Ten Things You Need To Be Educated About Upvc Replacement Door Handles

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

As time passes, the handles on your doors will get worn out and require replacement. It is crucial to match the dimensions of the handles that were previously used when replacing them.

The three measurements to check are the top screw's location as well as the key hole and lever sizes. Use the size guide to aid you.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever/lever door handle is a modern handle that can be put in on new or replacement doors. This style door handle is available in a variety of styles & finishes. A number of manufacturers make this type of handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The handles made of uPVC/Composite are made from robust materials, and are ideal for doors with multiple points that require a robust design. The handles are inline, and use the same screws and spindle to fix them. They can be easily mounted on any uPVC/Composite doors.

The handle can be positioned and angled to suit all users. The handle has been endurance tested to 200,000 cycles. This will ensure the quality of the finish and the performance of the handle over time. The lever that springs is adjustable to fit a broad range of locks. This is particularly useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is situated further back in the door. A lever that is shorter can be used for doors with a latch which can be operated with the thumb on the inside.

Lever Pad

A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc functions differently than lever handles on doors. These handle types can either use a single spindle (inline) or independently from each side using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are usually used on UPVC double glazed doors. They come in many variations & finishes.

The handles have been tested to a minimum of 200,000 cycles and are available in various finishes including White Silver, Chrome, & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and resistant to corrosion. This provides the handle with the best performance and long-lasting durability for its intended purpose.

All of the UPVC lever pad designs are supplied with the spindle and screws, allowing them to be fitted on an existing or new uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm allow for a bigger handle, which is typically an advantage when replacing an old or faulty multi-point door lock mechanism. The handle levers come with springs, which can solve the issue of handles for doors that slide out of horizontal position when they are not being used.

When selecting the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is crucial to match the dimensions of the PZ of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement may also be called 'handle centres or cylinder centres'. It is important to match the correct handles.

After you have identified the correct PZ size, you will need to make sure that the push and lever pads are designed to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles that you need for your door. They typically have rectangular or round in shape with an internal lever and external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they return to their horizontal position when not in use, rather than hanging out and possibly securing in the frame. This helps prevent the draughts and cold air from entering a home. The majority of UPVC lever pad handles come in both left and right handed versions which allows them to be installed on either side of doors.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. They work with a key to unlock a cylinder that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with those in the lock body and allow them to rotate the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins with both internal and external doors usually needing different levels of security.

The choice of cylinder is essential. It's dependent on the amount of use your doors and handles receive. For instance, doors that are external must be secured with a more secure cylinder whilst internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that increase security, such as anti-drill or anti bump properties.

To ensure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it should be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place however, in the event that this is not possible, you may take it off to measure. It is important to ensure that there is no cylinder that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.

Most modern cylinders are designed with bump and anti-drill features built into their design. They are designed to decrease the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in the opposite direction. This will help to prevent attacks and keep your doors safe.

Certain cylinders are constructed to withstand snapping. This is a growing method of attack on cylinders where the break line inside the lock is targeted with a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to open. This is a lot faster and easier to achieve than gaining access through multipoint locks and leaves little evidence of a break-in which can impede an insurance claim.
