As well as breaking down the search habits of each individual country, Pornhub's Year in Review also lists the website's most popular fictional characters.
The annual roundup is based on data compiled by the adult website's own statisticians and researchers. It contains insights about things like the differences between Gen Z and boomers' porn consumption and if any U.S. states have unusual sex kinks.
However, one area that might be of particular interest is the section dedicated to fictional people. Here, the website has assembled separate lists of the most commonly searched characters from movies, TV shows and cartoons, as well as video games.
It's worth noting that this data is just based on the number of searches in 2021, rather than on individual video hits. As such, it can be difficult to ascertain what type of videos are most popular (whether they are animated or involve an element of cosplay). In some cases, the chart just lists the name of the show or movie, meaning that you can't always tell if there is a specific character that people are looking for.
Nevertheless, it's still a fascinating subject to explore. Here are all of the insights from the Pornhub Year in Review 2021.
When it comes to movie characters, superheroes dominated the list. Wonder Woman, Black Widow, Spider-Man, Catwoman, Batgirl, Joker, Deadpool and Captain Marvel all place somewhere in the top 20, with Harley Quinn taking the number 1 spot.
In general, the searches are mostly related to well-established properties (Harley Quinn has regularly topped previous years' lists) and don't feel innately rooted in "2021." That is with the exception of Free Guy and Ghostbusters , which just had a new sequel , but those are sitting right at the bottom of the pile anyway.
There are also a few animated films here, such as The Incredibles and Hotel Transylvania.
While Squid Game emerged as the most searched TV show of the year on Google , it wasn't quite as big on Pornhub.
In fact, the Netflix Original only managed to land the thirteenth spot here, lagging behind things like Rick and Morty , Teen Titans , Family Guy, Scooby Doo and even SpongeBob SquarePants .
Generally speaking, this list is very heavy on cartoons, with Game of Thrones being the highest placed live-action show (and that came in twelfth).
As for the top spot, that went to The Simpsons , although this is just a generic search term, so it's impossible to know if it's for a specific character.
Finally, when it comes to video game characters there is representation from a bunch of different franchises.
Claire Redfield, Jill Valentine and Ada Wong from Resident Evil are all on the list ( but Lady Dimitrescu is surprisingly absent ) and Nintendo IPs are quite prominent as well. Mario, Princess Peach, Link and an assortment of Pokémon are in the top 20, while Bowsette (a gender-swapped version of Bowser) returns after being the most searched character of 2018 , although she has been knocked down a few places this year.
Another fascinating inclusion is Abby from The Last of Us Part II , as she is a character who has been at the center of a lot of controversy , especially in relation to how she looks. In particular, some have criticized the character for having an "unrealistic body type" and of not being "feminine" enough, due to her large muscles. So it's interesting to see that she has been searched a lot on Pornhub.
As for the top spot, that went to Lara Croft, who is another staple of these annual lists.

If the headline sounds out of this world, well, it sort of is: There’s a sexual fetish that involves giving “birth” to alien eggs, either vaginally or via one’s anal cavity. It’s thanks to a new sex toy called the Ovipositor , which essentially is a long penis-shaped tool that injects gelatin alien eggs into one’s body cavities, and according to a recent piece on Vice , “Fans of the Ovipositor say that the sensation of mushy extraterrestrial ovum slopping back out of them is a real treat.”
Vice profiled the product and it’s inventor , a man who goes by the name “LoneWolf,” who was once “a builder, fast-food dude, fashion model, church organist, butcher, and veterinary student at the University of New Hampshire before deciding: I want to make enormous egg-laying alien dicks.” LoneWolf claims that “tons of people” want the Ovipositors, and that he knew the product would sell because “there are three things that will always sell: Food, death, and sex.”
There’s of course the health question: Is injecting these gelatin eggs in your cavities safe? According to LoneWolf:
“Everything in moderation. We are not doctors, and we’re not about to comment on what is safe or unsafe to do to one’s body as it varies from person to person. I can say that I have used them many times without hurting myself, but frankly it is up to the person using it to know their own limits. For instance, if you are allergic to gelatin. If made properly, the eggs are firm, but rubbery, similar to the consistency of gummy bears. They dissolve with body heat rather quickly.”
However, one reader left a comment about the anal use of the eggs, saying, “If you use these in the backdoor, they go in as eggs and come out as gooey melted gelatin diarrhea. So I guess you have to like the idea of being impregnated with alien eggs as well as liking sitting on the toilet for hours as gooey melted diarrhea runs from your bum. Hey, whatever rolls your stockings up and down.” Also, on the Ovipositor website, it clearly states, “This item is sold as a novelty only. We’re not responsible for how you choose to use it.”
So why would someone want to try this? LoneWolf sums it up when he says, “There are different perspectives of everything, and Ovipositors are no exception. Many like to envision an alien creature that wants its eggs inside you. It can be a little intimidating or off-putting to those who do not fantasize about being the willing or unwilling host of alien beings inside them. It blurs the line of our own humanity to find sexual pleasure with something that is so far from human, and for some, just talking about it gets them wet.”
The cost? A basic Ovipositor, called the “Krubera,” starts at $109.99 , and it does not come with eggs: You have to make them on your own, and, eh, to be frank, it looks like quite a process:
