Teen Titans Team on Finally Making Beast Boy & Raven a Couple
Within the square walls of a comic panel, Raven presses her lips against Beast Boy's cheek and snaps a quick selfie. She's wearing a black mesh crop top, he has a Fall Out Boy shirt tucked into his belt, could it be anymore obvious? The bathroom is covered in juvenile debris – crumpled-up tissues, a toothpaste tube squeezed down to its final drop, but Raven doesn't seem to care. One hand on his cheek, the other clutching an iPhone pointed at the mirror. It's clear they've been happy together for a very long time.
And at last, in 2020, DC finally gave the people what they wanted. Piccolo teamed up with writer Kami Garcia for a subdued, breezy interpretation of some of the Teen Titans mainstays – a universe in line with Picolo's Instagram, where you could believe that Cyborg wears Champion slides and Starfire orders McDonald's for Robin. Within that private sanctum, where all of the pressures and responsibilities of the superhero trade have faded to the background, Raven and Beast Boy are finally enjoying some time alone, together.
After Future State: Every New DC Comics Series Confirmed for 2021
Sheridan says he’s always been a hardcore Beast Boy/Raven shipper, particularly because - while they may never have been branded as “queer” by WB - they expressed a level of self-identity that spoke to him as a young queer man. "When I was young, I recognized in them the same kind of queerness that I was coming to understand about myself," he says. "They present that way to newer generations of fans who understand that queerness, perhaps, has more to do with who you are than who you kiss." But Sheridan is also aware that, considering the absurd scale of fan intrigue in all of the characters in his lap, i’s impossible to appease every reader at once. After all, he's only got five issues and around 100 pages, which simply isn't enough time to enact an incisive autopsy into why Beast Boy and Raven click.
That's reassuring for all the Teen Titans lifers out there. But if you're an outsider, the one lingering question you might have is… why these two? What is it about the saga of Beast Boy and Raven that stands tall above all the other simmering love affairs in comics? What drives the obsession over other bemused trysts like Robin and Starfire? Or Bruce Banner and Black Widow? After all, these two are far from the most powerful figures in the DC cosmology, and their dalliances don't carry the same seismic implications as Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, and Diana Prince. What makes them so special?
When there's trouble, you know who to call: TEEN TITANS! Five teenage superheroes fight aliens, evildoers and dirty dishes for the good of all humanity.

Raven may have become DC's ultimate dark god in the distant future, and that plot point might have been teased by Teen Titans Go!
By Brandon Zachary Published Feb 04, 2021
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for the story "The Beginning of the End" from Future State: Suicide Squad #1 by Jeremy Adams, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, Jeromy Cox & Wes Abbott, on sale now
The DC Universe of Future State has featured some surprising turns for many former heroes, with figures like Shazam, Red Hood and others seeming to become villains after their present-day adventures ended. However, there's a chance the ultimate threat of a distant future might actually be a modern-day hero.
The Unkindness, the mystical monster powerful enough to defeat Superman Prime and ravage the DC One Million timeline, may actually be actually be the dark final fate of the Teen Titans' Raven, and her fall may have even been predicted by Teen Titans Go!
In the distant future of the 853rd Century, the Justice Legion are some of the chief protectors of the galaxy. They carry on the legacies of figures like the original Superman, who is still alive after centuries of living within the heart of a star. But even now, Superman Prime isn't able to contend with the threat of the Unkindness, a mysterious mystical powerhouse. The coming of the Unkindness is the first thing in thousands of years that actually inspire fear in the Man of Steel, and her power is strong enough to command the Lords of Chaos and turn the Seven Deadly Sins into her personal minions. The magic attacks proves to be one of the few things capable of harming Superman Prime, leading to his defeat and the destruction of the last Green Lantern Ring.
While there doesn't seem to be an in-universe version of the Unkindness, a version of the Unkindness seemingly appeared in the climactic battle of the Teen Titans vs. Teen Titans Go! animated film. After recruiting the Teen Titans of the multiverse to combat the might of two fused versions of Trigo, the Teen Titans Go! incarnation of Raven is forced to consume all of her multiversal counterparts to absorb their power. Doing so causes a massive change in Raven that induces a powerful new form capable of bringing down her father. Raven even refers to herself as the Unkindness -- which stands for a flock of ravens -- before the battle truly begins, officially tying the title to her.
With all that in mind, it's possible that the Unkindness of the 853rd Century is actually the former Teen Titan, Raven. There are plenty of clues that suggest so: she has four crimson eyes, similar to the eyes of Trigon and even Raven herself when she embraces that side of her power. The Unkindness has a purple color scheme (similar to Raven) and the mystical energy coming off of her resembles a pair of spread out wings, a common motif for the hero. Raven's monumental magical power could one day evolve to the point where she could control the Seven Deadly Sins. The solicitation for Future State: Shazam #2 suggests that Raven will become a villain in the Future State-era, with a massive (and seemingly mystical) chest scar that matches the look of the Unkindness. Theoretically, her magics could even make her immortal.
All of this suggests a truly tragic fate for Raven. The young hero has long tried to suppress her darker side and the demonic impulses that come with being the child of Trigon. She's done a good job of it, with even her earlier Future State appearances suggesting she would remain a hero even after all the hardships that befall Titans Academy. But if Raven does eventually transform into the Unkindness as seen in the Future State: Black Adam story, then she's fated to become the kind of monster that she's spent her entire life fighting against.
