Breastfeeding pictures are all the rage, and have been for quite some time. Celebrities started snapping and sharing pictures of themselves getting ready for big events, or laying in bed to feed. Naturally, this sparked some controversy and people have been going out of their way to post more photos of themselves feeding their little ones in an attempt to normalize breastfeeding.
But when it comes to pumping, there's way less representation. Well, up in until recently that is. Her Family claims that pumping pics are the new Breastfeeding Selfie. The last few years have been full of celebrities showing off their pumping equipment and talking about their struggles as a breastfeeding mama. It's all just too relatable.
The fact that images like this spark such controversy and rage truly is mind-boggling. It's completely understandable that people might be a little put off my images of a woman's breast, it truly is. But those that comment negative things on pictures of breastfeeding moms are usually nowhere to be found when Kim Kardashian posts a bare selfie.
All we're saying is, if you're old-fashioned and you feel that a woman's tatas should be kept hidden from the public view, you better stand by that in every situation. Props to these celebrities for showing another beautiful (and sometimes not-so-beautiful) aspect of life as a new mother, regardless of the backlash they know they'll receive.
The Cut deemed this picture to be "The Most Burning Man-Thing To Happen At Burning Man". Interestingly enough, Miki wasn't pumping to save for her baby. S he was pumping for other guests at Burning Man to drink. She uploaded this picture to Instagram afterward, complete with a long caption. Part of the caption read,
"I pumped... every three hours at @burningman and gave away most of my milk. Some people downed a whole four ounces hoping for a hangover cure. Some wanted it for their coffee to make lattes. So many were excited and curious to try it. I drank some too when I ran out of water, it tastes like sweet coconut milk!"
Honestly, ew. I'm all for empowerment and breastfeeding, but there is a line that needs to be drawn. Some STDs can be passed through breastmilk, and it's generally just not safe. I'm sure everything was fine, but that's the type of thing that helps viruses and diseases spread, all because "it's burning man, dude". It sounds like she had a great time, and people who normally wouldn't make such a strange request finally cured their curiosity as to what human breastmilk tastes like.
Olivia Wilde has both a son and a daughter, and she's no stranger to the world of breastfeeding and pumping. In 2014 she received a ton of hate from her followers and fans when she did a photoshoot that featured her breastfeeding her infant son. The whole situation was ridiculous if you ask me. Women felt that by sharing the picture, she was shaming those that have trouble breastfeeding or producing milk.
Look, coming from someone who struggled the entire eight months I breastfed my son and cried while I pumped out an ounce at a time, I can tell you that there's no reason to be upset over a breastfeeding photo shoot that includes the word "natural" in it. If you're offended or hurt by that, you need to look inward.
Oliva Wilde told Yahoo Beauty , "It was an interesting experience because that photo shoot came out of a very organic moment of having to feed my son because it was just my choice to breastfeed. But I did not in any way intend to shame women who had chosen not to breastfeed for whatever reason. It’s a complex issue, but the one thing that’s not complex is that people should be allowed to breastfeed wherever they want, whenever they want .”
It seems people have forgotten about the photo shoot, thank goodness, and now Wilde is free to post pictures of her breastfeeding journey without much hate. She even has a trick for moms who pump: When you run out of storage bags, use a mason jar! Genius, and as CafeMom put it, "Totally Pinterest-Worthy".
Fans absolutely adore Jenny Mollen's parenting adventures. She's an actress and author, but she's undoubtedly social media famous too. She's always candid and honest about her struggles as a parent, and people are eating it up. There's just something about the way she writes that makes moms everywhere feel less alone in their problems.
While she didn't have to supplement her first son, Sid until he was six months old, her second child has proven to be a bit trickier when it comes to getting him to latch on.
She's revealed on her Instagram that she felt super "really sad" and "super rejected" by her youngest son.
“[As of] this weekend, Laz has decided … one feeding, he’ll breastfeed, and then the next feeding he’s just like, ‘F— that, give me a bottle. This morning, I pumped because he seemed to be not hungry, but then the minute I was done pumping, he was ravenous and starving and drank every ounce of the breast milk I pumped. So, it’s almost like he’s playing me.”
This resonated with women everywhere. Many of us have been there, and it's a breath of fresh air to hear that even the talented and beautiful Jenny Mollen knows the same struggles we do.

