Tamzin Merchant was originally set to play the role of Daenerys Targaryen in the long-running fantasy saga Game of Thrones. But then everything turned out differently.
In an interview with the American trade magazine “Entertainment Weekly”, she stated: “The shooting of the (“Game of Thrones”-) Pilot was a really good lesson. A confirmation of listening to and following your own instincts”.
She quickly realized that she couldn’t do anything with the erotic passages of the saga. During the contract process they dropped out. “I was initially persuaded by influential people to take part again. But then I found myself naked and scared in Morocco: riding a horse that was obviously a lot more excited to be there than I was,” she said with British irony.
“It was a lesson that I shouldn’t try to get excited just because other people tell me to get excited when my gut tells me a story isn’t something I’d like to tell,” she continued 36-year-old today.
“I have no training as an actress, only my instincts. And what excites and drives me is a compelling story and character. For me ‘Game of Thrones’ was never like that! I think it’s thanks to Emilia Clarke that this role became iconic – she was obviously excited to tell this story and it was epic and outstanding. But for me it was not in my heart to tell them.”
The aforementioned UK colleague Clarke made her international breakthrough with the character of Daenerys Targaryen.

She has returned to BBC soap EastEnders following a 16 year break away from the show.
And making a comeback to the glitz and glamour of the TV world, Tamzin Outhwaite put on a dazzling display, as she slipped into a stunning pillar-box red gown to grace the red carpet at the National Television Awards on Tuesday night.
Stepping out for the calendar highlight, held at London 's O2 Arena, the actress, 47, was seen beaming from ear-to-ear - seeming to put on a brave face after reports surfaced claiming she has become the latest soap stat to fall victim to a 'nude photo leak'.

Despite the claims, Tamzin made sure not to let the drama get to her, as she made a return to the spotlight by joining her EastEnders co-stars and a plethora of celebrities for the star-studded affair in the capital.
The blonde beauty was dressed to impress in a striking pillar-box Kelsey Rose gown that came complete with a drooping back and plunging neckline that teased a look at her bust.
Its fitted bodice made sure to accentuate her slender frame, before her frock then skimmed over her curves and billowed out around her legs in a gathered style.
She wore her blonde tresses in vintage curls that was pinned to one side of her bonce, with just a few tendrils left loose to frame her face.

Her appearance comes after the actress was targeted for nude photos that later surfaced online. According to The Sun , the images leaked had been of Tamzin posing topless backstage and on the beach.
A source told the paper: 'This is becoming an increasingly big problem for TV stars. It has already hit several actresses and Tamzin is the latest to suffer.'
Soap stars Kym Marsh, Jennifer Metcalfe and Faye Brookes have all found themselves in similar circumstances.

Brushing off the scandal, Tamzin put on a defiant display at the NTAs and has been enjoying a return to the small screen, as her character Mel Owen has made a comeback to Walford.
Viewers saw her leave Albert Square 15 years ago while pregnant following her husband Steve Owen's (played by Martin Kemp) tragic car accident, after learning of his betrayals - including his affair with Sam Mitchell and money laundering.
Speaking of her character's return, Tamzin has teased that Mel will be much 'darker' this time round. She said: 'She's damaged, much more damaged and darker.'
She also teased the idea of a return for her believed to be dead husband Steve - claiming that he could have escaped the car crash that killed him.
Tamzin will return as Mel and will be joined by her character's son Hunter, played by Charlie Winter, who is now a teenager.
It's also believed that Mel's arrival will be linked to Ben Mitchell's exit from EastEnders. She is set to rumble Ben, after it was revealed he is in possession of the money and jewellery stolen in the New Year's Day heist.
It has been strongly implied that Mel was sent back to Albert Square by Ciara Maguire, whose money was stolen in the disastrous heist which saw Mick Carter suffer a nasty gunshot to the shoulder.
Returning host Dermot O'Leary fronted the National Television Awards that were broadcast live on ITV from London's O2 Arena.
Former Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo replaced Scarlett Moffatt as backstage host for 2018, after stealing her crown as queen of the jungle on I'm A Celebrity 2017.
TV double act Ant & Dec were the superstars of the night, sweeping the board with three gongs. They took home the TV Presenter prize for a record-breaking 17th time, beating the likes of their good friends Holly Willoughby, Phillip Schofield and Bradley Walsh.
The presenters enjoyed another successful win for I'm A Celebrity, that was honoured with the Challenge Show award, and Ant and Dec found themselves the winners of the first Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award with their show Saturday Night Takeaway.

Actress Tamzin Merchant was originally cast as Daenerys in "Game of Thrones."
But after the first, disastrous pilot was filmed, she was replaced with Emilia Clarke.
In a new interview , Merchant says that "Game of Thrones" was a story she wasn't excited to tell.
The original "Game of Thrones" pilot has never been seen by the public and to this day fans still have many questions about what went wrong with HBO's first attempt . Among those mysteries was the reason why Tamzin Merchant was replaced with Emilia Clarke for the now-iconic role of Daenerys Targaryen.
After a decade of silence on the matter, Merchant has revealed a piece of the puzzle in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly's James Hibberd .
"I didn't have any training as an actor. I only have my instincts," Merchant said. "And what excites me and what drives me is a compelling story and a compelling character. So for me, 'Game of Thrones' was never that."
Though Merchant doesn't specify whether she was ultimately the one who asked to be removed from the show, or if that was a decision from HBO's creative team, the actress says she did try to "back out" of the contract before she filmed any scenes.
"I tried to back out of that situation and, during the contract process, I did back out," Merchant said. "I was talked back into it by some persuasive people. Then I found myself naked and afraid in Morocco and riding a horse that was clearly much more excited to be there than I was."
The "excited" horse she's referring to was the steed Daenerys is gifted by her husband, Khal Drogo, on their wedding night. As revealed in Hibberd's oral history of "Game of Thrones," the horse had a visible erection during the filming of the pivotal sexual assault scene.
Merchant expressed no regrets over her departure from the role, even given how popular the show became in its eight-year run.
"I think it's a testament to Emilia Clarke for making that role iconic - she was obviously excited to tell that story, and she was epic and excellent," Merchant told EW. "But for me, it wasn't in my heart to tell it."
Merchant isn't the only person who left "Game of Thrones" before the pilot was refilmed and made into the episode fans have now come to know and love. For the first version of the pilot, Benioff and Weiss had hired director Tom McCarthy.
McCarthy said he had "very little" impact on the look and feel of the pilot, and by the time Benioff and Weiss realized they needed to reshoot the bulk of it, McCarthy was busy with another project and unable to return for another run.
"I couldn't do it. And I just didn't feel connected to it," McCarthy said in a 2011 interview with AV Club. "It wasn't a big decision. It felt right."
Timothy Van Patten took over for reshoots of the pilot and also directed the second episode of the debut season.
Then actress Michelle Fairley was recast into the role of Catelyn Stark. She took over for Jennifer Ehle, who had decided to leave the project after reconsidering the lengthy time commitment.
