The Strathroy high school student mauled to death by three dogs is a longtime family friend of the animals’ owner, the owner’s sister said Monday as loved ones mourned her death.
Megan Fisher, 17, was killed when three dogs, described by police only as “large-breed” dogs, mauled her last week at a home near Muncey, a rural area southwest of London. It happened at a home owned by Andrew Littleton, property records indicate.

The homeowner’s sister, Karen Littleton, told The Free Press Monday that Fisher was a longtime family friend of Andrew Littleton and his family. 
Karen Littleton said the family was asking for “privacy and respect while we mourn the loss of our Megan.”
She said the family will speak when they are ready.
“We’re family, we’re trying to keep it all together,” Littleton wrote in an exchange over social media. “It’s both sides asking for privacy and we are all related. This is hard for us. She wasn’t a stranger.” 
Littleton said the dogs involved, which have been seized by authorities, are not pit bulls. 
Details are few, but Ontario Provincial Police have said officers were called to the rural property at 6422 Gentleman Dr., close to Muncey, at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report of a death. Police said Fisher lived in the nearby First Nation community of Chippewas of the Thames. 
According to her online obituary, Fisher “loved drawing, painting and bead working, cared deeply about animals of any kind, and had different kinds of pets.”
“With her warm, caring, yet quirky personality, Megan touched the lives of her many friends and classmates,” it read.
Stephanie Hambides, principal of Strathroy District Collegiate Institute, said it was “with great sadness” the school learned of Fisher’s death.
“A proud member of Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Meg loved to learn and will be remembered by those who knew her as a very kind and caring person who always put others first and openly expressed her love for her family, friends and teachers,” she said.
Members of Thames Valley District school board’s traumatic events response team will be available at the school this week to support students and staff, Hambides said.
Fisher is survived by her parents Bill and Joanne Fisher and her brother Wesley, as well as half-siblings and other relatives.
Interment is to take place at a later date, the obituary said.
The three dogs were being held under a public health order. Middlesex OPP have not said what will happen to the dogs.
Police have said the investigation is ongoing.
Fatal dog attacks are rare in Canada, averaging between one and two a year, according to a 2008 study that used media reports to track the incidents. 
Most recently, a 38-year-old woman was killed by her dog while walking it on June 9, 2020, in Nova Scotia’s Musquodoboit Valley.
