Teen Girl Lactating
FAMILY TORN APART Dad's heartbreak as daughter, 9, is diagnosed with incurable brain tumour just five years after pregnant wife dropped dead at home
TERRIBLE TWOS Toddler's tantrums and 'wobbly dancing' with his twin brother are actually the first signs of an aggressive brain tumour
'HE WAS AN ANGEL ON EARTH' Mum's agony as son, two, dies just days after being diagnosed with a brain tumour
BRAIN TUMOUR tragedy Mum thought son, five, needed glasses but eyesight problems were caused by brain tumour
Jessica Buck was diagnosed with prolactinoma, a benign brain tumour that causes the body to produce too much of the breast milk hormone, prolactin
A TEENAGER who thought she was pregnant when her breasts started leaking milk was actually suffering from a brain tumour.
Jessica Buck was just 18 when she was diagnosed with prolactinoma , a benign tumour found inside the brain that causes the body to produce too much of the breast milk hormone, prolactin.
The tumour affects the pituitary gland found at the base of the brain, which controls levels of several hormones in the body.
Jessica had just started sixth form when she began experiencing symptoms including exhaustion, dizziness and headaches.
But the most worrying symptom for Jessica, now 24, of Carterton, Oxfordshire, was the milky fluid that leaked from her breasts every few days.
She said: “I had to put tissue in my bra.
“I was working part time as a retail assistant and kept going to the bathroom, realising that my bra was damp.
“There was white, milky fluid coming from my breasts. I thought that was something that only happened to pregnant women.
“I started to put cotton wool pads or tissues inside my bra, which was embarrassing, as I was constantly trying to hide it.
“I spoke to my mum and asked, ‘Is this normal?’.
“She sent me straight to the doctor.
When blood tests were inconclusive she was sent for an MRI scan at Churchill Hospital, Oxford, which revealed a non-cancerous pea-sized tumour on her pituitary gland.
Jessica said: “When I heard the words brain and tumour in the same sentence, I barely listened to anything else.
“I was thinking about something much more sinister, so I did get quite upset.
“I was with my mum and she was just as shocked.
“We got home and talked about it and started to do some research.”
The tumour meant her pituitary gland wasn’t functioning properly and was producing too much prolactin, the hormone which stimulates milk production after childbirth.
Jessica was told that her options were either to have surgery, or to take medication to control her symptoms and reduce the size of the tumour.
Reluctant to have brain surgery, Jess decided to try medication first.
She was prescribed Cabergoline, which blocks prolactin secretion from the pituitary gland, and her symptoms became more controlled.
Now, she still experiences some symptoms – such as headaches and nausea – but much less than before her diagnosis.
Three years after she began her treatment Jessica was taken off the tablets.
But her symptoms came back and the tumour began to grow again , so she decided to resume the treatment.
Although Jessica now feels like her condition is under control, she does worry about what it will mean in the future.
She said: “A few months after the diagnosis, I was told that prolactinoma can cause fertility problems.
“I was so young when I was diagnosed that babies weren’t really on my radar, but I have always wanted to be a mum.
“It is something that is so important to me.
“I was told that we would cross that bridge when we came to it.
“I have looked online and lots of people have said that they have the condition and have gone on to have kids, which is great.”
Prolactinoma is a condition in which a non-cancerous tumour of the pituitary gland overproduces the hormone prolactin.
The major effect of the tumour is decreased sex hormones - oestrogen in women and progesterone in men.
It is not a life-threatening condition but can cause vision problems and infertility.
There may be no noticeable signs or symptoms but if there are they are caused by an excess of prolactin in the blood.
It can also cause loss of interest in sexual activity, headaches, vision problems, infertility and low bone density in both men and women.
The cause of the tumour is not known.
The pituitary gland is a small bean-shaped gland situated at the base of your brain.
Despite its small size, the pituitary gland influences nearly every part of your body.
Its hormones help regulate important functions such as growth, blood pressure and reproduction.
The aim of treatment is to restore normal prolactin levels in the blood.
Oral medications may be used to decrease the production of the hormone and shrink the tumour.
Surgery to remove the tumour is also an option if medication doesn't work.
Jessica worries that if she was pregnant she would have to stop her medication again and would become ill throughout her pregnancy.
She added: “There are different medications that aren’t as effective, but I would really have to work with my team and have a plan in place before trying to get pregnant.”
For now, Jessica is determined not to let her condition get her down and to make the most of life.
Last year, she even gave up her job as an estate agent to travel the world.
“I quit my job last summer and I haven’t looked back,” she said.
“I went to the US for a month by myself and did all sorts of high energy stuff like white water rafting in Colorado, flying in a helicopter over the Grand Canyon and speed boating in Miami.
“There was the odd day when I didn’t feel great, but the adrenaline got me through it.
“I have been around Europe this year and I just make sure I am home when I have an important appointment.
“I write about it for my blog and I’m determined to have visited 25 countries before I turn 25 in January.”
Jessica has recently become an ambassador for the Pituitary Foundation, which is a national support and information organisation for pituitary patients, their families, friends and carers.
They are the UK’s leading charity providing support to people affected by disorders of the pituitary gland.
This October, Jessica plans to turn her town orange for Pituitary Awareness month to raise as much money as possible.

In Which A Woman Lets Her Date Drink Her Milk

"I was an unseasoned single mom… I was curious… I wanted to know what it felt like to have a man drink my milk." -From a piece in which a new mother breast-feeds her date.
Specifically, it's a excerpt from Unbuttoned: Women Open Up About the Pleasures, Pains, and Politics of Breastfeeding , and Rachel Sarah explains how she went from nursing her daughter to letting her blind date suckle. She writes:
My breasts had always been one of the most sensual parts of me. Before motherhood, when a man put his lips around my nipple, it made my body rain — not a light sprinkle, either. If I slept with a man as a nursing mom, my breasts would rain on him.
And yet, at the urging of a friend, Sarah went on a blind date with a lawyer. She was late, and explained that it was because she'd been nursing. Her date found this exciting:
"A woman who's lactating!" he said, way too loudly. "What a turn-on!"
Instead of running away, Sarah took the guy home.
As my daughter slept in the other room, I let him unbutton my blouse and run his mouth across the edge of my bra. I let him touch me. When I started to leak, he was ecstatic. He told me that he'd never tasted anything so sweet in his life.

While men drinking breast milk is certainly not new — surely it must have been attempted since the dawn of time — the idea of it does seem to fall squarely on the line between appealing and unappealing. It's easy to be squicked out by thinking about a man being "babied." Infantilization and sex are an odd combination, to many. On the other hand, should nipples be off-limits during sex just because a woman is nursing? And what about the new mother's feelings? Perhaps it seems more strange because the man in this story was a blind date and not Sarah's boyfriend, husband, or father of her child. But people who barely know each other have sex and exchange bodily fluids all the time. As for Sarah, she concludes:
But this is what mattered most: He wanted me as I was, and I didn't have to hide any of it.

Someone has to shut down the nay-sayers.
Breastfeeding pictures are all the rage, and have been for quite some time. Celebrities started snapping and sharing pictures of themselves getting ready for big events, or laying in bed to feed. Naturally, this sparked some controversy and people have been going out of their way to post more photos of themselves feeding their little ones in an attempt to normalize breastfeeding.
But when it comes to pumping, there's way less representation. Well, up in until recently that is. Her Family claims that pumping pics are the new Breastfeeding Selfie. The last few years have been full of celebrities showing off their pumping equipment and talking about their struggles as a breastfeeding mama. It's all just too relatable.
The fact that images like this spark such controversy and rage truly is mind-boggling. It's completely understandable that people might be a little put off my images of a woman's breast, it truly is. But those that comment negative things on pictures of breastfeeding moms are usually nowhere to be found when Kim Kardashian posts a bare selfie.
All we're saying is, if you're old-fashioned and you feel that a woman's tatas should be kept hidden from the public view, you better stand by that in every situation. Props to these celebrities for showing another beautiful (and sometimes not-so-beautiful) aspect of life as a new mother, regardless of the backlash they know they'll receive.
The Cut deemed this picture to be "The Most Burning Man-Thing To Happen At Burning Man". Interestingly enough, Miki wasn't pumping to save for her baby. S he was pumping for other guests at Burning Man to drink. She uploaded this picture to Instagram afterward, complete with a long caption. Part of the caption read,
"I pumped... every three hours at @burningman and gave away most of my milk. Some people downed a whole four ounces hoping for a hangover cure. Some wanted it for their coffee to make lattes. So many were excited and curious to try it. I drank some too when I ran out of water, it tastes like sweet coconut milk!"
