A 16-year-old missing New Jersey girl who was found in the basement of a Massachusetts home told police she was held against her will, raped several times, had her hair shaved off and burned with a cigarette, according to testimony at a Wednesday hearing.
Auburn police Officer George Vranos said the teenage girl, believed to be a runaway, was found on Dec. 27 inside a room that he described as a “torture chamber.”
He said she was crying when they discovered her and when police asked her to remove a knit hat she was wearing. After seeing a bag full of hair near her, they saw her head had been shaved.
“She was looking at the floor whimpering,” Vranos testified during a dangerousness hearing at Worcester Central District Court, according to Mass Live .
“Her hair was in a Christmas bag," Auburn Detective Eric Dyson said, according to the Boston Herald .
Around the teen, officers also found cigarettes, duct tape with hair, an iron and a pot of water.

Krystal Lugo, 23, of Webster, is charged with kidnapping, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery and larceny under $250; Christopher Lugo, 19, is charged with kidnapping, rape and drugging to confine; Torres-Abee, 22, of Southbridge, is charged with kidnapping and assault and battery; Yuleny Ortiz, 19, of Auburn, is charged with kidnapping.
According to prosecutors, the teenager was picked up in nearby Leominster on Christmas Day and taken to Auburn by Krystal Lugo and Ortiz, where she stayed for two days.
The teenager told police she was given a marijuana cigarette laced with Xanax and was then sexually assaulted several times by different people. Police said they found several used condoms in various areas of the house, the Telegram reported.
However, it seems that an alleged home invasion the morning of Dec. 27 is what triggered the four to hold the teenager in the “torture chamber,” prosecutors said.
Two armed men allegedly rushed into the Auburn home around 6 a.m. that morning, demanding marijuana, pistol whipping Christopher Lugo and firing two shots into the ceiling, police said.

Krystal Lugo, the mother of an 18-month-old child, allegedly accused the victim of working with the two men. She allegedly took the victim outside without shoes on to fight with her; it only ended after Christopher Lugo warned that neighbors were watching.
She “turned on the victim, blaming her for setting them up, for orchestrating the home invasion,” District Attorney Tara Nechev said, according to The Boston Herald.
It was then that she was taken to the basement, where the victim was tied to a chair with duct tape. The assailants allegedly placed a machete at her throat while she was interrogated about the people involved in the home invasion.
The home invasion is still under investigation.
Krystal Lugo, who shook her head in denial as prosecutors discusses the allegations during Wednesday’s hearing, has a long history with police. Officers had been called to the Auburn location 144 times since 2003, prosecutors said.
She was held without bail, despite her attorney arguing she was not a danger. She's set to return to court on Jan. 31.
The dangerousness hearings for three male defendants was set to continue until Friday.

Disturbing new video shows the moment an Australian police department employee corners a 13-year-old girl in an elevator and gropes her as she frantically attempts to get away.
Glenn Roche, 54, who was found guilty of indecent assault this week, is seen in the footage chasing the youngster into the elevator after a day out with her family, the New Zealand Herald reported on Thursday.
Roche seems to be playfully chasing the girl but then the sicko grabs her, fondles her and tries to kiss her while she tries to wrestle free, the footage posted by TVNZ-TV shows.
The girl later told authorities that she still suffers nightmares from the harrowing July 2019 assault, according to the Herald.
But Roche told the judge he was just playing around and claimed there was “no sexual gratification on my behalf.”
“My hands have slid up her body as she slid to the ground,” the sicko told police. “My mind has gone off on a tangent like this is a challenge to me. I can get her and give her a kiss on the cheek like her two sisters and mum.”
“She contributed to that occurring by releasing her body weight and sliding through my hands,” he said, blaming his tiny victim.
Police said Roche had been out with the girl’s mom and siblings. It is unclear what his relationship to the girl and her family was.
The judge wasn’t buying his excuse, however, and found Roche guilty.
He was also suspended from the police department, where he worked as a civilian employee, according to the reports.

(CBS) FT. LAUDERDALE - Two of the five individuals implicated in the brutal beating and rape of a 16-year old girl in Hollywood, Fla. appeared in court Monday and were ordered held without bond, reports CBS Los Angeles.
Lanel Singleton, 18, and Jayvon Woolfork, 19, are both charged with false imprisonment and sexual battery of a minor.
A 17-year-old male, a 16-year-old female and a 17-year-old female are also facing charges in the investigation, reports the station. Their identities are not being released due to their ages.
The 16-year-old alleged victim reportedly says she was with one of the teen girls at a Hollywood residence last Friday when Singleton, Woolfork and another teen came from a different room in the residence and told her, "You have to have sex with 'Jay' or we are going to beat you."
When the girl refused, she told investigators all four began to beat her, saying they wouldn't stop until she agreed to have sex with Woolfork, reports the station.
When she continued to refuse, the girl said they dragged her by the hair out into the backyard, pushed her down a set of stairs, smashed her head into a concrete floor and then dragged her back inside to a bedroom, according to the station.
The teen reportedly said all four then pulled off her clothes and three of them held her down while Woolfork sexually battered her for five to ten minutes. They then allegedly let her go.
The teen told police she ran to her grandmother's house which was nearby, reports the station.
People who live in that neighborhood told CBS Los Angeles they are stunned at the allegations.
"It's very disturbing I didn't expect this I knew there were things going on in there that weren't too kosher but this was very surprising and upsetting of course," said Kathy Wasconis.
According to probable cause affidavits, the girls implicated in the case admitted to battering the girl but denied that she was sexually battered or that her clothing was forcibly removed.
The station reports investigators later learned the attack was captured on one of the teen girl's cell phone and seized it as evidence. One of the videos on the phone reportedly shows the victim being repeatedly punched and kicked and told the beating would only stop if she would agree to have sex with "Jay." Singleton allegedly admitted to taking the video, reports the station.
On the video, the girl was visibly stripped of her clothes and then she told the group she would do what they wanted if they would stop hitting her.
Singleton reportedly said the girl only agreed to have sex because she felt physically threatened, according to the police report. He also denied being present when she was sexually battered.