She's also uploaded pictures of her leaking, jokingly reminding herself to bring nursing pads next time. She's definitely not shy about her breastfeeding duties, and fans love it!
She takes difficult and frustrating situations that all new moms experience, and turns it into something relatable and funny. She posts pictures of her postpartum belly, saying what every mama is thinking,
“The female body is incredible and resilient, but healing and strengthening take time. Now it’s time for patience and hard work. Lots of love to all the new mamas out there on the journey.”
She's truly an inspiring woman, and her kind words don't go unnoticed. Even her fiance is bringing the jokes. He uploaded a picture of their first date night after their bundle of joy was born, with the caption, "Me: "Baby you want some desert?" @petamurgatroyd: "My boobs are filling up. We gotta go" #parents". Those are times I don't miss, but it's refreshing to see that there are others who get it.
Kristin Long is a renowned ballet dancer. If you aren't already aware, becoming a mother as a prima ballerina is pretty taboo. It's just not something that commonly happens. When Kristin was about nineteen years old, she realized that she didn't have a passion for dancing anymore. After years of knowing nothing but the stage, she took some time off to figure out who she is and what she wanted to do with her life.

Her husband took on the bulk of the parenting duties, and he even chimed in on the article, writing, "I made sure Kristin saw him several times a day, so he was spending a lot of time at the ballet. Kai was surrounded by seventy new friends from all over the world. They loved him. They spent time with him. They cared for him. They were so generous with him and loving toward him. He ended up having a pretty extraordinary life."

Country singer, Jessie James Decker has been very vocal about breastfeeding her kids on social media, and we just love it! While doing an interview with pregnant E! News anchor, Carissa Culiner, Decker gave her a funny little piece of advice in regards to breastfeeding.
"I love breastfeeding and you're gonna love it too. And when your nips get really bloody, you know put a little Vaseline, you'll be fine."
That's pretty solid advice. You weep a little, slap some ointment on that sucker, and push through! They're more sensitive during the first few days, but they'll toughen up, and the baby figures out how to latch, and everything works out.
A couple of years ago, fans shamed Decker for posting breastfeeding pictures on social media, to which she responded, "I mean, it's just a boob! I'm just feeding my baby, it's all good, calm down." Whatever it is that ruffles peoples feathers about public breastfeeding doesn't phase Jessie at all.
Jessie recently turned thirty years old, and posted a picture of herself breastfeeding with the caption, "Thanks for all birthday wishes! Never did I imagine I would be celebrating my 30th birthday with my [newborn] on the boob who wanted to feast at that very moment lol.”
Pink is known for posting pictures of herself pumping on Instagram. Just six months ago she posted a picture of her pumping while holding a bottle of wine with the caption, "When you're almost done pumping and you know what's next". Innocent enough, when you understand that alcohol leaves your breastmilk at the same rate it leaves your bloodstream.
Of course, not everyone understands this, and Pink received a great number of negative comments from judgmental moms and non-moms alike. Thankfully, some other pumping mamas out there completely understood and backed her up.
There's no reason to pump and dump or skip feedings to enjoy a glass of wine. You don't want to go drinking the whole bottle and immediately feed your baby, but a glass won't hurt you, especially when you're a pumper who works on a schedule.
That photo was posted about three months before the picture shown above. Clearly, the haters didn't dim her shine when it comes to posting photos of herself pumping, though this time there was no mention of alcohol. That's probably for the best anyway. One funny wine joke is enough, unless you want fans questioning the amount that you drink.
The former Victoria's Secret Angel supermodel posted the picture shown above to her Instagram with the caption, "Daily routine! I'm promoting breastfeeding. It's the best for your baby when possible! #breastfeeding #breastpump #breastfeedingmom #breastfeedingawareness."
You got to love the fact that she's so straightforward. Yes, she is indeed promoting breastfeeding. And it is best when possible. Whether people want to see it in their feeds, or at the supermarket doesn't change the fact that it's natural, and it's the best option out there. That's not to shame formula-feeding moms. Again, been there, done that.
It's interesting that pictures like this cause fans to comment about how inappropriate or unnecessary it is, yet those same people don't hop on Twitter to shame actresses who post pictures in skimpy dresses. As I've mentioned above, I can understand why people feel like this is an intimate experience that's best shared between family only. But if you feel that way, it's pretty lame to pick and choose who and when that rule applies.
