Dads and male adults who act as father figures should communicate with teens about their expectations and rules surrounding sexual behavior. And though it may be hard as teens become more independent, keeping a close, positive relationship helps keep adolescent children healthy.
This research can inform health education programs for teens, which rarely focus on the role of fathers [18]. Expanding research on father-teen talks about sex and teens' sexual health can help to guide programs that use an understanding of father-teen communication to inform best practices for prevention and intervention.

Your expectations for your teen about relationships and sex. Ways to prevent HIV, STIs, and pregnancy—abstinence, condoms and contraception, and HIV/STI testing.
Researchers found that fathers see talking with teens about sex as part of their role, but it's not an easy task. Of the fathers interviewed for the study, 74% reported talking with their teens about dating, sex, and relationships, and 90% would be open to a program that helps them talk with their teens about these topics.