Honestly, ew. I'm all for empowerment and breastfeeding, but there is a line that needs to be drawn. Some STDs can be passed through breastmilk, and it's generally just not safe. I'm sure everything was fine, but that's the type of thing that helps viruses and diseases spread, all because "it's burning man, dude". It sounds like she had a great time, and people who normally wouldn't make such a strange request finally cured their curiosity as to what human breastmilk tastes like.
Olivia Wilde has both a son and a daughter, and she's no stranger to the world of breastfeeding and pumping. In 2014 she received a ton of hate from her followers and fans when she did a photoshoot that featured her breastfeeding her infant son. The whole situation was ridiculous if you ask me. Women felt that by sharing the picture, she was shaming those that have trouble breastfeeding or producing milk.
Look, coming from someone who struggled the entire eight months I breastfed my son and cried while I pumped out an ounce at a time, I can tell you that there's no reason to be upset over a breastfeeding photo shoot that includes the word "natural" in it. If you're offended or hurt by that, you need to look inward.
Oliva Wilde told Yahoo Beauty , "It was an interesting experience because that photo shoot came out of a very organic moment of having to feed my son because it was just my choice to breastfeed. But I did not in any way intend to shame women who had chosen not to breastfeed for whatever reason. It’s a complex issue, but the one thing that’s not complex is that people should be allowed to breastfeed wherever they want, whenever they want .”
It seems people have forgotten about the photo shoot, thank goodness, and now Wilde is free to post pictures of her breastfeeding journey without much hate. She even has a trick for moms who pump: When you run out of storage bags, use a mason jar! Genius, and as CafeMom put it, "Totally Pinterest-Worthy".
Fans absolutely adore Jenny Mollen's parenting adventures. She's an actress and author, but she's undoubtedly social media famous too. She's always candid and honest about her struggles as a parent, and people are eating it up. There's just something about the way she writes that makes moms everywhere feel less alone in their problems.
While she didn't have to supplement her first son, Sid until he was six months old, her second child has proven to be a bit trickier when it comes to getting him to latch on.
She's revealed on her Instagram that she felt super "really sad" and "super rejected" by her youngest son.
“[As of] this weekend, Laz has decided … one feeding, he’ll breastfeed, and then the next feeding he’s just like, ‘F— that, give me a bottle. This morning, I pumped because he seemed to be not hungry, but then the minute I was done pumping, he was ravenous and starving and drank every ounce of the breast milk I pumped. So, it’s almost like he’s playing me.”
This resonated with women everywhere. Many of us have been there, and it's a breath of fresh air to hear that even the talented and beautiful Jenny Mollen knows the same struggles we do.
Kourtney gets a lot of hate because well, she's a Kardashian. They don't have the best track records when it comes to saying the right things or appearing to be genuine people. But there's one thing you can always say about Kourtney: She's a pretty good mom. She's actually pretty crunchy too.
She has breastfed all of her children, and even breastfed her son Mason until he was fourteen months old. Having lasted sixteen months with her daughter, she's no stranger to the world of a pumping mama!
We've all heard just how difficult it is to breastfeed. But once you do it, you know that she deserves major props for this. Not only because she's a celebrity juggling motherhood, but because she's absolutely rocked her role as a mother. Both pumping and breastfeeding take a ton of patience, sacrifice, and dedication.
She's even written about her experiences breastfeeding on her blog. She says she started to get asked questions all the time about when she planned on weaning , but she let it continue on until it felt right for her and her babies. In the comments section, she wrote,
"People always have something to say about how long is too long or not long enough to breastfeed. I think this is such a personal decision that it can only be made between each baby and his or her mommy. As for me, I take my cues from Mason and together we’ll take it from there!"
Peta uploaded this picture to Instagram along with the caption, "Multitasking mum duties. Can't stop the pump. I'm working on an exciting new project that I can't wait to share with you soon! ❤."
She's also uploaded pictures of her leaking, jokingly reminding herself to bring nursing pads next time. She's definitely not shy about her breastfeeding duties, and fans love it!
She takes difficult and frustrating situations that all new moms experience, and turns it into something relatable and funny. She posts pictures of her postpartum belly, saying what every mama is thinking,
“The female body is incredible and resilient, but healing and strengthening take time. Now it’s time for patience and hard work. Lots of love to all the new mamas out there on the journey.”
She's truly an inspiring woman, and her kind words don't go unnoticed. Even her fiance is bringing the jokes. He uploaded a picture of their first date night after their bundle of joy was born, with the caption, "Me: "Baby you want some desert?" @petamurgatroyd: "My boobs are filling up. We gotta go" #parents". Those are times I d
