The one thing which can possibly concern you is that your child isn’t getting enough meaningful, fulfilling and rewarding human interactions, which may be one of the reasons she speaks to herself, to compensate. Otherwise, please note that as others have said, speaking to oneself is rarely a negative sign.
If you’d like to ensure that your child gets enough quality human interactions, you can approach the subject delicately and without infringing on your child’s personal space, by asking simple questions such as, does she have friends at school, is she getting along with people, is anyone giving her any troubles. If she does have friends, does she feel that they are good friends, then ask if she feels comfortable telling people personal things, does she feel comfortable enough to speak to t
I’m 23 and I still talk to myself. I’m not schizophrenic or anything, it’s just how I process my thoughts when I’m alone. Plus, I’m always making up stories in my head, so I’m always either describing scenes to myself, or acting out dialogue just to hear out the words sound. However, it’s common courtesy to keep my thoughts as private as I can, so I try to keep my mouth shut, or at least be quiet, when I’m out in public. As long as your daughter is talking to herself when she’s alone in a private spot, I see no reason for concern. Otherwise, explain to her kindly that it’s more polite to be discreet about vocalizing her private thoughts in public. I doubt you’ll have to.
Absolutely not. Talking to oneself can be the expression of two different activities :
Talking to oneself is more common in neurodivergent people, but i’m pretty sure this is not exclusive to them. The fact that people with ASD/ADHD/… tend to talk with themselves probably more than others has likely something to do with the representation of insanity we have behind the ac
I am 15 and I still talk to myself. I don’t really see it as being an issue. And it does help me in a way. I have had problems talking to people my whole life. And I still do. I have never been able to hold a conversation without making it awkward or feeling awkward. And I don’t tend to be able to hold eye contact for long without feeling uncomfortable. But talking to myself is a lot different. Like how an outgoing person would feel talking to a stranger or a friend. I am not outgoing so I don’t know if that is accurate or not. But yeah.
Actually it is said by Psychologist that talking to ones self is a sign of Higher Intelligence, so Albert Einstein, Tesla, and various Scientist and Dr.’s talk to themselves on a daily basis. So no you should not be concerned in a bad way. They will most likely grow up to be very successful. Good luck to you and your child.
