Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is one of the worst games of the year.

A bland, rather boring game that belongs to the bargain bin or, at best, to the Xbox LIVE Arcade library.

So, there you have it, yet another TMNT experience that can’t break the curse of being a bad game.

TMNT is sloppy, unresponsive and it looks shocking. [Issue#106, p.86]

It's so similar to Spongebob, Nickelodeon must have a template for offensively awful games. [Christmas 2013, p.107]

Well another turtles game, to be honest I wasn't disappointed, ok its not the best turtles game ever but its one to have in the collection. I Well another turtles game, to be honest I wasn't disappointed, ok its not the best turtles game ever but its one to have in the collection. I thought the graphics were nice and gameplay was good, I cant understand why people don't like this game, its suppose to be fun and not serious, like I said before its not the best turtles game ever made if u want that answer it would prob have to be turtles in time on the snes, or the remake was pretty cool. I would def buy this game if your thinking about it, but just wait for it to come down in price a little. … Expand

What a sack of sh;t game. The only reason it’s worth playing is for the easy gamerscore. The only reason my review isn’t a zero is because of What a sack of sh;t game. The only reason it’s worth playing is for the easy gamerscore. The only reason my review isn’t a zero is because of the fact that you can get all achievements (1000g) in like 5 hours so you don’t have to suffer for very long but within that short period you suffer SO much! In fact, looking at the games graphics gave me a headache, and I can play 12+ hours with no headache smh. … Expand

My 4 year old son absolutely loves the Ninja Turtles. His favorite is the newest Nickelodeon series. I've watched all of them to date with My 4 year old son absolutely loves the Ninja Turtles. His favorite is the newest Nickelodeon series. I've watched all of them to date with him, and as someone who used to be a fan of the original 80s show when I was young, actually really enjoy the new series as well. The box for this game looked ok, so I decided to pick it up without looking up the Metacritic store. Big mistake.

I took the game home, dusted off my 360, and we popped this in. He was excited that it was a 2 player game and I could play with him. I was a big fan of TMNT 2 on the NES, TMNT in the arcade, and Turtles in Time on the SNES. All of those games are mindless button mashers, but they're all fun because the controls are solid, and they all take place in the Turtles universe. I figured this game would be like those... It's kinda hard to screw up a beat-em-up, right? Wrong.

First off, the audio in this game is absolutely awful. I was excited when I heard the title screen music, as it actually seemed pretty good, had a decent amount of bass, and the sound quality as fairly high. That excitement quickly faded when we got in to the actual game. The characters themselves have quite a few voice-overs, and whoever recorded these doesn't seem to know what audio leveling is. Some of the voice overs are sampled way too high. VU meters WAY past the red. They are loud and distort and generally sound awful. Some of the characters' voiceovers are a lot loader than others, even in the same storyboard/conversation. The whole thing comes off as an extremely lazy rush job.

When the characters are talking, there's a psudo Japanese RPG style about it, where a large 3D model of a character will appear on screen and do the actual "talking," while sub-captions are shown on the bottom of the screen. The 3D models are emotionless and the lip syncing is horrible. It almost looks as if the facial movements were recorded for an entirely different language and then just thrown in unchanged. Sometimes it looks like they're just opening and closing their mouths, as if a hand is jammed up their back and someone is using them as a puppet.

This seems like a minor complaint, but it's really painful to watch. So much so that the programmers decided it would probably be a good idea to add a comic book style icon of each character next to the sub caption that would more accurately convey their emotion. Since the 3D turtle models are int he new Nickelodeon style, and the smaller 2D character icons are in the old comic book style, all of the storyboards and spoken dialog in the game just look like a confusing mishmash of fail. Add to that, don't forget, varying audio levels for each sentence the entire time, that swing between "normal" levels and a harshly clipped and awful sounding 40dB increase whenever the game feels like it.

All of that and we haven't even gotten to the gameplay yet. Don't worry, it's just as bad.

The control mechanic isn't that bad on paper. Analog stick moves, there's a button for jump, a button for attack, and the D pad switches between Turtles (which actually works really well, until...). All 4 Turtles are on screen at once, even if only two people are playing, so you are constantly having to babysit the CPU controlled Turtles so they don't get killed. They don't seem to know when to get out of the way when enemies are about to unleash a powerful attack, which is REALLY obvious since they emanate a red aura and you're usually given a solid few seconds to move before taking damage. As a result, they're always taking damage, and you are constantly having to focus on taking out enemies that are attacking them, and/or switching to them when a pizza power-up appears on the screen in order to boost their health. The AI is terrible.

The feedback received when hitting an enemy or being hit by an enemy is nonexistent. Sometimes I think I'm doing really well, as it looks like I'm being several enemies without taking any damage, only to look up after the battle is over and be at half-health. I'm not sure if this is due to the poor animation, but it seems like you are able to be attacked while attacking, and the animation displayed doesn't necessarily indicate that you are taking damage.

There have been several times where we get "stuck" in a corner of the screen, can't advance the screen, can't move, can't jump, and can't switch Turtles, and therefore have to quit and restart the entire level. Add to that the fact that the camera doesn't zoom out far enough when 2 people are playing, and it's easy for one character to hold up the other, and power-ups that are slightly off screen disappear. You can see them, but the screen won't advance so you can pick them up. The fundamentals of beat-em-up scrolling and camera work are totally broken in this game.

Since I'm approaching the 5000 char limit, I'll have to cut this review a bit short. In summary, don't bother with this game. It's garbage … Expand
