Upgrades increase the value of certain numeric stats on weapons, armor and rings. Upgrades also boost bonuses like Crit chance and damage from PvE.
If the template for upgrading a weapon is %, it will increase an additional 3% of the previous damage every time it's upgraded.
The cost for upgrading items increases when they reach the item's current level. The cost increases with the item's level.
Components
Upgrade components can be added to weapons, armor and trinkets to provide them with a boost in stats or an extra effect. They can be acquired through crafting, buying from vendors trading or looting. Some upgrades also have special cosmetic effects.
Upgrade components can be inserted into any equipment that has a slot for them; the item must be at a minimum upgraded to blue level to allow a component to be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods can only be applied only once. They cannot be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are kind of upgrade component us ed to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascending equipment, as other items that are not ascended. Infusions and enrichments can be recovered by salvaging gear that is ascended or by completing an elite mission in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.
A prefix or suffix may be added to an upgrade, changing the name of the item it is used on (for example 'Canthan Armor Insignia,' becomes Canthan Armor Minor Vigor). Some upgrades boost an item's Mark Level, or Rarity, allowing players to create stronger versions of that equipment that require fewer Upgrade Crystals than is required to achieve the same level of upgrade using normal methods.
A boost upgrade can modify the attack or defense characteristics of a weapon or armor. Once the player has completed the cutscene and defeated Crazed Mechanist These upgrades can be created at the Portative Forging Station. These upgrades are available for purchase them in the cash shop, or by collecting them from enemies when upgrading other gear.
The player is able to have up to five boost upgrades at one time; each upgrade increases the likelihood that a higher-level version of the item will drop at the time of the next reset. This gives the player an incentive to continue upgrading their gear even if they're uncertain of how much they'll increase after a future reset.
Whether a boost upgrade is successful or not, the process could be expensive, and there is a significant risk that the item may become obsolete or even break if it fails. A unsuccessful upgrade could cause the destruction of the Upgrade Crystals and Assist Powder, as well as the upgraded item. Cash shop items can be used to decrease or eliminate the risk of failure. Some upgrades also give the player a bonus if they are reinserted.
Glyphs
Glyphs are upgrade elements that can be placed in special sockets on the Paragon Board. Glyphs boost the power of nodes within a radius, and include any pre-existing affixes. Glyphs can be upgraded a variety of ways, and we suggest upgrading them to 15 levels whenever you can.
In the endgame you'll find that the best way to improve your gear is by placing Glyphs. They are the only upgrade component that can be upgraded straight to level 15 and provide an enormous boost to your power and radius on the Paragon Board, enabling you to climb higher nodes much faster.
The majority of upgrades in the game can be replaced, however, Glyphs are only the one upgrade component that can be removed and re-placed without restrictions. The only exception is legendary equipment, which requires the use of a Black Lion Salvage Kit to salvage and re-place.
The value of each Glyph is displayed when you select it in your inventory. You can replace it with a different Glyph of the same rank or higher rank, which will boost the value of the Glyph.
You can find Glyphs in the Black Lion Trading Post, as part of a Gem Store purchase or bundle with certain gathering tools that are unlimited-use as well as through Faction Crypt raids. Each Faction Crypt could drop one of these Glyphs. There are some rare glyphs that you can find in any of the Faction Crypts.
Once you have the desired Glyphs, you will need to place them on your gear. Each Glyph unlocks a unique bonus that will boost the stats of a particular set of nodes within a radius around the Glyph. It could be +40 for one of your primary stats, or +25 for two of your secondary stats depending on the Glyph.
The use of a Glyph will boost all nodes connected to it, and you should aim to place your Glyphs near key nodes on the Graph to maximise the impact. Druids, for instance, should place their Glyphs close to their primary damage nodes. They may be able to place them near their critical damage nodes.
Leveling
The upgrade system for items allows players to improve the performance of specific items by putting upgraded components into them. This is commonly known as "upping". Each upgradeable item has an amount that determines its final upgraded stats. Upgraded items are able to be leveled until they reach a maximum level of 385 ilvl. Each level of item requires various components, and the cost of upgrading increase with each level.
Certain upgrades require an ingredient to be activated. This ingredient is obtained by the completion of Upgrade Recipes. These recipes can be purchased from NPCs or on the upgrade tab of crafting tables. Each completed Upgrade Recipe earns a number of Technology Points. These points can be used to upgrade the item. Once enough are earned, the upgrade will be claimed and the additional bonuses will be added to the item.
When a player upgrades an item to a higher level, the original item is replaced with a different item of the same kind. The same armor will be upgraded to an weapon or shield when upgraded. The new item will have its own set bonus. This could be a disadvantage, as the item can increase in price even if you do not require it.
The upgrades to items can be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens to do this. This will cause the item to be exchanged for a new one, with the level 1 base, and a completely different set of bonuses. This is a good idea however it should not be used frequently as it can be a waste of resources.
Certain upgrades can be rerolled many times which increases their value and giving players the ability to alter their gear. A good example of this is Dolphin's Gift, which gives an advantage when a player repeatedly enters and exits water (or swims like dolphins). The item can be upgraded several times and increases the maximum roll every time by 10 increments. This item is extremely valuable in PvP as a perfectly rolled version of it can be worth between 20 and 50 times its non-upp'd value.
Requirements
The item upgrader lets players increase the level of their equipment (armor weapons, armor trinkets, and armor) above ilvl 385 by providing the appropriate currency to the NPC. Upgrades to armor set pieces also boost the defense of the base set, while upgrades to weapon items increase the damage they deal as well as their strength and dexterity.
All items can be upgraded up to five times, with the exception of hero gear which can have eight upgrades. Each each time you upgrade an item it is given the chance to fail. The rate of failure increases as you exceed the maximum amount of upgrades. Failures can cause the item to revert back to its original state, requiring the player to spend more money on materials than they would have to had they stopped upgrading at the highest number of upgrades.
If an item does not upgrade the amount of experience in its growth bar is reset to zero. The item also loses any bonuses it gained, such as the chance to crit attack damage, additional effects (such as a higher healing rate over time or reloading speed). The player can continue to use their weapon or armor after the failure.
When an item is upgraded, the upgrades are applied from the lowest to the highest. This means that the weapon that is upgraded receives a crit chance boost it will be applied before any damage from attacks increases. A new attribute called Slots has been added to the item definition and the value is computed each time an upgrade is applied.
The amount of resources needed to upgrade an item are dependent on its rarity score and the number of upgrade slots. The cost of upgrading equipment that is not premium is equal to its value. For instance, a common item might have five upgrades at a cost. 25,600 Technology Points and 4x Quality Improvement Chance--whereas hero grade items will have a much lower cost for each upgrade.
Premium items might require different upgrades than normal equipment. For example they may require less sowels, however they may require more minerals and orons. The player will still need to carry every piece of equipment they want to upgrade to the NPC [Armor] Boboko located in Central Flarine. In addition to the upgrade costs listed above, each equipment upgrade will require an individual amount of ingredients needed to upgrade.
