The subliminal message behind the teenage girl in the beginning is to normalize incest, pedophilia, and the sexualization of children. I watched the first few minutes and got too disgusted to watch the movie to the end. The teenaged girl did something sexual to herself and said her father liked it when she did that. Tony Dushane might think incest and pedophilia are funny. The subliminal message is that he wants his audience to think incest and pedophilia are normal and funny. I disagree with that subliminal message of Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk. That is why I said that I would rather be a Jesus Jerk than a pedophile and a filthy pervert. That was disgusting. The story is supposedly about a teenaged boy, so Tony Dushane's audience is intended to be teenagers. He is teaching teenaged viewers that it is normal, funny, and socially acceptable for your parents to be sexually attracted to their children or any child. The subliminal message of this movie is gross. The first few minutes told me all I needed to know about the rest of the movie. It would be painful for me to watch the rest. If there was something more to the story, well, screenwriter, Tony Dushane, you only have one time to make a first impression. The first few minutes of this movie was wasted on nudity and the suggestion of incest and pedophilia. Who would enjoy the sexualization of children except for sexual predators and deviants? I am not a pervert, so I cannot watch the remainder of this movie. I had an urge to vomit just with the few minutes I did see. I want literature or movies to lift me up spiritually or intellectually, make me feel good, or teach me a lesson. The first few minutes of watching the suggestion of incest and pedophilia, written in a way to humorize or normalize the perversions, made me feel like garbage just by watching Tony Dushane's filthy imagination play out on film. Therefore, it is only fair that I conclude the entire movie is garbage based upon how it made me feel just within in the first few minutes. If the first five minutes or so made me feel like garbage, why would I let Tony Dushane and his movie make me feel like garbage for the rest of the 1 hour and 31 minutes? If you have some self-respect, morals, and family values, do not watch this garbage. If you are sexually attracted to your own children or anyone's children, be my guest and watch Tony Dushane's garbage movie.

This book tells it like it is JWs live in a very closed world and utterly reject independent thinking and curiosity about life. If it is not in the Watchtower or Awake it is forbidden. They are forbidden to get any education beyond high school and only that because it is the law. I studied in a Jewish seminary ( yeshiva) in Jerusalem and read the Bible in the original Hebrew.Their version, The New World Translation, is not a faithful translation of the original text. The JW who I have met cannot defend their beliefs when I show them the original language, Hebrew. They take everything on faith that what they are taught is true. It is a total lie and misrepresentation of what G-d teaches in the original text. Former member of the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses, Raymond Franz , wrote a very detailed book on the lies and deceit of the JW world and GB. He lost everything to speak the truth but in so doing gained real Truth and joy. This movie shows the hell that JWs impose on each other and their families all in the name of G-d. Read Crisis of Conscience: The story of the struggle between loyalty to God and loyalty to one’s religion, and Franz will convince you with his story. You will never again see the JW the same again. Amazon currently sells both the paperback and the ebook version ( cheaper). The Truth shall set you free.

And, yes it was. I feel witness to things private, a simmering shame, like paying homage to the young man I might have been. They lived next door, my JW friends, and though we weren't privy to my cousin’s breasts, we had enough larks to surely see them disfellowshiped -- if their parents had known. Though Gabe is somewhat bolder than my neighbors Carl and Eric, his story rings true. “Confessions of a Teenage Jerk” works on several levels, both as a window into a cultish world and as a wide angle shot of that angst we all once felt. In fact. I'm still a bit perplexed by the feelings this film elicits. Perhaps I should be, for those years were as frustrating as they were exhilarating. Try this movie on for size -- it just might fit...and right well!

I decided to check out this new movie because it sounded like the type of indie coming-of-age movie that I tend to like, well that and I was curious about Eric Stoltz's directorial debut, and Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk did not disappoint. The film is a really interesting story about a young man who is having to deal head on with sexuality as he is getting older, yet balance that with the fact that he is a Jehovah's Witness. Now I wasn't that familiar with what being a Jehovah's Witness entails, but it became clear that this created a unique yet still relatable situation for the lead character and many of us watching who have had to deal with perhaps different, but similarly conservative upbringings. One of the early scenes is an incredibly awkward encounter where the guy doesn't even know what to do with bare boobs in front of him. If you're interested in a well made indie coming-of-age film that deals with the complexities of maturing within a conservative religion, then definitely check out Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk! Highly recommend.

Much more of a gut wrenching drama than the lighthearted satire I was expected. Fine production values, solid script, and terrific actors, including the great character actor James Karen in one of his final roles. Lead Sasha Feldman is an interesting hybrid of super-geek Jay Baruchel and super cool James Franco and is easy to root for. My only concern is that Jehovah's Witnesses are too easy a target, and that the film so stacks the deck against them that it ultimately robs the movie and the points its making of some of power. One comes away wondering what drew Stoltz the director to the subject; perhaps personal experience?

Despite the depressing subject matter of children forced to grow up in a violent religious cult, this movie was uplifting. Some might argue that it isn't "violent" because the abuse portrayed isn't always physical, but emotional violence is just as damaging, if not more so. While extremely entertaining, sometimes laugh out loud funny, the story conjures up a lot of moral/ethical questions that are dead serious. Well worth a watch, it's never boring, and it will certainly make you challenge your beliefs.

I didn't know what to expect from this movie. I grew up among a lot of Jehovah's Witnesses, and I had friends who were cast out staying at my place while they got their life together. This film truly captures what it was like and what my friends went through -- trying to live up to the teachings while still trying to resist their natural urges. This film does not bash Jehovah's Witnesses -- it's actually quite good at being honest in its portrayal. No character is an outright villain which makes the story so much more tragic. But what's surprising about this film is how absolutely funny it is. This is an impressive indie.

This is a really intriguing story about a teenager trying to figure it out. Trying to figure out his sexuality as what he knows so deeply goes against his religion. These types of stories are eye-opening, especially if you've never lived anything like this. This film is real, and we need more real films.
