Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start German 1) Exam Schedule

The official list below only shows reserved time periods, not confirmed exams. Check with your instructor whether or not your course will be taking its final exam within this time.

Be sure to read the Goethe exam terms and conditions and guidelines on each exam's webpage prior to you register. Register for the correct level of the exam.

Locations

The Exam Schedule lists locations where DEP conducts operator certification exams. Exam pages for each exam are available for additional guidelines, terms and conditions and exam information. If you need special accommodations due to chronic illness, hearing or visual impairment or other limitations, contact the exam provider and provide the information when you register.

The Faculty Dashboard in Workday includes an option to "View My Teaching Schedule" which lets faculty discover their exam schedules. The Registrar's Office also has a schedule of exam times for courses that are required to take an exam as per NYSED regulations. For evening classes exams, they are scheduled at the regular class time during the week of exams.

Registration

Students are encouraged to consult the exam schedule online. However, it is important to note that the exam schedule can change at any time. For this reason, students should consult with their instructors to make sure they have the correct date and time for their test. Students should also print the official list to take to their exam.

Students must also familiarize themselves with the rules and conditions of the exam in addition to the schedule. These are on the page for each exam. When they register, students agree that they agree to these terms and conditions.

Exam sites make every effort to accommodate participants who have special needs. The nature and severity of these needs should be declared on the registration and confirmed by a medical attestation. The locations of the exam must respect and maintain confidentiality.

If a student is scheduled to take three examinations scheduled on the same day, it is recommended that they contact their instructor or department to arrange an alternate exam. It is possible to have three examinations on the same day. However, this can result in a lot of stress and can affect the quality. The instructor may not be able give an additional test to make up for the missed day.

Before taking the test students must prepare by reviewing their course material and practicing their German skills. The test is a test on paper that measures the ability to read, speak and write in German. The results of the test are presented using a scale ranging from A1 to C2. Students who pass the test are awarded an Goethe-Zertifikat. The certificate confirms that the student has attained the level of A1 in their language. This level corresponds to the first stage of the six-level scale of competence laid down in the Common European Framework of Reference for Foreign Languages. The examination is free of cost. Students must carry an official government ID to the test. Those who do not have an ID with a valid photo are disqualified from the examination.
