Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie is a 2022 American animated superhero film based on characters from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird . A continuation of the animated television series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , it was produced by Nickelodeon Movies with animation by Flying Bark Productions , Top Draw Animation, Digitoonz Media and Cartoon Conrad Productions. The film is directed by series developers Ant Ward and Andy Suriano, and stars the voices of Ben Schwartz , Omar Miller , Brandon Mychal Smith , Josh Brener , Haley Joel Osment , Kat Graham , and Eric Bauza . The film's plot follows Leonardo as he is forced to lead his brothers to save the world from the Krang .

It was released on August 5, 2022 by Netflix . The film received positive reviews from critics.

In the year 2044, the alien Krang has invaded the Earth and the resistance has fallen. In one final attempt, Leonardo and Michelangelo now as Masters with the rest of their family having died in the war, send their student Casey Jones back in time to stop the invasion by finding a key that allowed the Krang to come to the Earth, though it costs Leo and Mikey their lives to do so.

Casey successfully reaches the present day, two years after the defeat of the Shredder. After Leo breaks Donatello 's pizza box stack record, Raphael alerts both of them and Mikey of a theft unfolding by Hypno-Potamus and Warren Stone, with the key that Casey is looking for is included with the stolen items. The Turtles manage to stop them, but the Foot ninjas arrive and claim the key. Back in the new lair, Raph and Leo get into an argument due to the latter's growing ego.

Meanwhile, Casey finds April O'Neil who knocks him out and takes him to the Turtles' lair. He then explains his mission and after mentioning the Krang, Splinter explains that they came to Earth long ago and were exiled to another realm by a band of warriors who created and used the key, which is a mystic weapon, and that they are worshiped by the Foot. The Turtles, along with April, Splinter and Casey, go after the Foot, who have managed to open the portal. Their fight against the Krang causes them to lose their mystic powers, forcing them to retreat, but Leo manages to seize the key and close the portal. To protect Leo, Raph forces him to escape while he is captured.

Afterwards, the remaining Turtles, along with Casey, go after the Krang and Raph while Splinter and April remain behind to get rid of the key. The Krang manage to find the Turtles' lair through Raph, they then parasitically possess the members of the Foot clan and sends them after the key while they prepare the portal on top of the Metro Tower, the tallest building in the city.

The Turtles and Casey are ambushed in the sub-way tunnels and get separated. Casey calls out Leo for his arrogance before they reunite with the rest of the Turtles. They then find Raph, who has been possessed by the Krang and seizes the key, the Krang then uses the key to open the portal and bring forth the Technodrome. The Krang began their attack upon New York City and easily defeat the U.S. Army .

While April, Splinter, and Casey occupy the Krang forces, the Turtles board the ship. Leo goes after Raph, while Donnie and Mikey try to seize control of the ship. They are captured, but Leo reaches out to Raph and helps him break free, and the brothers manage to regain their mystic powers. The four fight valiantly but the Krang are too strong with Mikey, Donnie and Raph thrown out of the ship during the battle. Leo forces the Krang back to their prison realm and orders Casey to close the portal, which results in the Technodrome getting cut in half from the closure and destroyed. Leo is trapped in the realm, but Mikey, Raph, and Donnie save him using Mikey's newly-developed mystic powers, leaving the Krang alone in the prison realm, preventing the future of earth being destroyed.

Sometime later, the heroes enjoy pizza on top of the Brooklyn Bridge, with Casey revealing that former Foot Clan recruit Cassandra Jones is his mother. They watch the city as it is being rebuilt and make a vow to defend it when it is needed. Afterwards, Raph tries to break Leo's pizza box stack record.

On February 5, 2019, it was announced that feature films based on Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Loud House were in production for Netflix . [2] The film was in development since October 2018, though production didn't begin until March 2020; Nickelodeon first approached showrunners Andy Suriano and Ant Ward to develop a film during development of season 2. [3] [4] On January 12, 2021, the former films' plot synopsis was revealed on the franchise's official Twitter account, alongside with the original release year. [5] On August 27, 2021, the film was pushed back to 2022 due to it not being completed in time. [6] The producers worked on the film simultaneosly with the series' second season. Due to the season being shortened by Nickelodeon , the writers had to adjust the film's plot to align it with changes made for the second season's story, though the directors did noted some details would not align with the series. [3] Production on the film was finally completed on April 7, 2022. [7]

The film features a rift between Leonardo and Raphael as a plot point. A traditional aspect of TMNT lore, the filmmakers wanted to potray their rivalry in a "unique way". While writing the Krang as villains, Suriano and Ward aimed for them to be "formidable adversaries to the turtles" and establish them as more dangerous foes than the series' potrayal of the Shredder . In order to enphasize the threat represented by the Krang, the characters' designs were altered from previous potrayals, such as altering their size proportions. [4]

Animation services were provided by Flying Bark Productions and Top Draw. [3] Due to the increased budget, the animators were allowed to feature more fluidity and color in the film than in the series. [8]

The first trailer for the film was released on July 6, 2022. [9] A sneak preview was released on August 3, 2022.

Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie was released on Netflix on August 5, 2022. [10]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes , 77% of 13 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 6.2/10. [11] On Metacritic , the film has a weighted average score of 61 out of 100, based on reviews from 5 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews". [12] After the films release, many hashtags started trending online regarding the film and the show. Many hashtags would have fans asking for the series return after its abrupt pause in 2020.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge is a beat 'em up game developed by Tribute Games and published by Dotemu , based on characters from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comic books by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird . It is inspired by and based on the 1987 Turtles animated series and borrows stylistically from the arcade and home console games developed by Konami during the 1980s and 1990s. The game was released for Windows , Linux , Nintendo Switch , PlayStation 4 , and Xbox One on June 16, 2022.

The Turtles voice actors from the 1987 series reprise their roles. Music was composed by Tee Lopes, with contributions from guitarist Jonny Atma, rapper Mega Ran , singer Mike Patton , and Ghostface Killah and Raekwon of the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan . Shredder's Revenge received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic . The game was a commercial success, selling one million copies within a week of release. Reviewers praised the pixel-based visual style, playable character roster and combat mechanics, while criticism was directed at audio quality issues and the short length of the story mode.

Shredder's Revenge is a side-scrolling action brawler with a pixelated artstyle . In the game, the player assumes control of Leonardo , Donatello , Michelangelo , Raphael , April O'Neil , Master Splinter , and unlockable character Casey Jones [1] as they combat opponents including the Foot Clan , Krang , Bebop and Rocksteady , and Shredder in locations ranging from New York City sewers to Dimension X . [2] Each character has their own attributes (range, speed, and power) and plays differently. They also have unique super moves and taunts. Throughout each stage, players will find pizza boxes, which can be used to heal them, and other pies that grant players extra strength and infinite supers for a brief period of time. [3]

The game features two different modes: Arcade Mode and Story Mode. In arcade mode, players only have a limited amount of lives, and the game must be completed in one sitting. Story mode allows players to convert accumulated points for health , extra lives, additional combat moves, and a special ability known as Radical Mode which temporarily enhances the player character's combat abilities. In story mode, each stage also has optional side-content, challenges. and collectibles . [4] In addition to the single-player mode, the game supports six-players (four-players on Playstation platform) cooperative multiplayer both online and locally. [5] [a] Players can high-five to share health, or work together to perform certain moves. [7]

Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael and Donatello, along with April O'Neil and master Splinter are watching the news on TV when it is interrupted by Bebop , who announces the Foot has returned and is taking over the Statue of Liberty. The heroes go to the Channel 6 building and find Bebop with the head of Krang 's android body, but it is taken away while they were fighting Bebop. The team comes into conflict with Foot operatives and other adversaries while pursuing Krang, finding other parts of his body being reconstructed. Their chase leads them to Dimension X , where they first fight their way through a now destroyed Technodrome, until they eventually reach their enemy's new lair in Dimension X and face Shredder and Krang in his new body. However, this was a decoy to get them away from New York while they were turning the Statue of Liberty into the Statue of Tyranny, a robot controlled by Krang. The Turtles return to New York and defeat Krang and Super Shredder.

After the battle, the heroes return to their lair and watch the news as the city is being restored, but are disappointed to see that the credit goes to the Punk Frogs. That night the Turtles along with April, Splinter and Casey Jones celebrate their victory with pizza.

The game was developed by Montreal-based Tribute Games . The team had experiences working on brawler games at Ubisoft on Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game and TMNT . [8] Nickelodeon first approached Dotemu following the release of Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap on the possibility of developing an adaptation of one of its franchises. After knowing that Tribute Games had been pitching to Nickelodeon for a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game since 2010, the two companies decided to work together after meeting each other at Game Developers Conference . [9] [10] The game was inspired by the animated series in 1987 and the arcade games in the 1990s such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time (1991). While the game paid homage to older TMNT games, the team wanted to modernize the series by introducing various quality-of-life enhancements, online multiplayer, and locations that have not been seen in a 2D Turtles game. [11]

The game features voice acting, with the original cast of the 1987 series, Cam Clarke , Barry Gordon , Rob Paulsen , and Townsend Coleman reprising their roles. [12] The soundtrack was composed by Tee Lopes, who is known for his work on other retro-style games such as Sonic Mania and Streets of Rage 4 . [13] [14] YouTube guitarist Jonny Atma provided the guitar recordings for most of the soundtrack, and vocals for the song "Panic in the Sky!". [15] Singer Mike Patton was invited to perform the theme song for the game. [9] American rapper Mega Ran contributed vocals to the track "It's a Pizza Party!", [16] while Ghostface Killah and Raekwon of the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan were featured in the track "We Ain't Come To Lose". [17]

