
"What is the reward that you would like, and what would be pleasing to you from me?"
