This book is not "another self-help book". If you need encouragement and simple yet innovative ways to take better care of "you" in all the areas in your life, like most of us Moms do, then you'll enjoy this book. It's written in small enough bites that you can easily read a very short chapter and the "rest stops," that have practical application, in 10 minutes or less--perfect for Mom's. The book is about a serious subject--taking care of yourself so you can continue to have energy over the long haul to take care of your family-- but it is handled with a light and funny tone. There are 10-20 suggestions for each area of encouragement--which offers "something for everyone." You WILL NOT feel guilty about what you're not doing! Mrs. Welchel does a great job explaining How and Why the practical ideas are not meant to be another chore on our never-ending list of things to "accomplish." She compares the ideas in the "rest stops" to a picnic with a lot of variety to choose from, but of course you wouldn't eat 3 different kinds of sandwiches, 4 bags of chips, one of every kind of vegetable and fruit and finish it off with cookies, cake, pie and brownies--soooo, neither would you try to "eat everything" at every "rest stop" and them make yourself feel guilty for not doing so. Truly ENJOY being the wonderful Mom you already are!
Christian Mom Carreer Woman with a Sense of Humor - for many of us those words (Christian, Mom, Carreer and Humor) might seem like one massive oxymoron but Lisa Welchel proves they are not! Filled with God-given wisdom and humor (yes, Ladies, God meant us to laugh and smile)this books is a real gift to all of trying to put our relationship with God, our families and our work in the right order priority-wise while not forgetting that we must take care of ourselves, too. If you feel lost in your multiple roles or just want a refreshing take on walking with Christ through all those roles and seasons in life - or if you know a woman who might, then buy this book. I plan on making it a baby shower gift for years to come!!!! What a terrific book - I highly reccomend it to women of all faiths!
I am not a mom, but I am an elementary teacher, so this book spoke to me on many levels. Any woman who juggles family and other responsibilities will benefit from this practical book. Lisa's Christian faith only adds to the "advice" she presents her readers. This book made me laugh, tear up, and cross reference with the Bible. Lisa Whelchel has a gift for writing. It is her ministry and she does it beautifully. This book would be a great gift for any Christian mom or woman who takes care of everyone but herself.
This book is full of great tips for busy moms....we all go through a season when our children are young where we seem to need to build the spiritual into the ordinary...thank you!
Wow! Since becoming a mom, I've had less time to read, but this was a quick read that proved inspiring. With tons of ideas on all aspects of your life, Lisa encourages you to pick one. I will definitely be reading and rereading this. My husband has liked the changes that I have implemented.
Not only is a quick read, it has some great ideas for how to help any Mom with the struggles that she faces every day. I really enjoyed it and look forward to trying ideas in her "rest stops". One note though it is very spiritual, so if that isn't your thing you may not like it as much.
Feeling stressed out? Feeling guilty for wanting to take care of yourself? Get this book...mommies need to take care of themselves so they can take care of their families!!!!! Thanks Lisa for making me feel "normal" and for sharing your personal experiences!!!!!

Filled with practical advice and time-saving tips, you'll feel refreshed, energized, and ready to pour the true you into the ones you love!

Moms get so busy with the ?doing? and the ?giving? for their families that they never seem to have enough time to ?rest? and ?receive.? So many moms have bought into the world-view that they can ?have it all? and then believe the self-talk that ?if I don?t do it, it won?t get done!? Isn?t it ironic that so many mothers are running on empty? Lisa Whelchel delivers a book full of practical tips and advice for mothers on how to find lost time in their day to nourish body, soul and spirit.
