T wo articles in December's Family Planning Perspectives —both extensively reported in the New York Times and USA Today —might make you think that the nation's teens have just started to indulge in new, dangerous sexual practices that require a forceful response from public health officials. But look closer, and you'll see that the articles are less about health than politics.
Unquestionably, the sexual behavior the two articles depict is profoundly disturbing. One in ten boys aged 15 through 19, for example, has had anal sex with girls. Far more commonplace is oral sex, with teens now viewing it as something, like kissing, that you might do with someone you don't care about much. Many virgins, viewing oral sex as "not really sex," think they're remaining abstinent when they do it. So pervasive among teens has oral sex become, experts warn, that oral herpes and pharyngeal gonorrhea are on the rise. Most troubling is the growing acceptance of this "body-part sex" as early as the seventh grade. Some 12- and 13-year-old girls, it seems, consider fellatio the necessary price of hanging on to a cool boyfriend or looking sophisticated to friends; and, they reason, it removes some of the pressure to go all the way.
Yet neither article tells us much we don't already know. One study, based on data from as far back as 1988 and 1995, shows that the percentage of boys having intercourse or receiving oral sex, while high, has barely changed during those seven years. The second, more timely, study, based on interviews with health professionals about reports of rising oral sex among adolescents, found no consensus: some believe there's more oral sex; some think kids just talk about it more. The one recent behavior shift that is clear is the increase in younger teens practicing oral sex, a development reported in 19 newspaper stories in the past 18 months.
So if there's nothing really new here, why the fuss? The answer reveals itself in one report's title, "Oral Sex Among Adolescents: Is It Sex or Is It Abstinence?" With congressional funding for abstinence-only sex education about to reach its five-year limit, a regrouped public health establishment is here to say: it doesn't work. "What concerns me is what kids don't know. They're not protecting themselves," as Linda Alexander of the American Social Health Association told the Times . The clear implication: to protect kids, educators need to get into the specifics of oral and anal sex and teach kids how to use condoms and dental dams. Sound familiar?
The critics' recommended return to more "enlightened" sex ed isn't a solution; it's a proximate cause of the problem. According to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, the main reason kids cite for avoiding intercourse is fear of pregnancy and STDs. Kids have decided, it appears, that oral sex is a safer alternative. In other words, it is our almost exclusive focus on "risk reduction" and "negative health outcomes" that has helped to mainstream teen oral sex. But if this dehumanized, soulless, loveless, and morally vacuous language is all adults have to offer, is it any surprise that middle schoolers see no problem with body-part sex?

Three teens face charges over the horrific attack in Gulfport, Mississippi, USA, and cops expect more arrests to follow
THREE teenagers are facing kidnapping and sexual assault charges after a video was streamed on Facebook Live appearing to show a woman being beaten and forced to perform oral sex.
The 15-minute, expletive-laden clip starts inside a bathroom, with a man standing over a woman as he demands that she perform oral sex on him, the New York Post reports.
At one point during the footage, a female voice can be heard saying the victim would not be going home until she performed oral sex.
A voice says: “She ain’t going home … until her throat swell up.”
After that, a woman can be seen beating the victim as the others laugh and egg her on, shouting “don’t break it up”.
The original video had been deleted, but not before another Facebook user brought it to the attention of cops, telling them: “This is gut-wrenchingly horrific. It's really, really, bad.”
Cops then responded to the home in Gulfport, Mississippi, USA, late on Tuesday.
Some Facebook users said the victim has special needs, although this has not yet been verified.
Gulfport Police Chief Leonard Papania said those claims would be investigated and said additional charges of abusing a vulnerable adult would be filed if confirmed.
Haleigh Alexis Hudson, 19, surrendered to police late Wednesday on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault.
Two other suspects, Ezzie Johnson and Kadari Fabien Booker, both 17, were arrested hours later on charges of kidnapping and kidnapping and sexual assault, respectively, the Sun Herald reports.
Johnson – who allegedly recorded the sexual and physical assault of the 23-year-old woman at Hudson’s home before posting it online – will be charged as an adult, Papania told reporters during a press conference Wednesday.
Investigators believe Johnson and Hudson knew the victim prior to the alleged assault. Additional arrests are expected, police said.
The video has since been removed from Facebook.
But at least one version of the harrowing clip had been shared more than 1,500 times and garnered more than 84,000 views as of Thursday.
Papania told reporters before Wednesday’s arrests: “Once again, we are witnessing the dark side of social media.
“These warrants demonstrate our belief about these three individuals and their criminal acts.
“However, I can’t help but be disturbed by the incredible number of shares and views of this crude and despicable event … It speaks loudly about our culture.”
And Papania echoed this belief, telling reporters he expects the disturbing pattern to continue.
He said: “I wish people would look at just how warped our society has become.
“We videotape pain and suffering, then we share it and we view it over and over.
“And I don’t doubt this story will be dead in two days and everybody [will] move on to something else and you still have a victim of a crime.”
A version of this story originally appeared on the New York Post .

Each Monday, I publish something called the Breaking Bad Power Rankings . It’s pretty self-explanatory: I rank the show’s characters, from Walt to Skyler to This Guy , by how badass they are. Today, I’m tweaking the formula for an entirely different story , one involving a blowjob at an Eminem concert. Here is: the Humanity Power Rankings.
In last place…oh. THERE’S A TIE. Let’s meet everyone, shall we?
This is one of two pictures of Guy and Girl (names intentionally removed) circulating on the Internet. I can’t show the bottom of it, but it’s still the more SFW photo of the two. ( You can find them here. ) They attended an Eminem concert at Slane Castle in Ireland over the weekend, and while there, they engaged in “public fun.” Or as the Irish would say, she leafed his clover. In front of everyone. At an Eminem concert. That’s important to repeat.
Anyway, Girl’s only 17, the age of legal consent in Ireland, but not in the United States, where the photo has gone massively viral. Looking for a good (read: actually terrible) time? Then search the hashtag “#slanegirl” on Twitter. She’s being called a no-good slut, while he’s “THE MAN,” which brings us to our next contestant.
And Pretty Much Everyone Else Involved
A typical tweet about the incident goes like, “Slane Girl getting sympathy in the papers…What for being a slut?” while “defenders,” so to speak, are replying with, “Nice bit of massive slut-shaming, Twitter. Those using #slanegirl hashtag to bully a young woman should be f*cking embarrassed.” Oh yeah, and now she’s in the hospital.
The pictures went viral after being posted on social networking sites, causing them to even trend around the world on Twitter. But it has since emerged that the girl is understood to be just 17 and, according to reports, she has been so distressed by the online images that she has had to be sedated in hospital. Her family are also said to be distraught. ( Via )
So. What did we learn here? Well: be you guy, girl, or whatever, DON’T DO THIS KIND OF SH*T IN PUBLIC. Guy isn’t a legend and Girl isn’t slut, but I do think they have something in common: they’re both idiots.
