A young widow's daughter was given a tattered old Christmas stocking at a holiday craft sale, but her mother is skeptical of its magic when it seems to create small trinkets on its own.
It's been three years since Doug Monroe died during the lead up to Christmas. His widow, Lindsey Monroe, a planner with the Township of Gilford, has been reluctant to do Christmas ever since as Doug was an integral part of the Monroe family Christmas routine. Lindsey, who has not been able to put Doug behind her, is finally able to put up Christmas decorations this year for the first time since Doug's death. Their now preteen daughter, Hannah Monroe, is excited to have the Christmas spirit in the house again if only in this small way. Hannah is desperately wishing for and expecting a puppy for Christmas, something that Lindsey does not want to oblige for reasons she has not told Hannah. What Lindsey has to deal with at work this Christmas season is Mayor Fred Barnes' supposed pet project, namely to rebuild the long gone gazebo in the town square exactly as it was, it to be completed in time for the historic town lighting to take place on Christmas Eve. He has hired Scott Terrell, new to Gilford, to build the gazebo. The problem is is that there are no records of the old gazebo itself. While Lindsey believes any gazebo will do with the primary goal of getting it done for the lighting ceremony, Scott, for reasons of his own, is determined to build the gazebo exactly as it was. While attending a Christmas bazaar at the church, Hannah is given a Christmas stocking by one of the bazaar merchants, an elderly woman no one seems to know. When Hannah hangs the stocking on their fireplace mantle, inexplicable things begin to happen to Lindsey, Hannah, and Lindsey's exuberant mother, Donna Chastain, that potentially brings more and more Christmas spirit back into their lives. Hannah, then Donna, slowly begin to believe that the stocking has magical powers to bring the Christmas spirit back into the lives of its possessors, the stocking which made its way into their house by no accident. Lindsey, who admits that she is attracted to Scott but is not yet be ready to leave Doug behind her, may require a stronger miracle to make her believe in the Christmas spirit of the stocking.—Huggo
Imogen Tear, who played Hannah Monroe, were given the puppy as a gift at the completion of the film production. The puppy kept his name, Magic, which is the same name as the character name. It is the puppy that Hannah originally wanted when her mother first said no and eventually received him toward the end of the movie.
While the money in the Jar is being counted, the Mayor announces 'and it continues to climb. $1100 dollars!' At this point, the container of coins is shown, almost as full as it was when they started counting the coins - yet there were only $1225.47 in the jar.
