All of the UPVC lever pad designs are supplied with the spindle and screws, allowing them to be fitted on an existing or new uPVC door. The backplate fixation centres of 211mm allow for a bigger handle, which is typically an advantage when replacing an old or faulty multi-point door lock mechanism. Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. They work with a key to unlock a cylinder that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned with those in the lock body and allow them to rotate the cam, thereby opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins with both internal and external doors usually needing different levels of security.
The choice of cylinder is essential. It's dependent on the amount of use your doors and handles receive. For instance, doors that are external must be secured with a more secure cylinder whilst internal doors can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Certain cylinders come with extra features that increase security, such as anti-drill or anti bump properties.
To ensure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it should be measured accurately. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder and the thumb turn if you have one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place however, in the event that this is not possible, you may take it off to measure. It is important to ensure that there is no cylinder that extends beyond the handle or escutcheon. This could make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.
Most modern cylinders are designed with bump and anti-drill features built into their design. They are designed to decrease the chances of an attack by forcing the cylinder rotate in the opposite direction. This will help to prevent attacks and keep your doors safe.
Certain cylinders are constructed to withstand snapping. This is a growing method of attack on cylinders where the break line inside the lock is targeted with a special tool to break off the front of the cylinder and allow the door to open.
