An art-oriented, gin-focused bar pops up on the fringes of Chinatown.
Soi Nana, on the fringes of Chinatown, has been happening for some time thanks to the likes of Tep Bar , 23 Bar & Gallery , El Chiringuito and more. This new opening might be the coolest of the lot. Having popped up at the last Jumble Trail event in the area a couple of months back, Teens of Thailand has now officially opened its doors.
Located right next to Nahim Cafe x Handcraft , the bar hides behind an ominous Indian-style door. Inside is a small, dimly-lit room like something Wong Kar Wai might conjure up. Much of the shop-house's original architecture remains, with vintage Thai furniture scattered around the place, encouraging interaction moreso than sticking to your seat.
The team behind Teens of Thailand features a who's who of the local art and nightlife scene, including the co-founder of Ari drinking gem Barka and mixologist Niks Anuman-Rajadhon (owner of Drink Academy), with a little help from Note Dudesweet, veteran photographer Kachain Wonglamthong, and the late Sqweez Animal guitarist Singha Musikapong.
Expect to see Kachain’s racy photographs hanging from the bare cement walls, as well as exhibitions and upcoming events from Note--plus, of course, a well-curated playlist. The real highlight lies behind the bar, where Niks stocks his vast collection of gin, from Hendrick’s and Tanqueray to Ashley Sutton’s Iron Balls and the must-try Hanami gin (the house pour). In fact, the place is positioning itself as a gin bar (with only a solitary bottle of rum), with customers encouraged to sidle up to the bar and discuss their tastes before making an order.
Niks changes his drink list every day (check the board). On our last visit, he mixed us a Ramos Gin Fizz, a smoothie-like mix of rose water, citrus cream and egg white shaken till vey foamy and topped with soda (B350). The Mr. Cop-Peler (B320) offers a bitter combination of gin, sherry, fresh orange and Campari. Singha is also available in small bottles (B150).

The Thai Education Ministry is telling teenage female students to dress “appropriately” and stop wearing dresses that are too skimpy.
The Ministry has made amendments to the Child Protection Act to codify the length of dresses and the tightness of blouses, rather than leaving it up to school boards to come up with their own guidelines (you can imagine those evening meetings held in stuffy school board rooms with mostly male academics deep in discussion).
The amendment appears to only target female students who famously, or infamously, flout the dress codes with their short skirts and undersized blouses.
The revision, signed by newly appointed Education Minister Nataphol Teepsuwan, says the changes in the laws will improve the behaviour and safety of students. Meanwhile male students have been spared any specific guidelines regarding the way they wear their uniforms.
The amendments also prohibit students from joining gangs that “disturb the peace” or cause a “public commotion” inside or outside school.
Parents or guardians of a student who breaks the new regulations are liable to fines of up to 30,000 baht and/or three months in jail.
Female Thai students have been testing school and university dress-codes for decades with the many Thai soap operas set in schools, and popular with young Thai people, often sexualising female cast members by dressing them in very short and tight skirts and tight-fit blouses. The Thai ‘schoolgirl’ is also a popular ‘theme’ in locally produced porn.
Thai school uniform standards attract attention around the world with even the Japanese, also known for pushing the boundaries of skirt length, acknowledging that Thailand takes the sexualising of school uniforms to the next level.
Universities in Thailand continue to rank far behind in world academically but they are “No. 1” in the sexiest female university uniform stakes according to a number of surveys.
Whilst conservative social standards abound in Thailand, outwardly, Thai officialdom has always tolerated pushing the boundaries of female sexuality by turning a blind eye to the bar-girl culture and, yes, the enforcement of student dress codes.

Researchers say Thai women have some of the smallest breasts in the world

A cross section of men from across the globe will never leave Thailand because they are in love with a Thai woman — but it’s probably not because of her breast size. A recent study said they have some of the smallest breasts in the world.
Thai women ranked 101st, out of 108 countries in the study. This means that they have some of the smallest breasts in the world, according to research published in The Journal of Female Health Sciences.
The research measured the natural breast size of about 340,000 women, between the ages of 28 and 30-years-old, from around the world. It revealed that there is considerable variation in the breast tissue volume of women, depending on their country of birth.
For Thailand, the researchers found that the average cup size is even smaller than a standard ‘A’ cup, based on the measurements of 11,849 Thai women.
“The smallest average breast volumes [belong to] women born in Africa and Asia, particularly in the East Asian countries. The cup size ‘A,’ or even smaller, was found to be the average cup size in many of the countries in these regions,” the research said.
Globally, Caucasian women born in the U.S. have the largest breasts in the world, with an average size that is larger than an ‘F,’ while the Philippines, the country that dominates world beauty pageants, was surprisingly ranked at 108 and so, according to the research, Filipinas have the the smallest breasts in the world (of the countries included in the study).
To add insult to injury, the researchers felt it necessary to mention that most of the women in Asian countries have “flat” breast shapes.
