Much like the many tricky-to-navigate facets of being young, the teen movie genre is one of the most intricate ones to get right. Over the years, studios have spawned some of the most iconic teen movies of all time like Mean Girls , LOL (did Miley Cyrus shape anyone else's formative years?), and Booksmart , but flicks that cater to the Gen Z experience are hard to come by. Thankfully, 2022 has provided us with a more accurate representation of teens today — I mean, we finally have some of the best new teen movies dropping that cover a range of topics from grief to navigating first relationships (and queer ones, at that). While it's a small step toward seeing our real lives reflected on-screen, it's still progress.
We don't know about you, but this is by far our favorite movie genre, and lucky for us, we can expect to see a lot of them this year. So whether you are looking to find a new rom-com couple to stan or just looking for an easy way to escape, we've rounded up the 10 best new teen movies of 2022 (well, so far, anyway).
When overachiever Avery's long-distance boyfriend hints at wanting to take their relationship to the next level, she creates a study to get in touch with her sexuality. She enlists the help of her oldest friend, Larson, as a test subject. It results in more than sex education — Avery learns that there’s more to sex and love than mechanics.

Grace VanderWaal will be reprising her role as Stargirl Caraway for the movie's sequel where the beloved character heads to Hollywood. She's set to perform original music for the new movie, which follows Stargirl as she meets aspiring filmmakers and stars in their movie musical.

This list was based on the available data from US-based asset management firm Piper Jaffray’s semi-annual survey on US teens. The survey, “Taking Stock with Teens”, is curated at spring and fall of every year and is intended for the use of companies and business owners looking for what the most profitable businesses are with this demographic as the target market. Every year, the company surveys between 4,000 and 7,000 teenagers across the country from varying household incomes to find out where the bulk of their money goes.

Backed by in-depth research and accompanied by news and analysis, the site features comprehensive rankings drawn from an examination of nearly 3,000 counties and county-equivalents on 89 metrics across 10 categories, informing residents, health care leaders and officials about local policies and practices that drive better health outcomes for all. Data was gathered and analyzed by the University of Missouri Extension Center for Applied Research and Engagement Systems (CARES).

The Highest Teen Birth Rates by State
Teen birth rates continued to fall throughout much of the U.S. in 2020, with 31 states posting declines that fueled an 8% drop nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .
The national teen birth rate of 15.4 births per 1,000 women and girls ages 15 to 19 marked another record low. Since 2009, the rate among teens has hit a new low each year, continuing a decadeslong trend that has seen the overall rate drop by 75% since 1991. Such declines may be due to less sexual activity among teens and more use of birth control among those who are sexually active, according to the CDC .
By state, declines in teen birth rates in 2020 ranged from 5% in Pennsylvania and North Carolina to 19% in Montana . Maine was the only state to see an increase in its teen birth rate, which rose from 9.1 per 1,000 in 2019 to 10.6 per 1,000 in 2020.
Teen birth rate declines occurred across racial and ethnic groups between 2019 and 2020, though disparities remain. The rate fell by 5% among Black teens to 24.4 births per 1,000 in 2020, and dropped by 7% among Hispanic teens to 23.5 per 1,000. The rate among white teens declined by 9% to 10.4 per 1,000.
American Indian or Alaska Native women and girls had the highest teen birth rate among racial or ethnic groups in 2020 at 25.7 births per 1,000, marking a drop of 12% from 2019. The rate among Native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islanders declined by 14% in 2020 to 22.6 per 1,000, while Asian teens had the lowest teen birth rate among racial or ethnic groups at 2.3 births per 1,000 – a 15% decline from 2019.
“Teen childbearing is a matter of public health concern due to the elevated health risks for mothers and their infants and the social and economic costs in terms of health care, child welfare, and the potential loss of the mother’s educational and occupational opportunities,” a 2020 report from the CDC says.

Mississippi’s teen birth rate of 27.9 was essentially unchanged from its rate of 29.1 in 2019, according to CDC researchers.
