I thought Sophie was just drawing these but the way the characters were talking I thought it really sounded like the way she writes (sensitivity and depth) and went back and rechecked the title page and she did! It's such an interesting premise. I love the other mutants. The fact that there are now many women in turtle comics. Totally sticking with this series. (review of 102 and 103 as read them together).

A graduate of the Savannah College of Art & Design, Campbell began her career writing and drawing independent comics primarily focused on the lives of young women from all walks of life, including Wet Moon, Shadoweyes , and the Abandoned . She further proved her versatility as an artist when she began drawing the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for IDW, where her kinetic action sequences and distinctive character art were a hit with fans and critics alike. Campbell was brought on as the first artist on the IDW continuing series Jem and the Holograms , where she was responsible for the modern redesign of the characters and establishing the unique look of the comic. Her work on Jem with writer Kelly Thompson was so well received that the two were profiled by the New Yorker in 2015. Campbell continues to work on several projects for IDW, as well as her own creator-owned independent comics.

As the Turtles struggle to come together in the face of recent setbacks, Old Hob's unusual new enforcers make their presence known. Will they be friend or foe?

Since issue 100, weve been on such a roller coaster of emotions. We (the readers) find ourselves looking within our own selves and asking how would we deal with this in our lives. What about Old Hob, is he right? Is he wrong? Instead of just moving-on from such a tragic event in the turtles lives, Sophie Campbell has decided we need to not just move-on but look into their souls and try to see a little bit of ourselves. TMNT #103 is another good issue, but I think it really makes an argument as to why the mini-series and series like TMNT: Universe are necessary. I feel like too much focus has been taken off our main characters. The story of Jennika and Mutant Town feels like it would fit better in her own mini-series coming up, or as a TMNT: Universe story. It would let this main series focus more on the characters we have been following all along, and also make me care more about Jennika and Mutant Town. Read Full Review

In the other pages of the issue, the plot continue to follows the turtles. The disappearance of Michelangelo allows for some bonding between two of the brothers while Donatello seeks some comfort in an old friend by visiting April. Raphael is his usual churlish self, although Jennika does get a couple of good licks in calling out the turtle, and his brothers, for recent behavior. These continue to be strong character-driven moments while the story unfolds outside of the turtles' vision. What will, finally, bring them back? Worth a look. Read Full Review

TMNT #103 us another solid issue that pushes the story forward. There are some really strong emotional scenes throughout the issue that deconstruct our heroes. It's gonna be great to see how Sophie Campbell builds them up again.

My favorite scenes involve Raph and Jennika arguing. Jenny accuses Raph and the rest of the guys of being crybabies and allowing things to fall apart. Raph responds by saying that Jenny isn't really a member of their family and can f*ck off. I feel that both sides are out of line here but Raph's response is way overboard. I think this may be a meta-commentary on the way Jenny has been received by the titles more vocal detractors.

We check in with the rest of our leads and the throughline is t hat they are all processing grief at their own pace. I like the story because it's all very relatable once you get past the more fantastical elements.

I still get calls from my sister because she still copes with the loss of our mother and that happened in 2014. I miss my mom to but the triggers for emotional breaks are different. Hee has difficulties with dates and anniversaries. I struggle with scenes involving parent and child interactions in movies or songs.

There isn't a ton of action in this issue but the script is solid and the cliffhanger promises major change with Mutant Town and the Mutanimals. I'm starting to feel like Leonardo is being somewhat neglected in this story but I'm sure he will step up eventually.

No real gripes with the book. It's a beautiful book in a string of comics that you should be reading.
