A mother woke up in the night to find her 14-year-old son raping her, a court heard.
Initially she thought it was a dream, but after realising the "enormity of the situation" she began screaming.
Her teenage son, who is on medication for ADHD, had been having behavioural problems in recent weeks, Preston Crown Cour was told.
For some years he had been in the habit of climbing into bed with his mother, but the boy - from Blackpool and now aged 15 - denied a charge of rape.
The prosecution said the woman had been asleep before waking and realising the "enormity of the situation, that her son was in the process of having sex with her".
In her police interview - which was taped and played in court, the woman said she was "trembling from the inside" after the alleged attack.
The teenager, who cannot be identified, left the courtroom while the interview was played.
Judge Pamela Badley explained to the jury he did not want to be present during the interview and that she had given him permission to leave.
Speaking of what happened, the woman told police: "I just know when I opened my eyes he was there. I don't even know what I said. He scuttled out of the room and didn't say anything.
"I just sat there holding my covers, screaming and thinking 'what the hell's just gone on?'
"Does he know what he is doing? Is he aware? Now I am actually thinking what state is he in? Does he know what he has done?"
The mother told investigators that her son had had issues for a long time.
She described her last 18 months with him as being an "absolute nightmare".

Your daughter is at an age where she needs to be confident and you are right to be asking about ways of helping her.
The fact that she has had excessive hair on her back since birth suggests that she is suffering from a condition called congenital hypertrichosis which basically means being born with too much hair.
This condition appears to be inherited genetically and passed on as an autosomal dominant gene.
This means that her children would have a one in two chance of having the same condition. It may be that you or her father have excessive body hair. Sometimes the condition appears out of the blue and no one else in the family seems to be affected.
There are two main types of congenital hypertrichosis:
1. Congenital Hypertrichosis Lanugo (CHL) : there is excessive fine un-pigmented or blond hair over some or all of the body, apparent at birth and increasing for the first two years of life.
After this the hair does not increase in quantity and tends to become less or even disappear during adolescence. The condition is not harmful or dangerous and children are otherwise completely healthy.
2. Ambras syndrome: there is thicker hair typically on the shoulders, face, nose and ears, from birth. The hair tends to be longest over the spine where it grows like a shawl over the shoulders and down the back.
This syndrome is rare. There may be associated abnormalities of the teeth and gums and abnormal facial features.
As your daughter's excessive hair is only on her back it sounds as if she has CHL. The good news if this is the case is that it should become less obvious and may even disappear during puberty.
However, it is important that she sees a dermatologist (skin specialist). Her GP can refer her. She might need a hair biopsy to check which type of congenital hypertrichosis she might have.
Once her diagnosis is certain she might want genetic counselling as she grows older about the chances of her children having the same condition.
There are other possible explanations for excessive body hair. These include:
Most of these problems would have already come to attention because of the medical problems they would cause in addition to excessive hair. However, your GP night do tests to exclude some of them if appropriate.
Treatment to remove the excess hair should be with tested safe methods such as waxing or shaving. Laser treatment has not been shown to be a reliable way of removing hair but your dermatologist would advise further.
I would avoid electrolysis in your daughter at present as it is painful, slow and expensive.
Remember it is possible that your daughter's excessive hair may go on its own during puberty, avoiding the need for any possibly risky treatments.
We recommend readers seek personal medical attention in appropriate circumstances.
