The storyline and designs in this game are based on the IDW "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle" comics.
I thought I'd quickly get bored of TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan, given that so many reviewers panned this game upon release. However, I loved Platinum Games' Transformers: Devastation and figured this game was worth checking out, especially since my used copy was only $15. The combat--while offering nothing new--is solid. It's a fun 3D beat 'em up that captures the spirit of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and I'd rather play this game again than replay the vintage side-scrollers or Playstation 2 games that tackled the Turtles license. I know this is heresy for those who nostalgically adore the SNES and Genesis titles, but modern games are more fun for me. I'm not into enemy pattern memorization and throwing away hundreds of hours into a game that isn't a life-changing masterpiece (ie: Mass Effect 2). The combat uses standard light and heavy attack combos. The fun really comes into play when you engage special attacks, that ninjutsu magic, Man! Some strategy is required when timing special attacks to beat the bosses. Speaking of...The boss fights are fantastic, and probably my favorite part of the game. It's essential that the Turtles work together as a team in order to prevail, something Mutants in Manhattan definitely gets right. I've never felt more like I was playing as TMNT. Go teamwork. The voice acting is excellent, and the writing nails the turtles' personalities. Not so great...
There's way too many items, and most are not worth choosing to carry over pizza /health refills. The game lacks variety with only 4 playable characters that all play relatively the same. Devs shoulda allowed us to play as Splinter, Casey Jones, or even baddies. Would love to play as Shredder or that shark dude! The RPG elements were not implemented well. By the time I got some of the cooler special attacks, the game was almost over, and it's not great enough to warrant a second play-through right away. Story is pretty whatever. Wanted to see more Splinter and April. ---
Overall I certainly enjoyed my time with Mutants in Manhattan and I will play the PS4 version as well. That would be wonderful if I could import my PS3 save file but I doubt that'll be possible. Oh well. If you're considering buying TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan, do not wait much longer as prices for physical copies have gone up considerably in just the last year, as the option to grab the digital dowload was revoked. Negotiating licensing for popular IPs must be a b*tch. Remember those awesome Marvel Ultimate Alliance games? Yeah good luck seeing remasters on the PS5 now that Disney owns everything I once loved. And now you can't download Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan. Buy it now!

Look, just think of this game as a TMNT arcade brawler from the 90s, updated for the year...2013? It is not technically pretty, there's not too much that's extremely innovative, and it is short. However, if you like beat-em-ups, this game delivers, if you're playing with friends. A lot of people complain about local co-op, and I can understand that, but as it is, I'm the only one in my house who plays games, so I enjoy playing cooperatively online with friends. We have had some connection issues and problems starting up the game, but once we get going, it's really fun! I can't speak to the AI, because I've only played it with people, but the cooperative moves are cool, and while the gameplay is somewhat repetitive, that's how these brawlers work. You fight peons to advance the stage to get to the boss, then you beat the hell out of it. I'm not sure what else you want. The whole cast is here - Rocksteady, Bebop, Krang, Shredder, etc.. The bosses are huge and they will deliver a beatdown if you are not careful. The fights in between bosses are basically filler, but exploring the city is sometimes fun, sometimes a chore. There are a ton of skills from which to choose, with a few specific to each turtle, and some fun cooperative attacks. There are upgrades to these, but the upgrades only seem to decrease your cooldown and nothing else. Still, that means doing more moves more often; can't complain too much. I can understand why you wouldn't like this game if you're playing by yourself. However, if you have some online friends to play with, the game is a blast for arcade brawler fans. Maybe not worth $50, but I'd say it's worth the Prime $40.

When this title was first announced everyone on youtube who does a gaming channel swallowed the kool-aid super fast Thought it would be the "Best" TMNT game ever So off base this is a lazy cash-grab for every child of the 1980's If you think this will be a solid follow-up sequel to the TMNT Arcade game Think again The original arcade game and Turtles in Time are head and shoulders better then this This is just pandering to my generation trying to con every child of the 1980's/1990's that yes you too can relive your child hood with Mutants in Manhattan Any parents that want your kids to have a much better introduction to the TMNT get the Ubi Soft TMNT game (from 2007) it's on almost every past console That runs circles around this Graphics: Are the only thing good about this game It looks good a mixture of the 1980's Mirage black and white comic and the new cartoon series (I'm guessing) It's super impressive but, graphics and art style can go so far You need much more Audio/Voice over (The music is terrible and cheap) the dialogue is recycled again and again It's best to play this game with sound "off" until you get to a cut scene or boss fight all 4 turtles sound passable for a video game, April and Splinter are average Bebop and Rocksteady actually stand out and sound close to the original 80's cartoon Controls: average it's a hack and slash/beat 'em up the camera is wonky They added cheap gimmicky grinding (Done 10x's better in Jet Set Radio and Sunset Overdrive) even for a 3D hack and slash it feels "Off" Story: If there is a story buried in this mess i missed it It's super manic from the opening everything is happening around the city and it's overwhelming If i was a kid and tried to play this my head would explode Overall this is another wasted opportunity to do something special It gives me a number of "flash backs" Some people tend to romanticize the 8bit/16bit era being a kid at Target, or Toys R Us looking at the Glass case full of so many games I thought were going to be awesome and later turned out to be garbage There were plenty of "bad" games Friday the 13th, Rambo, Predator and the Back to the Future NES games come to mind TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan are one of those games It could've been epic and a real love letter to the fans But, we get this 5/10 Wait until it gets the proper $15.00 price drop then buy it

As a child of the 80's, the TMNT were a big part of my life whether in toys, video games, cartoons, etc.., so this game appeared to be a natural connection when it was announced last year. The general consensus of this game from the professional reviewers is one that is extremely poor, rushed and every other negative connotation one can think of. Those reviews are really what prompted me to chime in. Regardless how I ended up feeling about this game, the low price made it a hard proposition to refuse but I am pleased to say I feel the reviews were opposite of my reaction. Mutants In Manhattan has gotten a bad rap. Platinum did a great deal of fan service with this game and although it does suffer from flaws, it provided me the most important thing I look for in a game: Fun. The immersion into the story/settings/characters feels like you are playing in an interactive comic and takes me back to the days of coming home from school watching the Turtles fight the Foot Clan on the tube. You will find plenty of familiar faces, mannerisms, collectibles, phrases, music, etc.., all which overshadow and minimize the relatively short length of the game, frame rate, the repetition and the low difficulty. Naturally though, the higher difficulties and collectible hunting will offer plenty of length and replay value. Speaking of replay value, it is similar to Transformers Devastation in that one can complete the game on a moderate difficulty quickly but you will come back to find all of the goodies and to explore all four turtles and maybe even play online.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan Review
Repetitive combat ruins this bowl of turtle soup.
Even with a super-short running time, the repetitiveness that pervades Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan makes this fight a slog. I've heard all the jokes the team has to tell and have marveled enough at the rogues gallery of bosses – both of which I could’ve done by watching this game on YouTube rather than playing it – so I'm not planning another trip to Manhattan.
Short, bland, and repetitive, TMNT: Mutants in Manhattan isn't worth playing for its few good gags.
