A WOMAN faces life in prison after allegedly coaxing multiple underage teenage boys out of school to have sex with them - sometimes filming the affairs.
Amanda Katherine Steele was arrested by authorities after her husband told police that he caught her in the family hot tub with a teenage boy.
It was after the couple's divorce that Steele’s ex-husband contacted deputies in July 2019 saying Steele admitted to him she had sex with the underage boys.
He then apparently informed investigators that in an earlier interview, he was more concerned about saving their marriage than telling them the truth.
The East Idaho News reports the woman from the town of Soda Springs has now opted to take her case to a jury after she pleaded not guilty to sex crimes involving multiple teenagers.
Ms.Steele appeared in a Butte County District Court for her arraignment on three felony counts of child sexual battery committed by lewd conduct following an investigation that began in 2017.
The paper says law enforcement’s investigation led to multiple teenage boys saying they engaged in sexual activity with Steele in 2016 with one encounter allegedly recorded on camera.
Although the victims considered the sexual conduct consensual, prosecutors charged Steele because, under Idaho law, a minor who is 16 and 17 cannot consent to sex with adults five or more years older than them.
The investigation stalled in the spring of 2018 with the reported victims, Steele and others not giving specific answers during interviews, the paper revealed.
Investigators spoke with one of the teenagers again in 2019, and he then allegedly admitted to having sex with Steele while underage.
One said he used a GoPro camera to record one of the sexual encounters, but the computer with the file was destroyed.
He told investigators he would skip school and Latter-day Saint seminary and go to Steele’s home to have sex.
“(The victim) told me he knew several of his friends had sex with her too but didn’t know anyone else besides (a second victim) had been under 18,” a deputy wrote in his report.
The Butte County Sheriff’s office began investigating when Steele’s father-in-law contacted deputies in late 2017 after hearing rumors that a group of boys would hang out with his daughter-in-law at her home in Butte County.
Deputies spoke with the victims and they remained vague about their relationships with Steele, the probable cause statement states.
One teenager said he didn’t want to press charges against Steele saying he “didn’t think it was a big deal.”
He also said he was a willing participant in the sexual activity.
The paper said when detectives spoke with Steele in April 2018, they said she told them several teenage boys came over but she would not give names.
When deputies asked about engaging in inappropriate activities, she said, “I don’t really want to talk about it until I have to,” according to court documents.
They said a deputy wrote in his report that Steele told him situations arose that “could lead someone to engage in sexual activity with an underage boy,” but she would not elaborate.
She also said others were dealing with the same thing, but would not give names, saying it would affect an entire community.

In July 2019, the paper reports Steele’s ex-husband contacted deputies about the allegations again.
He had been present during the April 2018 interview and said he knew a lot about the alleged sexual activities.
He said Steele admitted to engaging in sex with the underage boys.
It is claimed that the former husband told investigators that he came home one day to find her and one of the victims getting close in the hot tub.
When he tried stopping the activity, he claims Steele became upset and would “tell him he’s being ridiculous.”
Since Steele moved to Soda Springs by the time of her arrest in November 2019, Caribou County deputies booked her into their jail on a warrant and posted the $50,000 bond.
A jury trial for Steele is set to begin June 10 in Butte County.
If she is convicted, each charge holds a maximum sentence of life in prison, the paper reports.

The boy's mum found messages on his phone and reported Jordan Lightfoot to police
A YOUNG mum who had sex with a 13-year-old boy has walked free from court after being told by the judge to stop inviting “teenage lads around for parties”.
A court heard Jordan Lightfoot, 21, had sex with the virgin schoolboy on the kitchen floor at her home in Rhyl, North Wales, in 2016.
The youngster’s stunned mum found text messages on his phone and contacted police about Lightfoot’s behaviour.
She denied sexual activity with the boy and also pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of touching a 15-year-old boy and inciting him to engage in sexual activity.
But she was convicted earlier this month and Judge David Hale imposed an 18-month jail sentence, suspended for two years, at Mold Crown Court.
Jo Maxwell, prosecuting, said text messages between Lightfoot and the 13 -year-old “made it obvious she was in control of the relationship".
Simon Killeen, defending, said the offences happened in a short period of time “when she was an immature teenager.”
Judge Hale, passing sentence, said it happened during a troubled period of her life when she was living on her own.
He said: “You became involved with a group of lads, people who were prepared to befriend you, and you were prepared to befriend them.
“On these two occasions you engaged in a brief sexual relationship with both of them.
“There is a disparity of age, they were vulnerable because they were even less equipped than you to deal with the emotional relationships involved. I accept you were immature.”
He told her: "No teenage lads around for parties or anything like that.”
Lightfoot is now banned from contacting boys aged between 11 and 16 unless inadvertent or with consent of parents who know about her conviction.
The mum-of-one was also ordered to carry out 50 days of rehabilitation activity and a five-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was made.
She has a baby whose father is unconnected to the case and is now on the sex offenders register for 10 years and must pay £140 costs.

