Great chiptune sounds and FX with a 16-step sequencer to bring it all together. Fewer drum/fx/waveform options than the newer POs, but the chord progressions add a compositional aspect. This one gets the most use, followed by the PO-33 K.O. The main downside of the chiptune focus is limited sonic range, but paired with a PO32/PO35 to beef up the rhythm/melody, it can focus on the fun. Beep boop bop arp taaaaang. (Insert Quarter Pun Here)
I bought this as an entry level device because it's cheap. After watching one youtube video I am already creating my own beats. Seriously awesome!

Recreate the nostalgic beat of 8-bit glitchy sounds with the teenage engineering PO-20 arcade . The pocket-sized synthesizer comes with studio-quality sounds, including crazy bleeps, dings, and other vintage arcade beep bops. PO-20 is perfect for making chip-tune beats on the go. You can use it individually or together with other pocket operators.
Onboard PO-20 are 16 synthesized arcade sounds you can use for rapid beat making and chiptune improvisation. You can enhance these sounds by punching in one of the 16 built-in effects. Then tweak these effects in real-time with the parameter locks.
You can use the built-in speaker for instant sound. The 3.5mm output jack works with headphones and external speaker systems. With three different ways to listen, you can choose the ideal experience to explore your creativity.
This pocket operators is a mini-programmable sequencer equipped with 16 patterns. All of these patterns play to a global tempo and swing. PO-20 offers a maximum of 128-chord and 128-pattern chaining. As your sequence plays out, the animations on screen move and groove to the beat.
The onboard clock is one of the pocket operator's quirky features. Use the alarm clock to rouse you from long jamming sessions. To set the alarm clock, press the sound + pattern buttons and turn the A knob for hours and the B knob for minutes. Then press any 1-16 keys to confirm. Turning the A knob all the way down disables the alarm.
Make music anywhere you go with the ultra-portable pocket operator. The small music device offers a multitude of studio-quality sounds. PO-20 is so compact it can fit right inside your jeans pocket. It has a compact 1.8" x 3.5" x 4.9" overall dimensions.

Protect your pocket operator with the teenage engineering CA-X Protective Case . The silicone pro-case is tailor-made to fit with any PO unit. It has number prints instead of symbols for versatility. You can use it with PO-20 or other models. The button lights remain visible with the case on. CA-X includes anti-slip feet, built-in battery protection, and a neck strap. You're reassured no parts of your pocket operator will skid off with CA-X.
Easily daisy chain your pocket operators with the 3-Pack of Blucoil 7" Audio AUX Cables . The 7-inch long cords feature 3.5mm to 3.5mm plugs, 26AWG copper braiding, and OFC spiral shielding. It has high efficacy against EMI and RFI. You can also use the auxiliary cables to engage the "PO-Sync" and synchronize PO-20 with external devices (e.g., OP-1, volca, computer).
The 2-Pack of Blucoil AAA Alkaline Batteries power the pocket operators anytime, anywhere. These 1.5V batteries have a high energy density — twice the amount of a zinc-carbon battery. Pocket operators are fun, they're little pocket sized synths that make some nifty beats. If you haven't used one, I'd recommend buying one from a different series to mess around with before buying three, because it will be overwhelming to try to learn the device while you play with 3 at once. I started with the Sub model, and they all operate the same, so once you master making loops on one, you master them all. I opened these and quickly got playing. If you have used them before, this is why you should get this three pack: They're all worth it if you don't have them. The arcade is great for adding chord progression. The robot is pretty good for lead synth The office is ... Nostalgic. Old office sounds make pretty cool loops. Each pocket operator is what, like $60? The cases are something like $30, each, when you can find them. So that's 3 pocket operators, cased, at $90 each, so, Boom. Already paid for. And you get mini 3.5mm cables. If you're looking at this, and wondering, "Should I get it?" If you like pocket operators, your awnser is yes. If you haven't tried them, you don't HAVE to take my advice, it's your money, but I'd say if you like your first I'd get this for sure. If you're still reading this and wondering, "Why am I reading this?" You can stop, this is the end of the review.
It took only about 20 minutes and s few YouTube videos to figure out how to use these ingenious little things and then the fun began. I ordered the 3-Pack and easily daisy chained them together with the cables that were included and used Arcade, Office, and Robot together. Shipping was super fast and I was up and running in no time. The description does say batteries not included so get yourself a package of AAA batteries also.
