AT ANY given second, there are thought to be 28,000 people watching internet porn around the world. That makes the stars’ salaries particularly surprising.
AT ANY given second, there are thought to be 28,000 people watching internet porn around the world.
It’s a multibillion-dollar industry, and while its top stars have the potential to rake in hundreds of thousands of dollars a year, many new performers could be paid as little as $390 per movie, The Sun reports.
And those behind the scenes aren’t paid nearly as well as their Hollywood counterparts, despite the industry’s multi-billion pound price tag.
That’s according to founder of LA Direct Models, Derek Hay, a man who represents many top adult performers and used to work as an actor himself.
He told The Independent a female actress could expect to earn $1300 for a scene with a man, and $895 for a scene with another woman.
This pay could go up or down by 10-20 per cent depending on who the actor is and whether they are well known, he added.
However, jobs in the porn industry are not as lucrative as people might expect, even for performers at the top of their game.
“I don’t think that adult stars make as much money as the general public perceives them to make,” Mr Hay said.
“I don’t think there’s anybody, even the biggest stars, who are making more than half a million a year. But if some of the top stars are making £240,000 to £320,000 [$390,000-$520,000] per year, by most people’s perception that would still be a lot of money I think.”
Mr Hay said it was a “universally known” fact that women are paid “a lot more” than men — but blokes get the opportunity to do more jobs. Actors also earn premium rates as an incentive to perform scenes they haven’t done before.
America’s CNBC did their own research — and delved into the earning of everyone involved in the making of adult movies, from those in front of the camera to the production assistant and the writers. Here’s what they found:
• Female actor in straight scene: $390 — $1950
• Female actor in scene with another woman: $910 — $1570
• Production assistant: $130 — $330

In a tragic case, a 16-year-old girl was drugged and sexually assaulted in the northeastern Bangledesh city of Sylhet. The girl was allegedly “lured into believing she would shoot TikTok and Likee videos,” per Dhaka Tribune .
The assault adds yet another tragic case in Bangladesh, where sexual violence against women has become an epidemic of massive proportions.
The survivor’s father filed a complaint against TikTok and Likee content creators Juber Ahmed Fanny and a woman named only as “Liza,” with Shahporan police in Sylhet.
According to Tribune ‘s review of the complaint, the teenager was connected to a video-sharing community feature on TikTok and Likee, a Singapore-based app. Allegedly, “Liza” offered to take the victim to a shoot in the scenic Jaflong area with Fanny on May 19. The two coerced the victim to another house where the 16-year-old was allegedly drugged and sexually assaulted.
The luring of young girls via social media into human trafficking and sexual assault has plagued Bangladeshi culture. According to the Daily Star , “a transnational gang involving some Bangladeshis is behind trafficking young girls using Tiktok and forcing them into prostitution in India.” The gang appears to target vulnerable members of specific social media groups and traffick them into India with the false prospects of well-paying jobs.
“School, college students, and sometimes young housewives are their targets,” Md Shahidullah, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Tejgaon Division), told the Star .
He also says the women are sexually assaulted and then recorded or photographed for extortion purposes.
It's great to see these articles from the @guardian and @BBCWorld covering the recent legal change in #Bangladesh following protests against sexual violence but they are inaccurate. Bangladesh has had the death penalty for rape FOR NEARLY 20 YEARS. @guardianworld @BBCWorld
A CBS News story from October 2020 reported that Bangladesh would certify approval for the death penalty in cases of rape. However, many detractors “don’t consider it a real solution to country’s sexual violence problem,” per the report.
Bangladesh govt will impose death penalty for rape. Very easy solution! You won't educate people that women r not objects of rape, that women r not inferior beings or slaves & men r not masters. You'll keep patriarchal structure of male domination. Death penalty won't stop rape.
“The government strategically chose a road that would let them escape accountability,” Umama Zillur, a member of the Feminists Across Generations alliance, who has been battling gender-based violence in Bangladesh, told CBS News. “We will not accept this.”
