Upgrades to an item are a way to boost the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Item Level
When an item gets upgraded, its basic stats improve in value. The value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and is visible on all tooltips for items. It is also used as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and scenarios, and raids, as well as to limit the amount of PvP gear players can wear (since PvP is limited to an lower level). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding to purchase or sell gear players can evaluate the level of an item. It's a good gauge of an item's worth and how much damage it will be capable of causing. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done using the item's level.

Item Stats
The stats of an item can be the difference between a good or bad item for players. The game uses a lot of them in various ways to encourage players to play with multiple weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The stats of a base weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications, which are themselves boosted by the player's level.
The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats on the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded one time, while an item with rare tiers may be upgraded multiple times with higher prices.

All affixes are re-rolled at the moment by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other rerolling methods.
In addition to Rerolling affixes and rerolls, players can select which stats to keep on an item when it is upgraded. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the level of the item, however every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it's a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility of upgrading equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to boost. Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player boosts the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it doesn't directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. item upgrading gives players the chance to upgrade equipment earlier in the game. This is more useful in the early game, because players tend to put weapon scaling and defenses above raw damage gains.
Luck can also increase the chances of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. item upgrade should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance which increases with each level and can be further increased by using an anti-material, such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. item upgrader can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item, up to 140.
Additionally, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items are available in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the success rate of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it is not successful.
The success rate of an upgrade is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage is the probability of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special materials. There are limitations to the extent to which success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing can't be greater than 100%..
The success of an can be affected by the luck of that item. Each item has an average success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5percent.
The upgrade overlays of the item are displayed above items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
