They also feature a feature called carpet boost that increases the robot's power when it detects the presence of dirt on the carpet, allowing it cleaned up quickly.
Both the Q5 as well as the Q7 Max Series get very good scores in our tests on floors that are bare and are particularly effective in removing pet hair. However, they do have some flaws that prevent them from being our top choice. For instance, the Q5's navigation system does not have AI-powered obstacle avoidance which means it's susceptible to get caught up in shoes and socks, and is unable to navigate tight spaces very well in our tests. Also, it doesn't have an image sensor that lets it see the corners of a room.

It also has self-emptying dustbins with powerful suction and support for virtual boundaries. It's the best robot hoover for carpets, however it falls behind some competitors when it comes to deep cleaning.
This top-performing mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it will learn the layout of your home over time for more efficient cleaning. This is a feature we haven't seen in other robotic vacuum/mop combinations.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
With a sleek circular design that looks like a regular Roomba rather than the compact models this robot vacuum and mop combo is among the most attractive looking models in our reviews. The latest flagship model from iRobot is also the most intelligent. It features advanced features, like Enhanced Dirt Detection and future compatibility (another company’s robot that can wash mop pads in a self-cleaning manner).
It's the only robotic mop or vacuum to score 100% in our evaluations, thanks to a combination of high-tech sensors that include cameras, a structured light system, and multiple lasers. The X40 Ultra was the only robot we tested that could refill and empty its basestation in a self-contained manner. It also boasted an industry-leading suction of 12,000Pa as well as self-cleaning mop mops.
The X40 is, like the other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has an intuitive mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. It has a multifunction dock which automatically emptys the vacuum's bin and refills the water tank, and washes and dries mop pads.
The smart robot uses LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floorplans and identify obstacles. It navigates more intelligently than its competitors with premium features. It also has a camera mounted on the front to detect hazards in real-time but this was not 100% foolproof during our tests and was often confused by power cords or other obstructions.
Its vacuum has a high maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals, which is more than enough to get the job done. It also has "Intelligent Dirt Detection", which regulates how hard the vac works and alters the frequency of cleaning for different areas of the home in accordance with how dirty they are.
If you own a larger home, it's worth choosing a model that has zones or spot cleaning modes. This allows you to tell the robot which area of your house needs to be cleaned using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you have a large furniture. Also, a recharge and resume function that lets your robot vacuum take over exactly where it left off is ideal for busy families.
5. iRobot Roomba RX3
The RX3 is more intelligent than the price suggests. It is a good vacuum cleaner, picking up 55% debris in our tests. (It was only second to the Roomba Q5 Pro). It also mopses with a single pad that uses an oscillating motion that cleans better than most of the other robot mop cleaners we've examined. It's also extremely self-sufficient, with a fully-featured application, and a self emptying, washable base.
The iRobot application is designed to guide you through an exercise in mapping which collects information about your floorplan as well as any "no go" areas that you've marked on the map. You can use it to create cleaning schedules, arrange a spot clean or to prioritize your most filthy rooms to improve performance. The app also provides access to a host of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom maps and advanced settings for your cleaning.
