While the opening credits say "based on true events", Thayer did not exist. Writer and director Regina Crosby based Teenage Dirtbag on her experience in high school, Coeur d'Alene (where the high school scenes were actually filmed), and not on any one instance. Of the movie, Crosby said "It definitely talks about the pain you go through in growing up," She said. "You have a lot of regrets that you take into adulthood from high school, and you almost never get the opportunity to make corrections on those regrets or reach out to somebody you didn't reach out to at the time."
In Study Hall Thayer shows Amber a huge scar on his stomach. In a later scene without his shirt on, the scar isn't there.

An Intriguing and Underrated Little Film
I once showed "Teenage Dirtbag" to a college class of freshman-level composition students. While none of them absolutely loved it, it kept the entire class in rapt attention, and no one complained that it was just "stupid" or "boring," which is noteworthy. They found Amber Lange and Thayer Mangeress two very well-realized characters, and Amber's poignant closing lines produced a flurry of involuntary hums and sighs. One guy noted that it had a low budget feel, and that he would have liked more special effects, changes in scenery, and everything else one gets from larger company productions. I saw his point but think the lowbudgetness also adds to the essential realism of the film. What my class found most intriguing were the open questions and room for speculation this film leaves about what _really_ happen to Thayer's father and brother. "Teenage Dirtbag" may not be anything truly special, but it accomplishes what its makers set out to do very well: Taut and gripping storyline with excellent acting and characterization. Several years after seeing it, this film remains quite fresh in my mind.

Thayer : Mad. Mad thoughts. Crazy, twisted, sinewy Mad obsession. You sicken me. You're so beautiful, love. I grind you into a fine, soft Powder and inhale you... And then lick you off of my fingers. You love, answer me. Your face brings me death every day... And every day I can't wait to die. Bury me now, love. Bury me now.

‘Teenage Dirtbag’ is arguably the most well known song by Wheatus. The song was the debut single from Wheatus, released in July 2000. It has been featured in many movies and TV shows, and is known for its relatable lyrics about an unrequited high school romance. The narrator longs for a girl who doesn’t seem to notice him until the end when she asks him to go to a concert with her at the school prom.
Its video clip also featured clips from the movie Loser, starring Jason Biggs and Mena Suvari. As of 2014, “Teenage Dirtbag” has sold five million copies worldwide.
Wheatus frontman Brendan B. Brown has said the song’s lyrics reflect his upbringing on Long Island. In an interview with the Australian site Tone Deaf Brown said:
It came from the summer of 1984 on Long Island, when I was 10 years old. That summer in the woods behind my house, there was a Satanic, drug-induced ritual teen homicide that went down; and the kid who did it was called Ricky Kasso, and he was arrested wearing an AC/DC T-shirt. That made all the papers, and the television, obviously; and here I was, 10 years old, walking around with a case full of AC/DC and Iron Maiden and Metallica [songs] – and all the parents and the teachers and the cops thought I was some kind of Satan worshipper. So that’s the backdrop for that song.

This TikTok trend has users recalling their teenage years that feature photos of their bad haircuts, questionable clothing styles, and awkward poses.
TikTok is an awesome resource for funny video challenges to participate in , and the latest one gives "Teenage Dirtbag" — American rock band Wheatus' most iconic song from the 2000s — a literal translation that has everyone in stitches. Various viral TikTok memes take old songs and give them new life. Older millennials (who were teens in the early aughts, when fashion was heavily inspired by rock, punk, emo, and hip-hop, to name a few) are turning the trend on its head with the ultimate throwback of photos that exemplify pretty much the opposite of what was considered cool at the time.
What makes a great TikTok trend is how the videos almost always show something weird and unexpected. For instance, one of the most popular video effects on the platform is the Horace filter , an animated dancing guy wearing a red onesie that at initially looks odd, but is incredibly hilarious as videos that showcase the character play on. Personality quiz results are another trend that regularly goes viral on TikTok, wherein users showcase screenshots of their results along with their funny reactions and a catchy sound clip.
Here's what the " Teenage Dirtbag " meme that's gaining steam all over social media tends to look like: the clip starts off with a current photo or a video clip of the TikTok user acting casual while doing normal everyday things, with a text sticker that says, ' My Teenage Dirtbag Photos. ' After that comes a stream of photos of the user in their youth , but rather than show the expected too-cool-for-school type of snapshots that epitomize punk rock, what viewers get instead is a barrage of corny hairstyles, mismatched clothes, bad makeup, and awkward poses and facial expressions. Of course, the cherry on top is hearing a very spot-on snippet of "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus as the throwback pictures roll on.
Ready to join the "Teenage Dirtbag" bandwagon? Launch the TikTok app, search for 'teenagedirtbag' and click on one of the videos. Make sure the sound clip playing is a sped-up portion of "Teenage Dirtbag." Tap the ' Green Screen ' effect link on the video that lets users change the background image with their own and hit ' Use this effect. ' For the first part of the video, pick the no-background option to remove the greenscreen effect and record a four-second selfie video. Then, for the next clips, face the camera away so that only the background is onscreen. Tap ' Effects ', choose ‘ Green Screen, ’ and pick a photo from the gallery to apply the image as background. Record a video of just the background. If using only one image, keep the record button pressed until the lyric " Coz I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby " is done. If using multiple images, to maximize the meme, have at least four photos ready and keep the record button pressed for " Coz I'm just a " then tap ' Effects, ' select ' Green Screen, ' and pick the next photo to use as background .
Repeat the recording process, with one background photo per word in the lyrics (one for "teenage", "dirtbag", and "baby"). Tap ✔ to review the entire video and make sure the photos are in time with the lyrics. To make changes, hit the back button and discard the clips (x icon) that need to be re-recorded. Tap ✔ again then hit ' Text ' to add a text sticker that says something like ' My Teenage Dirtbag Photos '. Tap the text, select ' Set duration, ' drag the clip slider to only cover the initial selfie video, then ✔ to finalize. Once satisfied with the result, hit ' Next, ' type a caption — make sure the hashtags #greenscreen, #teenagedirtbag, and #teenagedirtbagchallenge are included — and post the story.
The "Teenage Dirtbag" meme is gaining traction on TikTok , with the #teenagedirtbagchallenge and #teenagedirtbag hashtags raking in over 462,000 and 439 million views respectively. Comedian Michael Barrymore — who was born in 1952 and was absolutely not a teenager when the song was released — made a video that featured hilarious black-and-white photos and promptly went viral with over 1.5 million views. Other celebrities have also participated in the TikTok trend, such as Joe Jonas, Alicia Silverstone, Charli XCX, and even Cheech & Chong.
