The first time Emma Carey wet her pants, she was incredibly embarrassed, refusing to leave the house in fears people would find out.
The 25-year-old is known as ‘the girl who fell from the sky’ after a horrific skydiving accident in 2013 left her paralysed from a severe spinal cord injury.
After years of surgery and physiotherapy, Emma has made a miraculous recovery and despite the odds, is able to walk again – something she’s been blogging about in the years since her accident.

However, Emma still lives with a number of lasting effects from her injury, one of which is being, “completely incontinent with both my bladder and bowels.”
Having overcome the shame she used to feel about it, Emma recently shared a photo of her daily experience living with incontinence to her Instagram page, where she’s being widely praised.
“My bladder can only hold 100ml before it leaks. That’s less than half a cup of liquid, so as you can probably imagine this means I am peeing myself literally non-stop.”

She went on to spread an empowering message to help others overcome their ‘flaws’ by encouraging them to stop worrying about what people think of them.
“Just because we have grown up to believe that certain things are taboo or shouldn’t be spoken about, doesn’t mean that they are. Just because people think you should feel embarrassed about something, doesn’t mean you need to. Just because people might judge you on a certain thing, doesn’t mean you need to care,” She prompted.
Since the accident, Emma has become a beacon of hope, passionate about raising awareness about the effects of spinal cord injuries and other disabilities along with helping others cope with them.

I didn't even know it was happening. It took a few moments, and then it dawned on me that I was peeing my pants.
I could stop jumping on the gigantic trampoline that my daughter and I were on.
As soon as I realized I'd peed myself, I became thankful of two things very quickly.
One: That my accident was not a full emptying of my bladder. Two: That this field trip was outside and almost over.
Anyone who has had fluid exit their body at an unwanted time knows you can do a lot with toilet paper. Getting to the toilet paper is another matter completely.
I tried to hide what had happened. I really did try to keep it from my daughter.
But, after a round of negotiations which would make the best prosecuting attorney proud, I finally convinced my daughter we needed to leave the biggest trampoline she had ever seen because...
Which she agreed, was serious business. Enough so that she took my hand the whole way and said, "it's okay mommy. I'll help you."
I refused to freak out or be embarrassed in front of my daughter.
I was VERY aware of her questions and how I answered them because, as my mom would put it, this was a teaching moment.
She followed me to the portable restroom.
"Yes, honey. Mommy had an oopsie and I just need a few minutes to take care of it."
"I'm going to get cleaned up and go back so you can keep jumping on the trampoline!"
I showed my daughter a skill every menstruating person, I'm sure, has come to use at some point: how to make a panty liner out of toilet paper.
This life lesson came much earlier that I had planned.
Afterward, we used the foot-pump hand washing station then passed some goats and an over-sized chair on our way back to the trampoline.
My daughter invited me to join her again, and I said I would love to watch her bounce this time.
She showed me all the big jumps she could.
I stood wide-legged, trying to strike some sort of balance between letting air reach the crotch and seeming not to care that my pants were wet.
And I thought about all the kegels and squats I didn't do. And all the pelvic floor papers I've read looking for resources for my clients.
I just talked with a fellow doula about a physical therapist she recommends specifically for postpartum women needing to strengthen their pelvic floor muscles after child birth.
And even with all that information, reading about strengthening my pelvic floor did very little to actually improve its tone. Go figure. I have to do the work to get the result I want ...a lesson my business mentor has shared repeatedly.

TikTok users are urinating on themselves as part of the revolting 'Pee Your Pants Challenge,' and while it allegedly started as a joke, it quickly became the latest trend to go viral on the platform.
The disgusting videos show people (mostly guys) standing in front of their bathroom mirrors fully dressed as they proudly wet themselves — all while catching the entire thing on camera.
Liam Weyer, 19, from Kansas, started the challenge on April 21 when he posted footage of himself peeing his pants and aptly dubbed it the #peeyourpantschallenge.

Whoops! The teen claims he filmed the video as a parody of other 'pointless' challenges and was surprised that it started to trend
In the clip, he is wearing a T-shirt and shorts as he looks in the mirror and says, 'Pee your pants challenge.'
Viewers can then hear his stream of urine hitting the floor as a wet spot forms on his shorts.
The video has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, though Liam had to repost the clip after TikTok removed the original.
Many people were appalled by the footage, with some blaming the coronavirus pandemic for leading to such a gross challenge.
'I refuse to believe this video exists,' one person commented, while another added: 'People seriously need to get back to work soon...everyone has gone insane.'

'This lockdown is making people even more insane,' someone else agreed.
While it's undoubtedly disgusting, Liam inadvertently inspired others to take part in the challenge, though he insists the video was meant to be a spoof.
'I am definitely surprised that the challenge actually became a trend,' Liam told Insider via email. 'I created the challenge as a parody of the other challenges that have gone viral on the internet in an attempt to show how pointless they are.
'I am surprised to see that people on the internet will pee themselves if you call it a challenge and add a hashtag.'
While Liam never intended on people following his lead, many have. The #peeyourpantschallenge hashtag that he started has more than 3.3 million views.

Most of the clip show participants saying 'pee your pants challenge' before peeing their pants — just like Liam did.

Plenty of people have also used the hashtag to share their disgust regarding the challenge or to post gags where they pretend they're going pee their pants before changing their minds.
The new challenge is almost as sickening as the toilet-licking challenge that took place in mid-March amid the coronavirus pandemic, prompting a fierce backlash from horrified critics.
