Bedwetting In Teens - Possible Causes And What To Do About It.
Do you have a teen who is still wetting the bed ? You’re not alone. Many teens struggle with nocturnal enuresis, a fancy term for nighttime bedwetting. And while it can be frustrating and emotionally draining for both you, and your teen, most of the time, they will grow out of it.
There is a family history of bedwetting.
They produce too much urine overnight
They are experiencing a stressful situation or a big change (new school, change in family dynamic, trouble with friends, etc.)
All of these things may contribute to a teens bedwetting problem. So, what can you do to help them? The first course of action is to contact a physician as soon as you can to help set up a treatment plan. Be supportive of your teen and try not to make a big deal out of it – it’s very likely that your teen is already extremely embarrassed about wetting the bed. Talk with them about it, and show them how to clean themselves, and their bedding when they have an accident. You don’t want to encourage them to hide their problem, but constantly having to ask you for help may make them feel even more embarrassed.
These alarms detect moisture and can alert a teen if they are starting to have an accident. Over time, this can help condition them to wake up and use the bathroom when they need to go.
Just like other muscles in the body, the bladder can be trained to empty at specific times. Learn more about how to retrain your bladder here.
There are several medications that can help with bedwetting in teens and adults. Talk to your doctor to see if this may be a good option for your teen.
Try to avoid drinking too much about an hour before bedtime, and always be sure to empty your bladder prior to going to bed.
The article failed to mention bedwetting in puberty which can last into the teen years! Our daughter is almost 14 and still bedwetting from her puberty. She has been wearing cloth diapers and plastic pants ever since the bedwetting started and they keep her bed dry.

TikTok users are urinating on themselves as part of the revolting 'Pee Your Pants Challenge,' and while it allegedly started as a joke, it quickly became the latest trend to go viral on the platform.
The disgusting videos show people (mostly guys) standing in front of their bathroom mirrors fully dressed as they proudly wet themselves — all while catching the entire thing on camera.
Liam Weyer, 19, from Kansas, started the challenge on April 21 when he posted footage of himself peeing his pants and aptly dubbed it the #peeyourpantschallenge.
Too far? Liam Weyer, 19, from Kansas, started the 'Pee Your Pants Challenge' on April 21 when he posted footage of himself peeing his pants on TikTok (pictured)
Whoops! The teen claims he filmed the video as a parody of other 'pointless' challenges and was surprised that it started to trend
In the clip, he is wearing a T-shirt and shorts as he looks in the mirror and says, 'Pee your pants challenge.'
Viewers can then hear his stream of urine hitting the floor as a wet spot forms on his shorts.
The video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, though Liam had to repost the clip after TikTok removed the original.
Many people were appalled by the footage, with some blaming the coronavirus pandemic for leading to such a gross challenge.
'I refuse to believe this video exists,' one person commented, while another added: 'People seriously need to get back to work soon...everyone has gone insane.'
Going for it: One of the most popular videos is from TikTok user @mentally7evan, who stood in his bathroom in a T-shirt and jeans as he wet himself
Gross: Evan laughs as a stream of urine snakes down his leg, but then he starts to groan. He pans the camera toward the ground to show the puddle of pee he is standing in
'This lockdown is making people even more insane,' someone else agreed.
While it's undoubtedly disgusting, Liam inadvertently inspired others to take part in the challenge, though he insists the video was meant to be a spoof.
'I am definitely surprised that the challenge actually became a trend,' Liam told Insider via email. 'I created the challenge as a parody of the other challenges that have gone viral on the internet in an attempt to show how pointless they are.
'I am surprised to see that people on the internet will pee themselves if you call it a challenge and add a hashtag.'
While Liam never intended on people following his lead, many have. The #peeyourpantschallenge hashtag that he started has more than 3.3 million views.
Smart? TikTok user @turkofgta was at least wise enough to stand in the bathtub when he took on the challenge

Most of the clip show participants saying 'pee your pants challenge' before peeing their pants — just like Liam did.

Plenty of people have also used the hashtag to share their disgust regarding the challenge or to post gags where they pretend they're going pee their pants before changing their minds.
The new challenge is almost as sickening as the toilet-licking challenge that took place in mid-March amid the coronavirus pandemic, prompting a fierce backlash from horrified critics.

The question is not whether you’ll change; you will. Research clearly shows that everyone’s personality traits shift over the years, often for the better. But who we end up becoming and how much we like that person are more in our control than we tend to think they are.

Thank goodness that I can write to you anonymously about my teenage son and his masturbation habits. These topics are certainly not easy for me to talk or write about. I would love to compare notes with my friends who have teenage sons but I am scared to death that this information will leak to their sons and my son will end up getting teased. I would never want that to happen. I treat my relationships with my kids with much respect and care.
So, having said that, here is my issue: I am the mother of a 15-year-old teenager and a 10-year-old boy. The boys have separate bedrooms. Recently, I have become aware that my teenage son has been masturbating several times per week. I am basing this on physical evidence—the status of his bedding, sheets, etc. You get the picture. I don't know what the "normal" frequency is. I'm not sure if I should address this as a problem or not. My husband dismisses this issue. He says that this behavior is perfectly normal and, I quote, that I should "leave a box of tissues in the kid's room and leave him alone." He says that I should be happy that my son is a happy and healthy kid who is interested in his sexuality .
Dr. G., I don't want to make any mistakes here. My son is a good kid. His grades are fine and he has nice friends. I do not want to give you the impression that he runs to his bed at every possible opportunity. In fact, he doesn't spend much time in his room at all. His afterschool time is mostly spent playing sports.
So, what do you think? Does my son have a problem that requires some type of treatment? I certainly don't want to raise a sex addict. Please help.
First, I would like to commend you on a number of things. You respect your son's feelings and your relationship with him. That is excellent. You make it clear that your son's behavior in other areas of his life has not changed. That is very helpful information. I also agree that discussing this issue with a friend who may be even the slightest bit careless could certainly be a major misstep. Finally, talking with your husband and getting his input was also an excellent idea.
My advice provides guidelines only. The rules of masturbation and teenage boys have never been clearly established. Here is my attempt at it.
1. If your son is involved in all areas of his life and is not focusing exclusively on porn and masturbation then it is unlikely that he is developing a sex addiction .
2. If he seems comfortable with himself and is not showing signs of avoidance, confusion, and shame then I would guess that he is probably not experiencing these feelings to any problematic extent.
3. My suggestion is not to introduce shame to this equation. I believe that there is no need, in your particular case, to address your son's behavior directly.
4. Although your husband may have seemed dismissive, his idea about leaving a box of tissues in your son's room is actually not a bad idea. It may indirectly send the message that you are aware of your son's behavior and that you are responding to it in a casual and relaxed manner.
5. As a mother, you may have some discomfort with your son's developing sexuality. This is to be expected.
It sounds like you are a thoughtful, well-intentioned mother. Keep up the good work.