If you ask me, there are few things on this planet that are more beautiful and raw than a good breastfeeding or pumping picture. And for heaven's sake, most of her breast is covered. You can see a better view in her old runway shows for crying out loud.
Only Kristin Cavallari could look that glamorous while pumping breastmilk. I mean, it's really not even fair. But hey, that's Hollywood for you. The former reality star shared this picture on Instagram 2 years ago, with the caption, "The glamorous side of the #BalancinginHeels #BookTour".
Really, she's a trooper in my eyes simply for using a single pump. I can't quite understand why she would, other than to save space I suppose. No one else noticed that, though. The comments were mostly supportive, but there were a few that were less than pleasant.
Writer Kimberly Zappata put it perfectly, "Mons can pretend breastfeeding and pumping doesn't happen, or they can try to cover their breasts with blankets and clothes. They can also try to relegate "feedings" to private rooms, with some employers trying to force mothers to pump in bathrooms (something Cavallari experienced herself, just three months ago). And mothers can perpetuate the believe that breasts are sexual objects. Or, everyone — mothers and people who aren't mothers — can look at photos like Cavallari's and see it for what it is: it is a photo of a woman and a mother working hard to care for, feed, and "raise her baby right." She's raising her child as she sees fit."
I couldn't have said it better myself! It's nice to know that times are changing, and negative comments are decreasing all the time.
Yup, it's Jenny Mollen again! The breastfeeding advocate posted a series of hilarious pictures while pumping in an airplane bathroom last Fall. The caption read, "Remember that Kelis song, 'My milkshake brings all the boys to the lavatory'?" She even snapped a few seductive photos with text overlays that read things like, "It's getting super sexy in this airplane bathroom," and "Let's makeout".
As usual, fans were quick to criticize, posting comments about how she was seeking attention and doing it for the likes. Well, I can't really say I disagree with that, but I'm still happy with the posts overall. They're funny! What's wrong with having a sense of humor about a bad situation? She's on a plane. In the middle of the flight. In the bathroom. Pumping milk. Taking "sexy" selfies. It's hilarious!
Once again, the haters didn't stop her from continuing on her merrily pumping way, and she's posted similar pictures since then. Something tells me nothing will keep Mollen from sharing mom truth bombs and relatable pumping pics. She'll keep on doing what she feels is right for her family no matter what negative people have to say about it, and that's definitely something to admire.
Jessie James Decker, back at it with another glamorous pumping session pic. Some women look good no matter what. I'm sure the internet would be much less forgiving if I uploaded a picture of what I look like while pumping, because it is far from pretty.
Still, it's nice to feel a sense of camaraderie between fellow mamas who understand the struggle. This picture was taken after she and her husband, Eric welcomed their second baby.
Even better still, she later shared a makeup-free selfie of her postpartum body, showing off her new battle wound from having a c-section. According to The Hollywood Gossip , fans were quick to judge her for "showing off" her thin frame so soon after having her baby. You really can't win, huh? If she had the average American woman's postpartum body, she would be celebrated, but because she's worked hard for a slim physique, she doesn't count, right?
Because of the controversy surrounding her Instagram pictures, Decker spoke out, saying, "I didn't want to make women feel bad," Decker said in defense of her Instagram photos. "We're all in this together. It's hard being a mom, and we need to support each other instead of bash[ing] each other." She even told Fox News that she wears spanx to cover her "jiggly bits". You don't need to explain yourself girl, keep on rocking it!
Mrs. United States, Katie Garza has delivered all three of her daughters prematurely, and after struggling with breastfeeding twice, she decided to start a nonprofit organization called Pumping For Preemies . She was formerly Mrs. Texas, and took to competing for Mrs. United States to increase the visibility of her nonprofit.
Katie didn't know about donating breastmilk until after her second child. Her first two attempts were unsuccessful, and she wanted to make sure other new moms didn't have to go through the heartbreak of not being able to provide their babies with breastmilk.
She told Best For Babes , “There’s something that was really life-giving to me a few weeks after having Aubrey. Knowing I had extra colostrum and milk that I could do something with, recalling how I wished I could have given it to Phoenix and Gracie when they were in the NICU, knowing I could help other babies that were like my baby — it made me feel like I was putting on a superhero cape!”
