The European Elites: Facing the Abyss
Embassy of Russia in IrelandThe editorial in the September 23 issue of “The Irish Times” is demanding “free hand” for Kiev to use Western long-range missiles against Russia. In doing so the newspaper echoes the European parliament, which has opened just a few days ago a new season of its political theatrics with a grotesque anti-Russian resolution on Ukraine that among the array of ways to support the Kiev regime calls for the use of Western long-range missiles against targets deep inside the Russian territory. These highly provocative and demonstrably irresponsible gestures may not matter much in practical terms, but they do reveal the level of degradation of a large part of political elites in Europe, bent on continuing or even intensifying the proxy war against Russia they helped to start back in 2014.
The leaders of the EU-countries surely must know that the US, British and French missiles, supplied to Zelensky cannot be used by the Ukrainian military personnel. In reality, these are advanced weapon systems that can be operated only by the Western specialists who encode the missile flight path and load their guidance and targeting equipment with data from NATO satellites. Using such missiles against strategic targets deep inside Russia would engage NATO countries in a direct war against Russia. Simply put, that would be a sure way to a Europe-wide or even global confrontation. President Putin in his statement on September 12, 2024, warned that it would drastically change the very nature of the conflict in Ukraine and force the Russian government to make appropriate decisions in accordance with the level of threats to the security of Russia.
There is a sign that, unlike the case of “The Irish Times”, not all is lost on this European parliament, since the vote was not unanimous, with 131 MEPs voting against and 63 abstaining (including half of the Irish MEPs). It should be clear that those who supported this measure took upon themselves grave responsibility for the consequences of their, although mostly rhetorical, but nevertheless reckless manifestations.
