TEENAGE adventurer Jessica Watson will set off on the final leg of her test run to Sydney tomorrow, before embarking on her bid to become the youngest person to sail solo around the globe.
The 16-year-old yesterday conducted sea trials of her yacht Ella's Pink Lady off the Gold Coast after repairs following her collision with 63,000-tonne cargo vessel off North Stradbroke Island on September 9.
The Sunshine Coast teenager will conduct further tests today before heading off from the Gold Coast tomorrow, spokesman Andrew Fraser said.
Mr Fraser said the tests had shown the repairs had been successful and new equipment worked well.
"The main purpose to go out was not so much to test the sails and rigging, because we knew that would all be okay and it was, but the communications and radar equipment is a crucial component and ... everything is working very well," he said.
Ms Watson was expected to get to Sydney by Monday, where she will attend some promotional events and have cameras fitted to the yacht to shoot a documentary.
"After seeing how everything comes up after a four- or five-day sea trial and fine tunings in Sydney, Jess can get some more rest and when things are right and the weather window is good and hopefully all the tsunamis have gone she will head off," Mr Fraser said.
He said he understood the tsunamis affecting the South Pacific would not impact on the journey.
Jessica has been under pressure to abandon her gruelling 27,000 nautical mile around-the-world voyage after the crash.
But Mr Fraser said she remained "100 per cent committed".

MONROE, La. – It's now official: A Louisiana teenager is the youngest pilot to fly solo around the world.
Look up "Mason Andrews" at www.guinnessworldrecords.com, and there he is: "Youngest person to circumnavigate by aircraft, solo."
The Monroe resident was 18 years and 163 days old when he landed his Piper PA-32 Lance in Monroe on Oct. 6. The previous record-holder, Lachlan Smart of Queensland, Australia, was 71 days older.
Andrews' trip took 180 flight hours over 76 days, including nearly three weeks stuck in the Philippines by typhoons.
The News-Star reports that Andrews' family learned during the weekend that his record had been certified.
Andrews tells KNOE-TV he's aiming at another record. He won't say what it is, but says it could be the biggest aviation achievement in a decade.
