Lorenz Mekuli, 17, raped the mum, 23, repeatedly while on a two-day ice binge
A teenage gang member who repeatedly raped a mother in front of her seven-year-old daughter made his victim perform one final humiliating act.
Lorenz Mekuli was on a two-day ice binge when he subjected the 23-year-old mother to a sickening attack.
But not content with raping her, Mekuli, 17, demanded his victim wipe down the windows to get rid of his fingerprints.
Mekuli had broken into the property through the window and presumably wanted to remove any evidence of his presence.
The teenager from Hamilton on New Zealand's North Island has been sentenced to an eight year stretch behind bars.
He appeared in Hamilton District Court last Friday where he faced charges for rape, threatening to kill, sexual violation, attempted kidnapping, burglary and assault on a child.
The 23-year-old victim told the NZ Herald she was "really disappointed" with the sentence as it's hard to live a normal life following the ordeal.
She said: "He almost killed me and he almost killed my daughter.
"I still can't believe that it happened in my own place. How can this happen in New Zealand?"
Mekuli, then 16, broke into his victim's home via a window which had been left open on the morning of April 7.
He stole cash and made his way into the bedroom where the victim was sleeping with her daughter.
He jumped onto the bed and strangled the mother and daughter despite their screams and resistance.
Details of the horrific and lengthy attack were revealed in court.
Mekuli pulled the woman into the hallway and forced her to remove her clothes.
He raped the woman three times, punched her in the face and ordered her to perform oral sex while her daughter was forced to watch.
He also performed oral sex on her, Stuff reported.
At the end of the horrific violation, the woman was punched in the face a second time and forced to wipe down the windowsills to remove Mekuli's fingerprints.
The victims managed to escape to a neighbour's house after the teenager demanded he be driven away from the crime scene.
Police were called and Mekuli was tracked down six days later.
The court heard the teenager had been smoking methamphetamine in the two days before the incident.
Judge Louis Bidois told the court the victim's life had been 'totally destroyed' by the ordeal.
Crown prosecutor Louella Dunn said the victim lost confidence and struggled to go about normal activities of life including sleeping, exercising and socialising.
Ms Dunn sought a minimum of 14 years in jail claiming the community needed to be protected.
She said: "There is a risk of re-offending. There is a risk to the public."
Defence counsel Sacha Nepe argued for a lower sentence as the teenager endured a tough childhood involving domestic violence and drug use.
Mekuli, who showed no remorse for his victim, was sentenced to eight years in jail as the judge allowed a 35% discount for a guilty plea and his youth.

A SCHOOLGIRL claims she was gang raped on board a luxury ship during a Christmas holiday with her family in the latest case to rock the cruise industry.
The 15-year-old says she was targeted on Royal Caribbean’s popular Oasis of the Seas ship after boarding the boat on Boxing Day.
The shocking sex assault allegation is now being used to highlight the hidden horrors of cruise holidays.
According to a lawsuit filed in Florida, the teen became separated from her family and was plied with alcohol by a group of around 12 adult male passengers in the lounge.
She became “obviously drunk, disoriented and unstable” and the men then led her to a cabin where they “brutally assaulted and gang raped her”.
The girl - identified only as K.T. - claims multiple cruise staff witnessed her becoming drunk during the 2015 incident, but “did nothing to protect or help her”.
They failed to step in and stop the men from getting her intoxicated or luring her away, reports Kate Schneider for news.com.
The lawsuit was first filed in December 2016 but was dismissed for failing to state a claim, with Royal Caribbean arguing it was unforeseeable to the staff that a guest could be raped under the circumstances described.
She then appealed, and the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeal published an opinion last week reversing the decision and reinstating her negligence suit.
The court found K.T. had indeed sufficiently alleged the cruise company had breached its “duty of care” to the woman.
The complaint alleges that “as a direct and proximate result” of Royal Caribbean’s negligence and failures, including to warn of the increased risk of sex attacks on-board, K.T. was “directly and proximately caused to be sexually assaulted and/or physically battered and/or gang raped”.
Cruise passengers are also at higher risk of crime and injury on-board due to the “copious quantities” of alcohol on-board, according to the lawsuit, but little is done to protect them.
The appellate court found that: “The scope of Royal Caribbean’s duty to protect its passengers is informed, if not defined, by its knowledge of the dangers they face on-board."
Chief Judge Ed Carnes stated: “Publicly available data reinforces the allegations in the complaint that Royal Caribbean knew or should have known about the danger of sexual assault aboard its cruise ships."
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson told news.com.au that while they are unable to comment on pending litigation, “we do take this allegation very seriously”.
“The safety and security of our guests is our top priority,” the spokesperson said.
Unfortunately, K.T.’s case is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to sexual assault at sea.
According to the website Cruise Law News , run by Jim Walker from Walker & O’Neill maritime lawyers, there have been hundreds of sex attacks reported on cruise ships in the last few years.
“A cruise ship is like a floating city of 10,000 people with no police,” Philip Gerson, a lawyer who testified before US Congress on behalf of a teen who was raped by two men in 2014.

