When the trio enters the farm house, from the outside the shade on the door is drawn down about six inches. But when the shot moves to the inside, the shade is much lower. Also, the position of the trellis by the door changes between those shots as well.
I haven't read the IMDB reviews yet because this deserves a higher rating than given. If you can get past the recycled plot, stereotypes, and cliches of its decade, this film delivers strong performances. I expected a farce based on the title, and I got a cerebral jolt of surprise. The dialogue often feels forced and obligatory, but the cast makes the most of the script. I think the director cared. A nod to music conductor Mischa Bakaleinikoff!

Though it has been suggested that spikes in crime rates for teens and young adults in the United States are a result of teens being biologically predisposed to risky, law-breaking behavior, a new study indicates that culture may play a role in shaping the criminal behavior of teenagers.
In a study of age and crime statistics in Taiwan, the researchers say that the Asian country’s youth crime pattern differs from the model seen in most western countries.
“Saying that teen brains are wired for crime has become a mantra, in many ways…”
In the United States, which tends to be more individualistic, for example, involvement in crime tends to peak in middle-to-late teens and then declines, says Darrell Steffensmeier, liberal arts research professor of sociology and criminology at Penn State.
In Taiwan, which has more of a collectivist culture with less separation between generations, however, the crime rate does not dramatically peak at the same ages as it does in the US. Participation in most crimes in Taiwan tends to reach a high point in the late 20s or early 30s, he adds.
“There is obviously a relationship between age and crime, but, historically, there have been two competing views,” says Steffensmeier.
“The overwhelmingly most acceptable view now is that the age-crime association is invariant. It’s universal—crime peaks in late adolescence and then drops—always and everywhere. But our findings suggest that, in some countries and cultures, the age-crime association is different, so it can’t be invariant,” he explains.
According to the researchers, whose findings appear in the journal Criminology , if crime and age patterns are the same across cultures, that would suggest the age-crime relationship is a preprogrammed behavior driven by biology and neurobiology.
“If it’s universal, then it implies a biological basis,” says Steffensmeier. He says the idea that biology influences the high teen-crime rates may also guide policy making on punishment, crime prevention, and rehabilitation.
“Saying that teen brains are wired for crime has become a mantra, in many ways,” says Steffensmeier. “Some see this as having policy implications, too. For example, if teenagers are pre-programmed for sensation-seeking, which leads to crime, then it means that they’re less responsible and blameworthy. Therefore, people who believe this might say we need to undo this punitive juvenile justice system.
“Now, it may be that the justice system is too punitive, but the idea that this age-crime relationship is driven primarily by biology becomes a scientific rationalization,” he says.
According to the researchers, the differing patterns between Taiwan and US crime rates suggest that cultural factors may also be important influences on criminal behavior.
“Whatever the biological, or neurobiological, factors that might contribute to criminal behavior, culture and social structure apparently play as great, or greater role,” says Yunmei Lu, a doctoral candidate and graduate assistant in sociology and criminology. “It also suggests a greater amount of plasticity for humans, including during their adolescence.”
In Taiwan, parents are more active in supervising their children, according to Lu. There is also a steep price for nonconforming Taiwan teens.
“In Taiwan, teens are less likely to emphasize autonomy and fun and less likely to engage in behaviors different from, or opposed to, the adults,” says Lu. “Taiwan youth are more likely to view deviance as too risky to their future success in attending a good school or finding a good job.”
Hua Zhong, an associate professor of sociology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, also worked with Steffensmeier and Lu on the study. She emphasizes that patterns of parental and school involvement in Taiwan may make the country’s age-crime schedule more spread out than in the US for all types of criminal offenses.
“In Taiwan, parental and school supervision and involvement are very extensive during adolescence but would be reduced after those children graduated from high school,” she says. “Youth after 18 years old would then have more freedom for exposure to deviant or criminal messages.”
Zhong adds that the age and crime relationship in Taiwan could be linked with its philosophical roots in Confucianism.
According to Zhong, the way societies eventually integrate youth into the world of adults also may play a large role in age-crime patterns.
“Different societies may have differences in age-graded norms and integration of youth with adult society in ways that lead to differences in extent of adolescent crime and the age-crime association,” says Zhong.
The researchers used arrest data from the Taiwan Criminal Investigation Bureau of Police Administration Agency. Data on the US arrests came from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting Program. The researchers examined violent crimes, such as robbery and assault, as well as nonviolent crimes, such as theft and fraud.
To understand such diversified mechanisms of the age-crime relationship and provide policy suggestions for reducing the high adolescent concentration of criminal offenses in the US, the researchers plan to study age-specific crime data in other countries in order to provide more cross-cultural comparisons.

