Upskirting Video Of Russian Woman Goes Viral, Protest Gets Slammed On Social Media

A Russian student was filmed flashing her underpants to raise awareness about ‘upskirting’ laws in Russia. Anna Dovgalyuk, a self-described public activist marked a solo protest by pulling up her skirt on the busy St. Petersburg subway. In the video she is seen standing at the crowded subway wearing a red dress soon then she lifts her skirt showing her undergarments. People passing by can seen looking at the student confused while she lifts her skirt. Upskirting is the practice when strangers take pictures of an unaware victim from under the skirt. The video was shared on YouTube with the caption, “This video is ‘dedicated’ to all who love to peek under skirts. On the behalf, all women who became your victims – here, look! However, the makers of the video did not receive the response they were expecting from it. It is also not clear why Anna thought upskirting in public place would discourage others and raise awareness. She did not receive the support from social media like she thought. Although the video has been viewed more than 1.6 million times since it was uploaded last week, most comments are demeaning and insulting. According to 9news, Dovgalyuk has demanded the practice be criminalized in Russia, like in Australia, Scotland, New Zealand and some US states. While there is no specific upskirting offense in Australia, perpetrators charged with filming person’s private parts without consent will be awarded a maximum two-year jail term. “I want to draw the most attention to a serious problem, which in our society is usually kept quiet,” Dovgalyuk wrote on YouTube.
