Telegram iOS Beta Testing - Group rules and report instructions

André

WARNING

If you have access to bugs.telegram.org, please do not add bugs, which were already reported in this group during the beta testing process. That group is monitored and unfixed issues will be added centrally after the AppStore version is released.

You could find the group (@tgiostests) locked. It happens because

  • the App Store and the TestFlight build is the same, or
  • the App Store is a build number higher than the TestFlight one

In both cases, please, report any issue in the regular support: app settings > "Ask a question", or use the platform bugs.telegram.org to report issues.

SECTIONS LIST

  1. How to report bugs 🐞
  2. How to report video call issues 🎥
  3. How to get audio/video call logs ⚙️
  4. How to get iOS crash logs
  5. How to become a beta tester ⚠️
  6. Group rules ⛔️

Please make it easy for Telegram Developers to fix the issues, by making good bug reports. Remember that only beta issues are accepted. Why is that? Read HERE!

1. How to report bugs

  1. Always be clear with the steps to reproduce (STR) or at least a detailed explanation of the issue, so someone else can check/reproduce the issue. Add any media (Video/pic/GIF) to the report, to make it clear, if your report scenario allows it. Sending just media of the issue is NOT ENOUGH.
  2. Use the hashtag, so your report can be easily traced.
    - #bug, or #issue or #report is a mandatory, to report a bug/issue.
    - #visual for something related more to UI (user interface) than logic or feature mechanism
    - #videocall for something where the video calls are involved into.
You can use more than one hashtag per report.
  3. Declare the involved app version with a build number (example: 6.1.2 xxxxx). You can find this by rapidly tapping 10 times on the settings icon and scrolling down. Please avoid using ‘latest version’ or ‘previous version’, as it makes it hard to track the report.
  4. "jailbroken" devices are not really welcome, please strictly avoid to test on them.
  5. Specify your device model.

THESE ARE NECESSARY INFO FOR EVERY SINGLE REPORT YOU DO.

2. How to report video call issues

Reports about video calls need a bit more info: we need the details mentioned in point 3 and 5 of the the previous section, but for both sides (devices) of the call. Please use the #videocall tag for reports about this topic.

Reports about the quality of a video call will need call logs for both sides too.

3. How to get audio/video call logs

Please read this article: https://telegra.ph/How-to-get-call-logs-08-21-2

Example scenario:
Account A has two paired devices/sessions, X and Y. Account B has two paired devices/sessions, Z and T.
If A calls B from X, and B accepts the call from Z, the logs will be collected only on X and Z.

4. How to get iOS crash logs

If an issue triggers an app crash, we need the crash log from iOS settings.

First of all, you need to activate “Share iPhone analytics”option in iOS Settings > Privacy > Analytics and Improvements. In this way, iOS can collect crash logs.

To send a collected log, go to: iOS Settings > Privacy > Analytics and Improvements > Analytics Data > filename: “Telegram-yyyy-mm-dd-*"

In such case, please always attach the .ips log file, to the report you do.

5. How to become a beta tester

  1. Download TestFlight app on you iOS/iPadOS device from here;
  2. click here to enrol yourself into the beta program. The link should be routed directly via TestFlight app.
Note:
If it says that the beta is full. You'll not be able to access. There is a limited amount of places available in the beta program. You have to wait for someone to leave it, before you can join @tgslots channel can notify you when that happens.
If you realise that you have been removed from the beta program, sorry, but it can happen. From time to time developers remove some people from the beta program, so new people can also try it out. You can re-enrol yourself if there is still a slot.

6. Group rules

  1. Please use only English in the group at all times, so everyone can understand you.
  2. Report only issues from the beta version of the app. Please DO NOT report any issue that affects the stable release too. For stable release issue, Telegram offers you a dedicated platform, reachable here: https://bugs.telegram.org/ - Be sure to start reading from this card: https://bugs.telegram.org/c/746
  3. Bug reports about the stable version of the app and ANY suggestions should be sent to Volunteer Support in Settings > "Ask a question". And/or reaching suggestions platform.
  4. Do not report issues from debug features, unless it has been stated otherwise. Those features are out of scope of our testing.
  5. Messages not related to bug reports from the beta version of the app will be deleted. If you want to have a general discussion about the iOS app use @TelegramiOSTalk.

In case of an "emergency" for spam or anything really wrong just send @admin and all the admins here will be notified.
