The 10 Worst Item Upgrader Failures Of All Time Could Have Been Prevented
World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type it can raise an item's Mark level or Rarity, as well as boost other stats.
Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests and each item has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a certain amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's stats base increases when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrading items can be expensive depending on the upgrader and the type of upgrade you choose to perform. This is due to how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to get upgraded.
Item level is a widely used measure of power, and can be found on all item tooltips. It is also used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). The average level of an item can be found on the character sheet.
Using the item level will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it is able to deal. Comparing items in the inventory of a vendor can be done using the level of the item.
The item level can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its level. It can also be located by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor and typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are various theories about how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory is that the level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different perks are valued differently, and that gems in the sockets boost the value of the item. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, since the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level situations will have a higher value.
Item Stats
The stats of an item are a major component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to not limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate players to experiment with other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are enhanced by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn boosted by the player's level.

The upgrades to items add by increasing certain stats of the item. The cost of upgrades is determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare tiers will be upgraded several times, at higher costs.
Another method of altering the stats on an item is through affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. Affixes are used to give items additional damage or special abilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs) or to make them unique by naming them.
Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount in gold and other items. item upgrader can be used as upgrade gauges similar to other methods of rerolling.
Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will have at least one stat within that range unless they are a unique item or a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to increase. Like the base equipment, this must be done per item, and the item comparison interface would not display all the possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the probability of obtaining items and the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. However, it does not directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves and is thus more useful in early game runs than later ones because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade chance, which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Armor, shields and weapons come with an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of an item up to 140.
Certain items, like the weapon with Hollow-infused components, can also be equipped to increase the damage of any ability that deals damage by five percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items can be costly and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their item if it does not work.
When you upgrade an item, the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of successfully upgrading that item, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to the extent to which the success rates can be improved, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..
The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. Every item has a success rate of 25 percent and every item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the inventory items therefore enchantment glints and other effects can be obscured by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
