What the app does

You answer a few plain questions about your racket and the way you play. A band on a fixed 40–62 pound scale narrows as you answer, and when there is enough to settle, it lands on a number: the exact pounds for the up-and-down and the side-to-side strings, strings that fit named exactly with their thickness, one sentence to say at the counter, and why each number came out that way.

Common questions

"I don't know" — is that allowed?

Yes, on every question. The app keeps it as unknown, says what it still does not know, and widens the band rather than guessing quietly.

Does it need the internet?

No. Answers are computed on your iPhone from data built into the app. Only two optional things use a connection: the shop link (version 1.0 opens a retailer page; from 1.1 it opens a web search for the string, in Safari) and, from 1.1, iCloud sync if you have iCloud turned on.

What does it cost?

Free to download, first settled answer free, then one payment for unlimited answers forever. Not a subscription, no credits, nothing to renew.

I paid on another iPhone / I reinstalled the app. Settings → Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple Account you bought with.

The price will not load on the unlock screen. Check your connection and tap Retry. You can keep consulting meanwhile; the narrowing band is free.

My racket is not in the list. Type what is printed on the frame. If the app still cannot find it, it says so and asks how the racket feels to hit instead, then answers from that. Send the name and year to the email above and it goes into the next catalog update.

Where do the numbers come from?

Manufacturer product pages. Settings → Sources lists them with the date they were read.

Will my answers appear on my other iPhone?

From version 1.1, yes — if iCloud is on for your Apple Account, your rackets, answers and records are also kept in your own private iCloud database and appear on your other devices. Only you can read it; we run no server for it. Version 1.0 keeps everything on the iPhone you entered it on.

Is my data private?

Nothing is collected. What you enter stays on your devices — and, from version 1.1 with iCloud on, in your own private iCloud, which we cannot read. There is no account, and nothing is uploaded to us. Full policy: https://telegra.ph/Tennis-Stringbed--Privacy-Policy-09-18

One more thing

This is about your strings, not about your health. If pain keeps up after a softer setup, see a doctor.
