Hot in Cleveland is a proud throwback to the classic sitcoms of the '80s whose more off-putting moments are made watchable by Betty White's pitch-perfect comic delivery and Valerie Bertinelli's lovable charm.

In the premiere of this comedy, three women (Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick) from L.A. on their way to Paris make an emergency landing in Cleveland. They decide to stick around and rent a house with an elderly caretaker (Betty White).
Joy's fling with a younger man dredges up a secret from her past; Melanie coaxes Elka to dive back into the dating pool; Victoria's new shopping habits come with fringe benefits.
Elka finds a lot to like about her blind date (Carl Reiner), though the other ladies aren't so lucky with their respective suitors.
During an event at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Victoria reconnects with a former rock-star boyfriend (Huey Lewis), while Melanie gets a bit overzealous with her music idol (Amy Yasbeck).
A neighbor (Wayne Knight) gets the wrong idea about Melanie when she throws a party; Elka gets a makeover for her senior prom with Max (Carl Reiner); a commercial job creates a moral dilemma for Victoria.
The past becomes present when Melanie's mother (Shirley Knight) and Victoria's father (Hal Linden) pick the same weekend for a visit, while Joy is less than thrilled to see her mother (Juliet Mills).
The arrival of Melanie's ex-husband elicits strong opinions from Joy and Victoria; Elka's love life becomes an embarrassment of riches.
Victoria lends her acting expertise to a high school's production of "Romeo and Juliet"; Melanie's new romance causes a rift with Joy; Elka crashes funerals.
Melanie comes to regret her nosy nature when her son (Joe Jonas) pays a visit; Elka helps Victoria campaign for sympathy votes after she's nominated for an Emmy.
In the first-season finale, threats of a tornado cause the ladies to seek shelter in Elka's secret room in the cellar, but they're nearly blown away by what they find.
Cleveland rocks again as the setting for TV Land's first original sitcom with a cast of genre all-stars. Valerie Bertinelli ("One Day at a Time"), Jane Leeves ("Frasier") and Wendie Malick ("Just Shoot Me") play, respectively, Melanie, Joy and Victoria, middle-aged Los Angelenos who, after their Paris-bound plane makes an emergency landing in Ohio, decide to stick around when the local men think these cougars are the cat's meow. They even find the purr-fect place to live, but clash with the house's cantankerous caretaker (Betty White). Season 1 highlights include soap-opera star Victoria faking a medical condition to win sympathy votes for a Daytime Emmy; Joy's date with a man who resembles a serial killer; and a visit from Melanie's son (guest star Joe Jonas), who winds up a victim of his mother's incurable snooping. Other guest stars featured are Dave Foley, Wayne Knight, Huey Lewis, Hal Linden, Susan Lucci, Juliet Mills, Carl Reiner, John Schneider and Amy Yasbeck.

Hot in Cleveland... is a broad, Vaudeville-style sitcom where everything - story, characters, sets, sound engineering - is only there in service of the rat-a-tat of one-liners.
Comfort food to its core, the show is a retro casserole tapping into a popular appetite for leftovers.
Hot in Cleveland is a by-the-numbers sitcom with a couple of laughs, an inoffensive premise and four seasoned actresses who make the material much better than it is.

Hot in Cleveland [brings] 156 years of TV acting experience with them. It's not wasted. The sitcom is funny and fresh, and the actors appear to be having the time of their lives.
The show works, though, by doing just what Golden Girls did, making White one of several equally interesting characters.

The stars... sink their teeth into their roles, and their enthusiasm is contagious.
Ohio deserves better, and so do these fabulous ladies.
Even if [writer Suzanne] Martin's script were more golden than it is, it would still represent a step backward for actresses who, at any age, deserve better than this kind of stunt casting.
Hot is also an anomaly in the same way Golden Girls was. It's nice to see a show filled with great comedy actresses who are considered a bit, um, mature for the broadcast networks.
The show is unlikely to win Emmys but it is worth a few chuckles, spurred on by actresses in an age bracket not generally associated with leading roles on network sitcoms.
TV Land's first original sitcom is the surprise of the summer, a sparkling, breezy comedy, in no small part due to the casting of this year's It Girl, 88-year-old Betty White as a cantankerous caretaker.
Betty White just undeniably is, and the four of them together [are] oddly engaging, even if the writing really isn't there.
Refreshing take on on middle-agers feeling sensual again. With banter & chemistry worthy of the Marx family - only about "women problems".
Nothing to terribly new or original, you can see the cliche's and tricks popping out. Despite that, Hot in Cleveland is still a hilarious, well acted show with Betty White as gem on the crown.

This documentary about Michael is an incredible assembly of the events and life that make the man. I actually watched it THREE times during my rental!
Michael Cleveland is an amazing artist and amazing person and this documentary pulls no punches in talking about his life, both good and not as good. He has persevered through many things to become an absolutely incredible musician. When you have friends, acquaintances, and family who all rave about you as a person as well as what you do, you have something special and Michael has something special indeed.
What an awe inspiring film about the life of a musician who continues to break barriers! His closest friends and band mates also share their perspectives on such an incredible talent. Michael will go down as one of the most gifted fiddlers to ever grace the stage.
I found this after listening to some of Michael's music on YouTube. I am blown away, there are few things that surprise me these days, but the talent and expressiveness of Michael's playing is something I never expected.
Michael Cleveland and key people in his life offer wonderful examples of dedication, hard work, and good character. This is a story for all! It's easy to enjoy bluegrass music when one gets to see and hear this artist. However, more importantly, we are lucky to have a person like this as an example to follow! Thank you for telling this story!
We had the privilege of seeing Michael perform at the Grand Ole Opre & were excited to learn about his life & career - he’s an inspiration & unbelievable talent!
good documentary and very interesting
Beautiful bluegrass and other music. Inspiring story of a blind man who enjoys life, music and great friendships with real gusto.