There have been several shocking sexual assault cases that have made it before the courts in recent years.
One occurred just eight days prior to K.T.’s alleged attack when an 11-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on-board the Disney Magic ship.
A crew member later confessed and was sentenced to two years in jail.
And the following year another gang rape was reported, this time on-board the Carnival Breeze.
It involved another 15-year-old girl who was attacked by five men and dragged down a hallway into a room where she was stripped and violently raped.
A lawsuit accused the cruise line of negligence and failing to provide a safe environment for guests.
Another horrific and high-profile rape case that highlighted issues with security on cruise ships was that of a woman who was “beaten, strangled and raped” by a crew member.
Ketut Pujayasa was sentenced to 30 years jail for the vicious assault, where he used a master key to enter the woman’s cabin and hide on her balcony, awaiting her return.
The 31-year-old woman was beaten with various objects inside the room and then was almost thrown overboard, but was able to hold onto the railing and escape.

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (PIX11) – Shocking cell phone footage of the alleged gang rape of a teen in Panama City Beach Florida shows crowds of spring break revelers steps from the victim, but none of them intervening. The video, found during the investigation of a related crime, has already led to two arrests , and a local sheriff is vowing more.
“It’s probably one of the most disgusting, sickening things I’ve seen on a Panama City beach,” said Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen. “This is not the first video we’ve recovered, it’s not the second video, it’s not the third video (and) there’s a number of videos with things similar to this. I can only imagine how many we haven’t recovered.”
Police have released a small portion of the video, which is so graphic it had to be blurred. The footage shows the 19-year-old woman, apparently incapacitated, in a chair on the beach behind the Spinnaker Beach Club, being sexually assaulted by one man after another in broad daylight, according to police. As the attacks occur, the suspects can be heard joking about how “she isn’t going to know,” as they ignore her feeble attempts to push them off her, according to the Panama City News Herald. McKeithen likened the attack to “wild animals preying on a carcass laying in the woods.”
Police tracked down the victim, but she told detectives she didn’t remember anything the next day, and thinks she may have been drugged. “She knows something happened, but she doesn’t know what happened,” McKeithen said.
Police found the video on a witness’ phone while investigating a shooting in Troy, Alabama, and turned it over to Panama City investigators. Two Troy University students accused of assaulting the teen, 23-year-old Ryan Austin Calhoun, of Mobile, Ala., and 22-year-old Delonte Martistee, of Bainbridge, Ga., now face charges of sexual battery by multiple perpetrators.
On Saturday, Calhoun posted $50,000 bond and was released from Bay County Jail, where Martistee, as of Monday, was still being held . Martistee is a senior and track star for Troy University. Both men have been temporarily suspended from academic and athletic activities, according to school officials.
“Within ten feet of where this is happening there are hundreds of people standing there watching, looking, seeing, hearing what’s going on and yet our culture and our society and our young people have got to the point where obviously it’s acceptable somewhere, but it’s not acceptable in Bay County,” McKeithen said.
Panama City Beach has long been a destination for spring break revelers, but authorities are fed up with the spike in criminal activity that comes from hosting the hordes of party-goers. One official at the Bay County Sheriff’s Office compared spring break to a cancerous “tumor” that can spread to the rest of the body, affecting residents and local businesses.
Sheriff McKeithen posted on his Facebook page that the investigation continues, and that additional arrests are expected.