Hours before being whisked away in the middle of the night to a summer camp for troubled children, a teenage boy had sex with his best friends’ mother in a green SUV — while parked at a Los Gatos elementary school, the youth testified Wednesday.
The encounter at Daves Avenue Elementary School was the last of at least 30 to 40 times the middle-aged Los Gatos woman and 16-year-old boy had intercourse, the boy claimed in testimony that contradicted what he told police last year.
“Did you lie last year to detectives when you told them you only had sex with Sara Cole three or four times?” prosecutor Timothy S. Moore asked, as Cole’s trial on three felony counts of unlawful intercourse with a minor got under way Wednesday.
“Yes,” the youth instantly said in testimony that recounted a disturbing, drama-filled relationship with Cole. Now 17 and enrolled in a Montana boarding school — which has a curriculum that includes psychological counseling — the teen said he believed last year that telling the truth about the 3 1/2-month affair with the 47-year-old woman would “make me look bad and I wanted to save her (Cole).”
Cole made headlines — and benefited from an outpouring of community support — after a drunken driver nearly killed her in 2007.
Cole’s attorney, Michael W. Armstrong, pointed out inconsistencies Wednesday in the boy’s account, noting lies the teen told his parents and police, including not acknowledging his use of LSD and mushrooms. The boy also told detectives that Cole initiated the intercourse, but testified that “we looked at each other and it started to happen.” The Mercury News is not publishing the boy’s name because he is an alleged victim of sexual assault.
Cole has pleaded not guilty, insisting she only had “intimate relations,” not intercourse, with the boy. The mother of four sons is also charged with one misdemeanor count of molesting or annoying a child under 18. She may testify Thursday.
Judge Jerome E. Brock has excluded details of Cole’s accident on the grounds that they were irrelevant and could unduly evoke jurors’ sympathy.
During their relationship, which began 2 1/2 years after her accident, Cole and the teen exchanged 5,413 texts and 863 phone calls over seven months.
The teen’s parents first reported their suspicions to police after seeing a sexually graphic text message on their son’s phone. They discovered a series of disturbing texts after they had him taken to a wilderness camp for troubled children because he was getting poor grades and smoking marijuana.
Much to his surprise, the boy was jostled awake by camp counselors about 4 a.m. on July 15, 2010 — about eight hours after his alleged encounter with Cole in the elementary school parking lot — and flown to the Utah wilderness, where no cellphones or other electronic distractions were permitted.
The boy eventually reported the alleged sexual abuse to a therapist at the camp, who called his parents.
The boy, wearing a blue-plaid flannel shirt and jeans, told the rapt jury of seven women and five men that he and Cole often had sex in the kitchen or her bedroom while his best friend was in a nearby room sleeping or playing Xbox video games.
In the testimony, the boy described a relationship that was anything but desirable.
The teen said Cole supplied him with free food, cigarettes and marijuana — even driving him to pick up pot. Once, he said, she promised to wait for him outside his dealer’s house on Winchester Avenue, but left him stranded after discovering a text message on his cellphone from a girl he was dating, the youth testified.
The two appeared to battle constantly, judging from the text messages the prosecutor displayed for the jury. She once blocked his calls; he once damaged her back door after she locked him out because he stole her cigarettes, he testified.
Throughout the long afternoon, the boy remained poised, responding in a straightforward, mature manner even under gentle but persistent questioning by Armstrong.
But after stepping down from the witness box, he requested something of the judge that seemed to reflect his youth. Referring to a basket of treats clad in shiny gold paper that jurors had been passing around, the teen piped up, “Can I take a candy?” and grinned when the judge nodded his assent.
