Tachibana accepts that she cannot be liked by Naoto.
Tachibana fell in love with Naoto at first sight, viewing him as her ideal man because of his appearance, demeanor, status, and wealth. She self-proclaims him as the love of her life and the number one person of all the people she has met, and claims that if someone perfect like Naoto acknowledged her, she would become perfect as well. Ever since she joined the Astronomy Club, she has worked hard to gain his affection and be with him. They develop a casual friendship and Tachibana treats him with kindness and affection. Even after realizing that Naoto is love with Mikoto Kujou , she doesn’t back off, and just begins pursuing Naoto more seriously and tries to separate the two, since she believes that Naoto deserves better than Mikoto. However, Naoto brushes off all of her advances to maintain their friendship, and even rejects her indirect confession once, which bothers her.
When Kei Souma points out that her feelings towards Naoto are shallow and that he would never reciprocate her feelings as long as she only liked him for his wealth and looks, she is annoyed, but takes his words into consideration. She does confess a second time, but is gently turned again. Naoto eases Tachibana’s doubts by telling her that he admires Mikoto for being such an accepting person and that he loves her in spite of her shortcomings. Tachibana is touched by this notion, and wishes to be loved by someone the same way Naoto loves Mikoto despite her flaws. After getting rejected, Tachibana quits pursuing Naoto, as she has recognized that someone like her cannot be liked by him.
Momoka eventually moves on and they do eventually develop a normal yet close friendship. Naoto admires her hardworking personality and determination since it reminds him of himself, and Tachibana, although she continues having some lingering feelings for him, admits that she admires him and would rather want to be like him rather than liking him. And after seeing how accepting and uplifting both Mikoto and Naoto are, and how they responded similarly to how they would react to if she was “hypothetically” fat once, Tachibana’s doubts about the two not being similar and not suiting each other disappears, and she has since become more accepting and supportive of their relationship.

Tachibana initially views Mikoto as a close friend and treats her with kindness, gratitude, and respect. However, after realizing that she is the one who Naoto has feelings for, Tachibana is overcome with envy since she isn’t able to understand why Naoto would prefer a girl like Mikoto over herself. Although Tachibana continuing treating her kindly, she constantly disregards her feelings, tries to keep her away from Naoto, and is greatly annoyed by her denseness and her sympathizing personality in every situation. On multiple occasions, Tachibana has looked down on Mikoto because she is—as Tachibana herself claims—“plain, not pretty, boring, and flawed”.
Their dynamic changes when Mikoto accidentally sees a picture of Tachibana when she used to be fat. Tachibana completely drops her façade and expresses great shame over the fact that she showed her biggest secret to her rival. When Tachibana later confronts Mikoto about said matter, however, she says that she would never laugh at her, that there’s nothing wrong with being fat, and that she’s amazing for working hard and becoming cute. When Tachibana returns to the club and finds out that Mikoto had not told anyone about her secret, she is touched but also frustrated; feeling a sense of loss towards her rival.
After getting rejected Naoto, Tachibana starts to accept Mikoto more. However, because Tachibana enjoys ‘bullying’ Mikoto, continues viewing her as her rival, and still somewhat ‘dislikes’ her, she often makes Mikoto anxious by discouraging and messing with her. Despite that, she is the one who helps her realize her feelings for Naoto and stays by her side throughout her entire love epiphany, and she also helps her pick out an outfit for her date with Naoto. Despite her occasional feelings of envy, superiority, and annoyance regarding Mikoto, they do become better friends and form a small friend-group along with Shiori Fujimoto , and are often seen spending time with each other. Their relationship seems to have grown stronger throughout the years, as Tachibana has left her resentment behind by the time of Mikoto’s wedding with Naoto, where she is only seen to be very emotional and happy for her.

Tachibana and Souma initially had a good friendship as the only freshmen in the club. However, their views of each other changes when they notice their “real” personalities and that they’re both involved in the same love triangle. Tachibana uses Souma’s feelings towards Mikoto, both against him and to her own advantage, so Souma can help her in her plans and so she can have Naoto to herself, and has even offered to help him out. However, Souma does not want to get involved, neither with her or the love triangle. This quickly makes them dislike each other; Tachibana dislikes his ‘big ego’, how he’s uncooperative and unkind towards her, and Souma dislikes her ‘selfishness’ and ‘greediness’. They also become very hostile and somewhat violent whenever they’re around each other.
Most of all, their different ways of dealing with their respective crushes is what causes the rift in their relationship; Souma calls out Tachibana for being shallow and tells her that Naoto will never reciprocate her feelings as long as she only likes him for his wealth, status, and looks. Tachibana, in return calls Souma out for his passiveness, cowardice, and his fear of getting hurt, and claims that she is different from him in that regard. Although she is greatly annoyed by these remarks, Tachibana does take his words into consideration and realizes that comes to the realization that could not be liked by Naoto. Likewise, Souma also takes Tachibana’s words into consideration and even decides to confess to Mikoto.
As time goes on, they do become “friends”, as both of them hid their real personalities behind a façade at some point, as well as the fact that they fell in love with people who they had no chance to begin with. According to Fujimoto, they are two different sides of the same coin in the way that both of them are very similar is some aspects of their personality. This has allowed a great deal of empathy, security, and understanding to develop between them, as they are able to read each other pretty well and confide their problems and innermost feelings to each other. And exactly because Souma is one of the first people to “accept” her real personality and since he always hears and helps her out whether he wants it not, Tachibana has genuinely started to consider Souma as a friend and her “partner-in-rejection”. After they got rejected, she even offers to introduce to him to one of her cute female friends.

Although they continue to have mixed feelings towards each other, they have grown closer throughout the years. Even though they constantly complain about each other and doesn’t get along as always, they are still the only ones they can talk about their personal feelings to. They begin to spend more time with each other and have also grown to learn and understand more about the other more than they would like to admit. Souma is well-aware of Tachibana’s bad drinking habit as well as her need to get married, and Tachibana states that Souma calls her every time he breaks up with a girl while crying. Although this suggests a close bond between the two, they dislike being seen as a couple and refuses the idea of them dating.

She was fat in elementary and middle school, but after she got rejected by her crush in middle school after he called her "fatty," Tachibana swore there to become beautiful and skinny. Since then, she has actually had a very aggressive personality underneath her sweet personality. She dislikes Kujou since Yanagi likes her and not herself, and usually annoys Souma to spy on Kujou and Yanagi for her and argues with him quite a lot.
In the end, she does get rejected by Yanagi, but is surprisingly the one who helps Kujou realize her feelings for Yanagi. However, she still considers Kujou her rival and states she won't lose against her.