Dotemu officially announced the game on March 10, 2021. [18] [19] On August 25, 2021, a new trailer was revealed during Gamescom showcasing April O'Neil as a playable character. [20] On February 10, 2022, another trailer was released revealing Master Splinter as a playable character. [21] The release date trailer was revealed at Summer Game Fest on June 9, 2022, which showcased Casey Jones as a playable character. [22] The game was released for Windows , Linux , [23] Nintendo Switch , PlayStation 4 , and Xbox One on June 16, 2022. [24]

Four limited editions of the game were made available by Limited Run Games : The Standard Edition, which includes a physical copy of the game, a reversible cover, an art booklet, a sprite sticker sheet, and a redeemable Pizza Hut coupon. [25] A PC-exclusive edition, that includes everything in The Standard Edition plus retro big box PC packaging, a USB stick with the game, a steel book case for the game, and a mouse pad. [26] The Classic Edition includes everything in The Standard Edition plus a retro VHS sleeve with a tape box to store the game and a steel book case. [27] The Radical Edition includes everything in The Classic Edition, plus a strategy guide, a poster, a Shredder action figure, a shadow box, a mini arcade cabinet replica, a CD soundtrack, and blister box packaging. [28] Merge Games and Signature Edition Games also offered a special edition of the game, which included a physical copy of the game, a signed art card, a special edition outer sleeve, a pizza key ring and booklet inside the game case, a Shredder key ring, individual pins for all four Turtles, a CD soundtrack, a metal coaster, and one randomly selected Turtle mask. [29]

The game's soundtrack will be published on CD and vinyl , by Kid Katana Records. [30] To promote it, a single version of "We Ain't Come To Lose" was released on June 13, 2022. [17]

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge received "generally favorable" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic ; it is currently the highest-rated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game on the website. [31] [32] [33] [34] In July 2022, Tribute Games and Dotemu announced that the game had sold over one million copies in its first week. [48] [49] [50] The Nintendo Switch version was the seventeenth bestselling retail game during its first week of release in Japan, with 4,365 physical copies being sold in the country. [51]

Critics generally lauded the game's appealing personality, animations, music, distinct playstyles, enjoyable combat, and multiplayer. [39] [40] [42] Chris Moyse of Destructoid found the game's attention to detail to be charismatic, writing, "Where Shredder’s Revenge shines brightest, however, is in its personality, utilizing...Individual run cycles, taunts, and celebrations; goofy background characters; and nods to previous TMNT games, shows, and movies." [35] Mollie L. Patterson of EGM thought that the game surpassed the quality of the titles it drew inspiration from and called its visuals "by far the game's best feature", while further praising the stage variety, accessible depth, distinct character-based playstyles, and enemy roster. [36] Marcus Stewart of Game Informer praised the use of level-specific objectives meant to encourage player exploration and the game's chaotic brand of local multiplayer entertainment, stating, "Sure, losing track of yourself in the sea of digital humanity happens often and can be mildly frustrating, but the joy of laughing and cheering alongside so many buddies dulls that irritation." [37] Mitchell Saltzman of IGN said that Shredder's Revenge had "one of the best soundtracks of the year", and also commended the inclusion of additional character mobility options and a meter which incentivized skilled playstyles. [16]

Tom Massey of Nintendo Life was impressed by the game's visuals and wrote, "Familiar locations are rendered with fresh, loving attention to detail, gorgeous colour, and an authentic cartoon flavour, all strung together with great visual storytelling", while also lauding the variety of stages and enemies, well-rounded character roster, and "sterling" soundtrack. [41] PC Gamer 's Dominic Tarason thought positively of the distinct stages and characters, saying, "The backdrops rarely repeat, which is impressive considering Shredder's Revenge is about four times the length of Turtles in Time and far more detailed...The character art is equally lush—despite all having the same body shape, there's few frames shared between the turtles. Their animations capture their personality... [43] " Push Square praised the game's use of rollback netcode and the stability of the online co-op mode, noting that it was "as sturdy as local [co-op]." [44] TJ Denzer of Shacknews said that Shredder's Revenge was one of the best beat-em-ups he had ever played, and wrote, "Each character is fun to explore, the music will stay in your head long after you stop playing, and even if the game feels a bit short, there are plenty of reasons to go back." [45]

Though critics generally regarded the game positively, they took minor issue with a few of its elements. Destructoid felt that while the title was deeper than its predecessors, it broke little new ground in the genre, and deemed its combat mechanics less precise than the ones seen in Streets of Rage 4 . [35] EGM criticized the game's subpar audio quality, and w
