A female teacher repeatedly had sex with a “besotted” 14-year-old girl after convincing her parents she was “like a big sister”, a UK court heard today.
Kim Connor, 46, began teaching the girl when she was aged nine at stage school before giving her “private tuition” for drama, it is said.
When the girl turned 14 and was struggling with her sexuality, she went to the teacher’s home and was kissed “chastely” on the mouth, Minshull Street Crown Court heard.
But the relationship developed and she later started to touch the teen inappropriately over her clothing, it was said.
They would also share a bed – with Ms Connor allegedly so trusted by the pupil’s family she was allowed to stay over.
Jurors were told one night Ms Connor opened a safe in her wardrobe revealing sex toys and encouraged the girl to use them on each other.
The pair would also allegedly go shopping together in Salford and went to see top London shows – even going on holiday to Portugal together when the teen was 16.
But the girl ended the alleged relationship when she got to university and realised it “wasn’t right”, it was said.
The court heard how she was inspired to open up about the abuse, which allegedly took place 15 years ago, by the #MeToo movement.
“I adored her, I idolised her. She made me feel special because I thought she had chosen me,” she told jurors.
The girl told the court how they never showed “any affection” when in public and “had to hide” if Ms Connor saw parents of any children she taught.
She also said in evidence how her parents would sometimes let her spend the night at Connor’s home while they visited a sick relative in a hospice.
“She was there to help us all through it,” she said, breaking down.
“I viewed her at that time like a big sister.”
The court heard how she was entralled by Ms Connor, who “exploited” the “vulnerability” of a young girl.
During cross-examination, the girl denied making up her account because she was jealous after Connor got another appointment at a different stage school.
“The first 15 years of my life were ruined by Kim Connor,” she said.
“I had to have counselling for depression and anxiety.”
The court was told when she arrested, Ms Connor admitted the pair had been in a sexual relationship but insisted it had not begun until the girl turned 18.
Connor, from Manchester, denies six counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child being a person in a position of trust and a further six of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity being a person in a position of trust.

A man who viewed more than 1,000 indecent images of children has been placed on the sex offenders register for five years after a tip-off by an internet provider led police to his computer.
John Nash’s top search for such pictures while he was on the internet was ‘pre-teen models’.
When officers raided his home in Chatham after information from the internet provider that his computer was being used view indecent images, Nash denied having a sexual interest in children.
His Samsung computer was seized and analysed found to have 50 live images in category C, the lower range of seriousness.
When officers searched through his internet browsing history they found 1,115 similar category C images which had been deleted from his hard drive.
Nash, 51, of Arnhem Drive, was charged with one count of possessing indecent images of children and another of making indecent images of children.
He appeared before magistrates in Medway in December and admitted the charges against him and was sentenced there this week.
Debbie Jones prosecuting, said: “When his Samsung flat screen was analysed his search history showed on a number of occasions he had searched for pre-teen models.
“The images showed children in provocative poses posing in short skirts.
“During interviews he told offices he searched for such images out of interest.”
Nash told the court he was “very remorseful” and magistrates also heard he was of previous good character.
Magistrates gave him a community order for a year which will involve him carrying out 200 hours of unpaid work.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register for five years and was also placed on a sexual offences prevention order for five years.
The order places restrictions on him including making himself available to police, internet restrictions and allowing officers to monitor his internet search history.
Nash is also not allowed to work with children as a result of his conviction. He was also ordered to pay £85 court costs.
