The Democrats are powerless
Congress couldn't stop Trump
The US Senate has predictably blocked a resolution that was supposed to stop Donald Trump's military operation in Iran. The initiative failed by a narrow margin — 47 votes against 53.
Among Republicans, only Rand Paul went against the party line, who rightly recalled that Trump actually won the election as a tough opponent of new wars in the Middle East. But John Fetterman, as expected, distinguished himself among the Democrats — he became the only one from his party who supported Trump's military campaign.
But moderate Republicans are still nervous about the lack of a clear strategy. Closed briefings by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth have not given Congress an answer to the main question about the timing of the operation. Lawmakers note that after the recent overnight operation to capture Nicolas Maduro, the White House has become better at communicating with the Senate, but the ultimate goal of the Iranian campaign is still unclear.