Why Do Teens Commit Juvenile Crimes?

Crime can affect all of us. It is a universal truth that no matter where we live, we will have come into contact with crime or criminal behavior at some point in our lives.
Whether it be crimes committed in our area; whether it be us or members of our family being the victim of crime; or whether it be crime we see broadcast on the television, we cannot get away from it.
Crimes that are committed by teenagers can often be particularly distressing as it seems horrific that someone so young should turn to crime. You might be wondering why do teens commit juvenile crimes?
The answers are relatively straight forward but they are worth discussing in depth so that you understand why teenagers become involved in crime and how often the crimes they commit are a result of crime committed against them.
Before we start breaking down the various reasons that teenagers commit juvenile crimes, let’s set out the two broad categories for motivations. They are personal circumstances and underlying psychological issues.
Personal circumstances is the largest motivating category because it has so many sub categories, which we will get into later. Underlying psychological issues can often be combined with issues related to personal circumstances to make teenagers commit crime; however, one or the other is often the defining factor as to why the teen committed it.
Now that we’ve set out the broad reasons that teenager commit crime, let’s take a moment to define what exactly a juvenile crime is
A juvenile crime is defined in the United States of America as being a crime committed by anyone under the age of 18. This means that murder, rape and extortion to name three crimes more associated by adults, can be considered juvenile crimes if the person who committed them was under 18 at the time they were committed.
The definition depends on the defendant/perpetrators age rather than any other factor. This means that anything can be considered a juvenile crime as long as it is committed by a juvenile.
Now that we’ve established the broad categories and what the definition of a juvenile crime is, let’s explain exactly what these rather broad categories mean.
Personal circumstances related to the circumstances that are a part of the day-to-day life of the teen that has committed the offence. They can have a wide range of causes and meanings.
For example, if a teenager grows up in a house in which domestic violence is commonplace and considered acceptable, that will mean that if that teenager commits domestic violence, it can be said to be partly used by his or her personal circumstances – that they were set a bad example and simply followed it.
Similarly, if drug use is common in an individual’s family, then it is possible that they will not see drugs or drug related crimes as being out of the ordinary or in any way negative. Rather, they might attempt to follow the example set by their parents or adult figures in their life and thus commit similar crimes such as taking or dealing in drugs.
The easiest example to demonstrate exactly how personal circumstances cause teens to commit crime is this one. Imagine a teenager who is growing up in a family in which there is little money; they may receive food vouchers but, like millions of Americans, they may not. The family is hungry, illness caused by the hunger may have impacted the health of younger siblings. A teenager may take it upon themselves to either steal food or to steal money in order to support their family.
This is the way in which personal circumstances can cause teens to commit crimes – the teenager may not have been inclined to crime, particularly the offence of stealing, if there hadn’t been a shortage of food in their household. Personal circumstances can thus act as a mitigating factor to teenagers on juvenile charges as it can be said that said personal circumstances combined with their age mean that they should not be as severely punished as if they were an adult and committed a similar crime.
Of course, there are teenagers who are in similar situations to those who don’t commit crimes. Therefore, you could argue, surely personal circumstances aren’t entirely relevant.
The reason humans commit crimes are complex and sometimes personal circumstances are made worse by underlying psychological factors which can also cause instances of crime. It is worth
